Oh my.

Just a reminder to the cooking and baking primitives that franksolich is still watching their seditious goings-on.

Broccoli salad: broccoli, bacon, almonds, peas, red onions, raisons. Am I missing anything?

Skip the almonds, peas, onion and raisons--whatever those are--and you got a winner.

And then Ugly butts in right away:

1. Make sure you blanch the peas and broccoli to fix that bright green color and eliminate any bitterness (especially in the broccoli).

2. Thanks. I will do that for sure. Do you have to blanch the peas if they are frozen? Can you just let them thaw?

3. Frozen veg are usually blanched before freezing

Again, it's to set that vibrant green color.

5. My recipe adds grapes and celery

To the broccoli, bacon, raisins and sunflower seeds (or almonds). A simple mayo-vinegar-sugar dressing. No peas. I will take the suggestion of blanching the broccoli as the raw stuff can be bitter.

Totally love the crunchy-chewy-sweet-salty blend of this stuff plus it's (kinda) healthy!

Grandma Judy's posting on the internet behind the backs of her guardians again.

She knows her children and grandchildren don't like seeing her make a laughingstock of herself.

7. I love this salad too

The only problem with its popularity is taking a bowl of it to a potluck and seeing two or three other bowls there too!

6. The recipe I use calls for cheddar cheese cubes

^^^that's good, too.

Broccoli salad?  F'n seriously?

There are two ways to eat broccoli--raw dipped in ranch dressing, or cooked with a cheese sauce.  Period.

There is a Ralph's supermarket nearby that has a huge deli; they put bacon, cashews and mandarin orange slices in their broccoli salad and bind it all together with mayonnaise or something similar.  It sounds kind of gross but it is actually really good.

The salad sounds disgusting, I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole.  Plus, it's got peas in it <shudder>.  The only way I like broccoli is in a soup, with cheese.

Someone here posted a link once to a really funny site, something about "**** You, Broccoli."

Does Guinness & Cheese Soup with broccoli and bacon count as "cooked with a cheese sauce"?

On nom nom.

The local Acme makes a really good broccoli salad -- although it's more a slaw than a salad.  BUT if ANYONE tries to sneak in so much as ONE pea, then they are my lifelong mortal enemy!

Guiness and bacon.  I guess I could live with that.

Broccoli, I can take it or leave it.

But broccoli salad with lots of bacon bits is great.

No broccoli salad (or any other dish) should EVER include peas.

Can't eat it. They used to make "salad" when the produce was too rotten to convince people to eat it on the ship. Haven't touched it since.

I don't care how you tart it up, raw broccoli tastes like lawn clippings.

Oh now, what's wrong with all you people?

Around here, broccoli grows wild--I don't garden, and these spring from what the ancient woman used to grow here many years and decades and eons ago--and when it's all over the place, I have femmes come over to make their delicacies out of it.

It's not as good as sour cream, but it's still pretty good.
