From www.whitehouse.gov:
Unless you are one of the first Americans, unless you are a Native American, you came from someplace else. That’s why we’ve always defined ourselves as a nation of immigrants. And we’ve always been better off for it."
—President Obama
Share your own story to help remind Washington that we need an immigration system that lives up to our heritage as a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants. (http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/immigration/stories)
My story:
I was born in this country. I didn't "come from somewhere else."
My father was born in this country. He didn't "come from somewhere else."
My mother was born in this country. She didn't "come from somewhere else."
My paternal grandfather and grandmother were born in this country. They didn't "come from somewhere else."
My maternal grandfather and grandmother were born in this country. They didn't "come from somewhere else."
My great-grandparents were born in this country. They didn't "come from somewhere else."
My great-great-grandparents were born in this country. They didn't "come from somewhere else." With rifle, Bible, and plow, they tamed a frontier.
I am an American Citizen, and a real Native American. This is my country.
-
Well, unfortunately, for me, I cannot say the same..
-
Hey Obama. Native Americans is a misnomer. Calling them First Americans is closer, because even they came from another continent. By your thinking, if we follow evolution, we are all African Americans.
-
As near as I can find so far, my ancestors were here before the Revolution.
Not sure where I fit in.

My family tree was planted here in 1635........Obama is trying to kill it.
-
The question I ask is, how many people can claim that they are 100% Native American Indian(Sioux, Cheyenne, Black Crow, Iroquois and those living on reservations).
-
My mother's family has been here since 1735 and my father's since the 1770's.....
We came from England, Germany and Ireland...
and a bit of Native American on my father's side.
However, as for me and QUITE a few generations before me...we were never from "Somewhere Else".
I dare anyone to tell me this isn't my country.
I despise how Obama tries to paint me and those who think like me as people who hate immigration. :bs: Without immigration we wouldn't be here.
I just don't care for criminals who are here illegally.

However, you are precisely the type of immigrant we need more of, not less! :cheersmate:

Once upon a time, the "Native" Americans were natives of some other place. And boy was there a shit storm stirred up over the discovery of a 10,000 year old CAUCASIAN skull in Washington state not too long ago. :lmao:
-
My father's family emigrated through Canada to New York in the 19th Century.
My mother and six siblings were born in Yorkshire, UK. I suppose if my dad wasn't from a nice neighborhood in the Bronx I would be a foreign whatchamacallit.

My great grandmother left Cuba with my grandmother. My great grandmother left her husband and three other daughters in Cuba to get away from communism. My grandmother was taught in school how to take apart an AK-47, clean it, and put it together in school. They went to docks where they were told there were boats waiting for them, but it was a prank by Fidel to see who was loyal. Fidel could've had machine guns there to mow them down just because they were abandoning Cuba. When they left Cuba, it was on a freedom flight. They left Cuba to get away from communism. My grandmother got a job at 15 to help support her mother and herself at a candy factory in Miami. They left Cuba for freedom and to get away from communism, and now you, President Obama, are introducing it to their new home when they had already left their home.

If you look at the different physical attributes of American Indians from around the courntry, you can tell they too came from different parts of the world.

My name is Barack Hussein Obama II.
I was born in Kenya.

Both sides of my family came here from Europe after the Civil war. Sweden and Germany.

Mine came over in the mid 1600's but needed to leave for a short period around the 1770's till 1810 or so. They were on the, ummmmm.. wrong side. :whistling:
-
We should flood that site with stories of how our families legally came here and stress the fact that they did it the legal way.

You didn't sneak in.

I had one of those too :-) A great something grandfather that came here from Scotland to fight in the French/Indian war. He settled in New York but was a Loyalist during the Revolution and had to take his family to Canada. His grandson moved back here to OH in the early 1800's.

My kids are one-fourth Native. They learned through their "tribe's" oral history that they, too, were from somewhere else.

That is interesting. Do they know where? Males through their father's line can have their DNA tested to find out their ancient migration paths.

The DUmmies could probably be traced back to with tree their ancestors climbed down from....pecan, walnut, hickory....some nut tree for sure.

My paternal g-grandmother came from Sweden on a cattle boat. She was quarantined here to eliminate any threat of anthrax she might have been carrying.

Yeah. They know the who, what, and where. There aren't that many people out here. They don't take their tribal benefits. I raised them better. They know to be contributing members of American society and to offer a helping hand to others who want to get on that path.
To moochers, they turn their backs to them. To those who can't do for themselves, they offer what help they can. Just like the rest of us do.
