North Carolina Couple Charged With Murder in Death of Son Tied to Tree Overnight
RALEIGH, N.C. — A couple accused of tying their 13-year-old son to a tree for two nights to punish him for disobedience has been charged with murder in his death, authorities said Friday.
Brice Brian McMillan, 41, of Macclesfield, told a deputy that the child was being disobedient and was forced to sleep outside Tuesday while tied to a tree, the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office said. The teenager was released Wednesday morning but again tied up that night for bad behavior, authorities said.
The boy was left tied to the tree until the following afternoon when his stepmother found him unresponsive, Sheriff James Knight said in a statement.
Dwight Jefferson, an emergency responder with Pinetops Rescue Squad who was first on the scene, said he did not know the cause of the child's death.
"What we found was a 13-year-old laying on the ground — CPR being done by his father," Jefferson said. "Then we took over."
Knight said the boy was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It wasn't immediately clear what the couple used to allegedly tie up the boy.

I think the punishment suggests itself ... :censored:

Would it have something to do with a large tree and a couple of rolls of barbed wire?

Bad news. If they get the death penalty, all it will be is a needle. I'd sort of would like to see them go through a slow hanging (not the instant one where the neck breaks).

I am confused as to how the boy died. It wasn't cold, he wasn't eaten by wolves, he wasn't beaten to death. The whole thing is strange. If this was the first instance of abuse I wonder if the parents thought it was a good idea but turned out to be deadly. I am all for shooting child abusers on site, I just think this story is missing a lot of details.

You and I so often think alike. You are very smart for a girl! :innocent:

Add me to the group. I can't see how this could happen the way the story is written.

I say bury them alive.

I'm thinking that the beating was what killed him. They didn't find him tied up when they rescued him, the father was doing CPR. This is just too sketchy. We need Dr. G!

I wonder if possibly the ropes were too tight and they cut off his oxygen supply?

We've had a heat wave here in NC for the past few days. It was almost a hundred degrees everyday this week. The kid could have gotten heat stroke. And I do wonder if the way he was tied up couldn't have hurt his breathing. Plus, we have poisonous critters around that can bite. I'd say it was the heat and the way he was tied up that killed him. :bawl:

Whats really weird is that I've joked to my wife repeatedly over the last couple of years, about how I would discipline are children by tying them to a tree.
