My brother works for a government agency, and he periodically checks the open position notices for a desk job as he is getting up in years. While he never actively looked for an IRS position, his searches always returned the openings.
Today he checked for the first time since Friday. On Friday, there had been 22 openings for the IRS in southern California, Arizona, and Las Vegas. Today, there were none. Zero. Nada. Keep in mind, there were always 10-30 or so positions open since my brother had been checking for the past three or four years. So he did a search specifically on IRS jobs in the United States as a whole.
Exactly 8 positions available. Three, ironically, in Cincinnati, but the rest at different places around the country.
Hopefully, this will be a trend. The ball is now SOLIDLY in the court of the congressional RINO's, particularly John Boehner and Mitch McConnell. But for now, the IRS is on the defense, hopefully, they will be tied in with the administration.

That sounds suspicious.

Doesn't everything sound suspicious nowadays? You don't know what the hell is going on with this government. I have zero trust in any of them. They may be actively trying to harm you.

Hmm. I just did the same search. Available to all applicants = 53 hits, available to fed only plus the latter=243 hits. That was US wide. Maybe your brother is putting other saved specifics in that define his search much more narrowly.

Well, there are now two jobs in Vegas, but phoenix and southern calif are still blank. They may just be shutting it down for inter-department transfers, which is what the job search website is specifically used for.

Last night I heard one of the congress critters say they were going to defund the IRS for putting in the new IRS agents to handle Obamacare. That was supposed to be for 1900 jobs.
