The cloakrooms serve as a place for members to socialize, eat, and take naps without leaving the building. These rooms are closed to all except for Senators and Representatives, and a few of their trusted staffers, and even have their own phone numbers.

Nunes meant by â€œtappedâ€ was that the DOJ seized the phone records, as has been widely reported. There was a little confusion between him and the host during the conversation: He did not mean to refer to phone records of the cloakroom itself, but of the Capitol. This refers to the phone records from the APâ€™s desk in the press gallery, which the DOJ admitted to looking at. He was explaining that if those phone records were seized, they would reveal a lot of conversations between the press and members of Congress, since reporters often speak to Members from the press gallery phones. The notion of the DOJ looking at phone records from the Capitol of conversations between Members of Congress and reporters is something that concerns Rep. Nunes, bringing up issues related to the separation of powers.

Although his comments were a bit unclear, he clarified soon after in the interview:

DN: So when they went after the AP reporters, right? Went after all of their phone records, they went after the phone records, including right up here in the House Gallery, right up from where Iâ€™m sitting right now. So you have a real separation of powers issue that did this really rise to the level that you would have to get phone records that would, that would most likely include members of Congress, because as you knowâ€¦

Then (I think) they gave the all go. Turns out, according to the story, the WH wanted them to sit on it one more day so Obama could announce it as something to bolster him personally.

Personally, I think the press is all ga ga over these stories so they won't have to pretend to care about Benghazi while twisting themselves in knots trying to protect their precious boy king. While anyone with half a brain and any kind of heart knows Benghazi is more important for many, many reasons, using the IRS story might not be the best cover. Almost everyone in the country, even low information voters (hate continually writing this out but my granddaughter's name is LIV) hate and/or fear the IRS. Even people who get all their money back see them as money grubbing pigs. Their paychecks show them a different story every time they get paid. People have gotten self centered...this hits at the center of their SELF.

The same reason most people are just now hearing about Benghazi, the IRS intimidation and of course the AP going on the defensive.....The main stream media.

One reason Romney didn't get elected was because the media never covered him in a positive light. Or they never covered him at all.

Well, Romney didn't do himself any favors either. He could have had harder hitting ads. He could have emphasized Benghazi. He could have been smart enough to understand his advisers were feeding him a bunch of bullshit & realized that for years and years and years the left has been "ridin' dirty" while the Republicans continue to lose because they're such weaklings. And that if that theory held water all those offended people would have run to the right a looooooong time ago. But they've allowed themselves to be brainwashed my the media & the left. It's a good strategy on their part. No one wants a president who appears to be weak during the campaign. If the R's ever figure this out it will be a cold day in hell before the left ever wins the WH again.

Can't blame an unfriendly press. Romney knew up front the MSM would not give him a fair shake, so he was 100% responsible for getting his own message out. He had lots of money and lots of opportunity to do it.

He could have bought 30 minute blocks of time on every network (even MSNBC), and purchased full-page ads in the Sunday paper of every city with more than 250,000 people, every week from the Republican Convention until November. Hell, for what he spent, he could have delivered a ham to every household in America, with a little card that said "Obamacare? No, RomneyHam!"

Because he had the money and the opportunity, I believe he made the sales pitch he wanted:

"Obama wants to drive America over a cliff at 100 miles an hour. Vote for me and we'll drive off that cliff at 75 mph. Yee-haw!"

He needed a Reaganesque landslide to fight the inevitable cries of "stolen election! no mandate!"

Since he went into the election knowing that, there's no such thing as fighting too hard.

I think many here are really overlooking how debase, unethical, and flat out stupid the American populace has become. Ie there are more of 'them'(LIV) then there are of 'us'. You are not going to win again unless you infiltrate the influencing areas again the way the socialists have obviously and successfully done. And that kind of change is going to take the same 50 years it took them.
