NYT: Obama’s ‘Red Line’ Comment ‘Unscripted’
Source: TPM/NYT
PEMA LEVY 10:53 AM EDT, SUNDAY MAY 5, 2013
When President Obama promised that the use of chemical weapons in Syria would cross a "red line" that would "change my calculations," he was going further than many of his advisers wanted or even expected by pledging the further involvement in the conflict should chemical weapons be used, the New York Times reported Sunday.
“The idea was to put a chill into the Assad regime without actually trapping the president into any predetermined action,†said one senior official, who, like others, discussed the internal debate on the condition of anonymity. But “what the president said in August was unscripted,†another official said. Mr. Obama was thinking of a chemical attack that would cause mass fatalities, not relatively small-scale episodes like those now being investigated, except the “nuance got completely dropped.â€
Months later, after reports that chemical weapons have been used on a small scale, the administration appears to be moving toward providing lethal weapons to the Syrian rebels.

Barry is a ****ing ***** who believed Assad would play chicken and back off. Now that Assad stood firm, Barry is too chicken to go through with his threats. NOW: The media and DU are gonna cover for the limp-dicked-lame-duck-****-stick. "Oh, he didn't really mean violence. You just don't understand his nuaunce..."
Give me a ****ing break.

2. That Assad had crossed a "red line" was a fiction created by Israeli intel

and a way to box the Obama Administration into a preset course of action leveraging the US into military intervention by increments. And, it appears to be working.

9. There's the loophole - if it wasn't typed into the TelePrompter, it's not official policy. It wasn't
a huge deal - that is until the President of the United States made it so by defining it as a red line.

11. I'm impressed with Obama's skill in beating back the warmongers and "humanitarian" imperialists.
It's too bad that there were those in his own administration undermining him and advocating for war.
That said, US actions have been unhelpful in finding a political solution to Syria's internal war. Indeed, the US promoted armed struggle at every turn rather than urge both sides to dialogue unconditionally: without the condition to disarm, step down, or what have you.
Barry is too much of a chicken to even protect his own people from being killed, what makes you think he has the balls to go after any other leader killing their own.

I have to imagine that their takeaway is that they let the boy king open his yap unscripted at their own risk.
Meanwhile, all TOTUS can do is shake its head.

The jug-eared Kenyan has a simple policy:
He will give American support to any gang of islamist savages fighting against any secular regime.
The islamist victories in Egypt and Libya are catastrophic for American security, but the jug-eared muslim is pleased.
Training for future attacks on the U.S. can now be conducted in relative luxury.
No more need to live with scorpions in the Afghan outback.

Sometimes I wonder if he knows the difference between scratching his watch or winding his ass or if the remaining brain cells in his head are fighting for control

Wow, this constant harrumphing over Syria makes Bill Clinton's hemming and hawwing over Rwanda look like crisp decision-making. Never mind that Central Africa is still in war mode from that ducking of responsibility. The aftershocks of this one have the potential to overshadow just about every presidential ****up for the past 40 years.

Why interfere at all? Let the Muslims keep killing each other neither side likes and there is no benefit from supporting either side. F**k 'em.

..it will be real fun once they determine that the weapons are of Iraqi origin... And it will somehow be Bush's Fault (tm)
-
Send in the "Duck Dick" inspector to help Obama formulate furr'n policy. We're going to get screwed anyway, might as well be by a small one.

If Bush hadn't invaded Iraq, then Saddam would have kept his weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. /DU mode
Of course that would mean admitting that President Bush was right about Saddam having those weapons of mass destruction.
Another conundrum for DUmmies: admit Bush was right or blame him. :-)

This will be a shock for you DUmmies...I am a staunch conservative, and I DO NOT support a military intervention into Syria.
Let the muzzie goat ****ers kill each other in any and every way possible, it's none of our business.

Same here let God sort them all out

The part that made the dog cock its head....
“what the president said in August was unscripted,â€
Really? What else is "unscripted"?
I may not be the sharpest knife in the block, however, I can still get through warm butter.

Someone put a book out that said Russia helped Saddam transport his stockpiles to Syria. I'll try and find that.

I've heard the same. I wonder if Obama's powerful desire to stay the hell away from Syria is fear of vindicating Bush and the invasion? Obama's certainly petty enough.

Certain assets seemed to go east, didn't they?

Yep BC. I think we ought to arm the rebels just enough to keep the war going on and on. Let Iran spend their money on propping up the Syrian government instead of funding terrorist orgs. Let them kill each other off. Saves us the trouble.
-
The knots that the DUches tie themselves into so that a sub 100 IQer president appears intelligent are damn funny.

If the weapons are of Iraqi origin, I would suspect there is enough of Saddam's 'secret sauce' in the chemical compound used to effectively function as a taggant.
In other words - If they did come from Iraq, Obama already knows it.
-
I'm of the opinion that the Assad regime and the Al Qaeda jihadists should be propped-up to kill each other for the next 10 years until both sides are exhausted.
I certainly have no desire to send 100,000 US troops into Syria to secure Assad's (and Saddam's?) WMD.
But...
...we have a US president drawing lines that are crossed and then doing nothing except sacrificing US credibility.
And THAT will kill more Americans in the future than he thinks he can spare in the present.

It would be best if they did kill each other.

Agreed totally, but sadly I can see this being Pres. Obama's policy until the happy moment that he leaves office.

Israel crossed Syria's red line again, bombing his stash of missiles, and Assad said "if you do that one more time, it's war".
Assad sounds like Obama.
