"The government would not say why it sought the records."
Last edited Mon May 13, 2013, 07:18 PM USA/ET - Edit history (6)
In all, the government seized those records for more than 20 separate telephone lines assigned to AP and its journalists in April and May of 2012. The exact number of journalists who used the phone lines during that period is unknown but more than 100 journalists work in the offices whose phone records were targeted on a wide array of stories about government and other matters.

The government would not say why it sought the records.

The letter notifying AP that its phone records had been obtained though subpoenas was sent Friday by Ronald Machen, the U.S. attorney in Washington.

Leaks can be dangerous.
National security is important.
The DoJ sent notice of the subpoena to the AP on Friday; the surveillance took place a year ago, and cast a very, very broad net.
If you don't have a problem with this, you are out of your ****ing mind.

74. Definitely time for Holder to go. A few years ago would have been better still.

I am with you on this one.
All I see is the AP colluding with their pro-Corporate world domination propaganda.
Guess somebody's records got seized who mattered at AP. Nice to see them get bit by all their colluding.
I am only surprised so many here still have the idea we have in any way a free press. It's frickin laughable to me. You have at best, 6 big corporations owning all the media. They report what helps their interests.

Benghazi and the IRS are a lot of nothing. But, this one stinks and stinks bad. I hope Holder is finally canned for it.

More proof of what weak willed, ignorant, and yes stupid people (term used very loosely) the DUchebags are. Useful idiots does not go near far enough.

In your honest opinion, do you think the White House is involved in any of these charges? Did they know anything about what was going on with the IRS, an independent agency, but is under the purview of the Treasury Dept? How much did they know about the information that was subpoenaed from the AP and their reporters? Was Benghazi just a made-up conspiracy of the Republicans just to try and get their supporters fired up for the next election or was there more to it?
What is your opinion? Is the White House clear on all charges?
Do you want to know the truth or would you prefer not to know?

1. I don't know but
it doesn't look good in any case. It looks terrible, to be honest. America shouldn't be acting like North Korea or an old style Soviet police state when it comes to freedom of the press.

3. How many times can they say they knew nothing
about ANY of these things without looking like complete liars or total buffoons?
Who is running all of these departments? Low level employees? Sheesh.
It's getting really bad. Cha and other BOGers are all over general discussion trying to fight the multiple fires.
Poor retarded Cha. When she writes about Obama, she puts beating heart and glittery icons all around his name. It's like she's writing Mrs. Cha Obama in neon sparkle ink on the cover of her school books.
Do you write books ?
That is an excellent description. :-)

It's mind boggling and frightening to imagine that the president is no more informed about issues of national security than the rest of us who watch the nightly news or read our daily paper

4. It's all a distraction created by the GOP and the media IMO
Where was the media when Bush took the US to war under false pretenses which cost thousands of lives and trillions of dollars? Where were they when Bush crashed the economy?
