South Carolina politics is just a moron-filled cesspool.
Only post so far.
To quote the bald dwarf. "And so it begins."

As much as I disliked Sanford I just have to laugh that he defeated the Dem, this is going to be a great campfire.

The rest of the country laughs at them. They now have a disgraced, hypocritical adulterer as one of their congressmen and once again have shown their own hypocrisy and stupidity. They must be so proud.
Ted Kennedy anyone? Bill Clinton?

With his record, what made anyone think South Carolinians would look poorly on Sanford?
The voter turnout so far was only 19%. This means only the political right showed up. This group is fueled by a love of the Confederacy and a hatred of women, the north, people who live on the coasts, and minorities.
She had no chance..

Nothing, absolutely nothing, is going to get these rednecks to vote for their own self-interests. Not even when the Republican candidate is someone as vile as Sanford.

34. But...there was DU Post..that Obama's Justice Department was Monitoring this Election!~
What happened...He won fare and square? So...it's good. No voter problems there and Eric Holder put his whole Justice Department on it (according to a DU Post here) so...it's good.
It's what the "People of SC" wanted. FAIR VOTE...Monitored by Obama Justice Department.
Hey...what can one do? It's all LEGAL!
Soooooo, its only a fair vote if the Rat wins? O

Who are the selfish greedy assholes? Oh yeah, it's the DUmmies. They only vote for their own self interests, (freebies), while we vote for what we think is better for the country as a whole.

they lost. Even with money, they lost. Gerrymandering has done its job. While we slept, Republicans rigged the system in their favor. That's their main mission whenever they get the chance, unlike Democrats who want to govern.
It's amazing that they choose to forget the gerrymandering that the democrat party has did in california. It's possible that they will never be another Republican elected to national office in that state.

Please do a complete hand count, and audit it. Sanford is a ****ing cheater, and South Carolina has shown its ineptiness to elect someone sane.
Sanford needs to face a lawsuit and ordered to concede the election because of the black boxes.

69. Where was Obama?
Remember when a President actually took the time to do a little help out for a candidate for his own party? How many times did Obama visit South Carolina?
I'm sure his excuse will be he was concerned he might hurt her chances in a Red State. Uh huh!
Just like many of the Democratic candidates in 2010 he didn't campaign for.
Safe bet--golfing.

Mark Sanford has to have set the record for longest booty call ever. So at least he has that going for him.

Well, anything is better than a democrat win, but they'll try their best with their partners in the media to make this embarrassing douchebag the face of the party.
At the very best, it's a damaging Pyrrhic victory.

The silver lining with Sanford's win
The SC GOP and the GOP as a whole now have a walking and talking hot mess on their hands.
Sanford will be catnip to the media so his face and antics will be news. Along with him will be his fiancé. That should make quite the picture at social gatherings. That will serve as a constant reminder to gawd and everybody about his prior shenanigans.
He is truly a wild card and crazier than a s***house mouse. Sanford will now believe that every idea he has should be made known and acted upon.
The SC Congressional Delegation members are gritting their teeth. They now automatically take a backseat to Markie.
As Sanford proves to be the latest poster child for the GOP, they know he will not be judged nearly as kindly by a national audience. He will suck up their oxygen right at a time when they are tryng to get away from his ilk.
They wanted him. They got him. Here's hoping he puts everybody on blast and is the gift that keeps on giving to his opponents.
-
Safe bet--golfing.
Safer bet...he was asked to stay away.
-
Sorry that the good folks in that district couldn't have sent you any better but things are what they are.....hey, Tim Scott did hold that seat...and he was black before he became a republican.
-
I'm not sure that Sanford will be much of an 'embarrassment' regardless of how hard the media tries. Regardless of what I think about his behavior, the simple truth is about half of marriages crash and burn.
If this doesn't become a habit with Sanford, I suspect it will be forgotten about by everyone save for his detractors.

This guys groupies picked him up from prison with much fanfare and reelected him mayor.
But it is ok if a dim is smoking crack, with a hooker, on camera, in a city with a huge crack problem at the time. I am pretty sure his wife was ok with it. But he is a black dim so we all know that there is nothing to see here.

^^^ Good point.
Sanford will be catnip to the media so his face and antics will be news.
No, I don't think there are going to be any "antics." I think he'll keep a low, quiet profile. He's not going to get any choice committee assignments. He'll be as bland as my own congressman, who's nearly invisible.
Yay for the Dem loss.

I agree.
But. The fact that Sanford with all his baggage still won by nearly 10% is very telling about the mood of the country. Normally a scandal like his would destroy a politician. When the voters saw the democrat alternative, Sanford won in a landslide. The more Obamacare bites, 1000+ page amnesty bills, gun grabbing, and 2nd term arrogance....maybe people are beginning to wake up. I hope so.
For me, I will chalk this vote up as a bright ray of hope.

I am sure they will feel the same way when Wiener runs for Mayor of N.Y. right?
Their reasoning will be that Wiener has never advocated for fidelity whereas Conservatives believe in family unity. They will point out that Sanford is hypocritical while Wiener is not.
Convoluted reasoning is how they get from A to Z with nothing in between.

SC Dem Candidate Colbert-Busch Already Has an Arrest Record
http://www.independentsentinel.com/2013/05/sc-dem-candidate-colbert-busch-already-has-an-arrest-record/
It was either an adulterer or someone with a criminal record. Though adultery is illegal in some states, it is rarely enforced.
The truth about the Sanford victory
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2013/05/08/truth-about-sanford-victory/
Just as a Republican could never win Nancy Pelosi’s district, Nancy Pelosi helped Mark Sanford rally conservatives to his side in a very Republican district.
Elizabeth Colbert-Busch showed her shallowness on a number of issues, including not recognizing what “Toomey-Manchin†is in a very Second Amendment state. (If Ms. Colbert-Busch is reading this, that would be the gun control measure that failed in the United States Senate)
Sanford, for all his personal faults, is a master of retail politics. He opted for large, wooden, spray-painted campaign signs put in the front windows of local shops and the side of roads.
He toured the district aggressively while the Democrat held meet-and-greets with rich donors.
They opposed Sanford, a strident fiscal conservative, in the primary and did not help him against the Democrats.

And dear ol’ dad not only cheated on wife number one, but Sen. John McCain opposes gay marriage and his PAC reportedly sent $2,500 to Sanford for Congress.
