Florida Teen Girl Charged With Felony After Science Experiment Goes Bad

Kiera Wilmot got good grades and had a perfect behavior record. She wasn't the kind of kid you'd expect to find hauled away in handcuffs and expelled from school, but that's exactly what happened after an attempt at a science project went horribly wrong.

On 7 a.m. on Monday, the 16 year-old mixed some common household chemicals in a small 8 oz water bottle on the grounds of Bartow High School in Bartow, Florida. The reaction caused a small explosion that caused the top to pop up and produced some smoke. No one was hurt and no damage was caused.

After the explosion Wilmot was taken into custody by a school resources officer and charged with possession/discharge of a weapon on school grounds and discharging a destructive device. She will be tried as an adult.

She was then taken to a juvenile assessment center. She was also expelled from school and will be forced to complete her diploma through an expulsion program.

Can you believe this shit?  This "school resource officer" needs to find another line of work.

Poor kid.

You have to wonder how even liberals can believe that punishing small children for making finger -guns or expelling students for minor accidents will REDUCE SCHOOL VIOLENCE?  Seriously, it makes even less sense than their insistance on punishing law -abiding gun owners for the actions of the insane.  Just hire a retired cop or military person for every school and let the kids go back to being kids already!!

Liberalism is a disease of the brain and soul.

One has to raise boys to understand the mind set.

On a trip across 6 states the oldest thought it great fun to put a fire cracker in a 2 liter empty plastic bottle , light it and put the top back on.

Me driving when he took the top off the bottle smelled rotten eggs to the point I had to pull off the road.   My heavens what a smell, sulfer to the max.   My boy looked all so innocent, Mom what is this smell, I think my little sister farted.

Girls are no different, they can be found in the back yard digging a hole pouring in vinigar and baking soda,  or worse mixing amonia and bleach to clean the tub, yes they do die young.

With all the chemicals on the market kids will mix up most anything .  Then there are the kids that make home made Meth.

Chemistery is an interesting subject,  10 year olds can learn how to make a bomb with stuff found about the house.   What fun for some, get out there and learn to make a pipe bomb.  My boys took PCV pipe and sent a tennis ball down the street for a couple blocks, I was most impressed as they were both under 10 years old.

People turn out by the thousands to watch a building taken down, watch as it is imploded  and cheer.   They have no idea the the tecnology that went into the take down., the education and expertise used to insure this will not harm buildings only 4 feet away.

Way back in time my cousin and a class mate blew a big hole in my grandparents lawn using just stuff they found under the sink of the camp.

More specifically, Wilmot's mini-explosion -- which came after she mixed "common household chemicals" in a plastic bottle -- violates Section 7.05 of the school's conduct code, Lauderdale says, which mandates expulsion for any "student in possession of a bomb (or) explosive device... while at a school (or) a school-sponsored activity... unless the material or device is being used as part of a legitimate school-related activity or science project conducted under the supervision of an instructor.

My grand daughter turns 5 this month.  I'm trying to figure out a way to pay for private school.  I really don't want her in the public propaganda camps.

Jeez, I think I'd be in Supermax if I went to HS now.  Hell, we made contact explosives and a whole lot of other fun stuff in Chemistry class.

Remember the old days when experimenting with chemicals was actively encouraged, and I don't mean drugs like now.

There was a hardware store that used to sell small bottles of various chemicals and they were near the toy section.

Yah back in mid 70's for some reason unknown my parents sent for Xmas a chemestery set to my son when he was 12.   His Dad took one look at the kit and wondered when the boys would blow the roof off the house.

The boys had all ready made pvc pipe bombs to send tennis balls down the street a few blocks.  Males for some reason like to blow things up, nothing new.

Some how I believe some of the thrill to both boys and girls may come from watching fire works and as this is seldom seen but once or twice in the year  a big thing in their young lives.

Example,  Fire that seems to facinate some kids.   These kids seldom see fire and are curious-----Those that live in a home with a fireplace and see it every day, sit in the warmth and watch the logs burn know what fire can do.  No curiousity here the kids KNOW about fire.

We had in past years 2 fires set by my kids friends, one was hospitalised for a month, the other  darn near blew up my garage.    What did the parents do for the the boy but to teach him about fire by taking a lighter to his finger and burning the tips of his fingers.

Insanity here, kids and young adults are curious about fire and how to make a bomb or what not.

My very best friend had a son of 17 that decided to take the power out of over the counter fire crackers and make a pipe bomb.   Just for fun, he and 3 friends found a pipe , never checked it but filled it with
the powder.    The kids went off to a dirt road and found a place to set it off. Oh what fun for the teenagers.

The Pipe was cloged with mud  and when set on fire before it could be thrown it went off to take the eye and face bones of my friends son, and injure 2 of the kids waching.

Charges dropped against teen in science experiment 'bomb'

It emerged that the same D.A who charged her had, two days previously, decided not to charge a 13-year-old who shot dead his 10-year-old brother.

However, now there is some good news. Or, at least, sane news. The criminal charges have been dropped. She will not have to live her life as a felon.

Yeah. Like the Atlantic Ocean is slightly damp.

The things we learn on the Pc/

Darn what kind of toilet cleaner did she use, we home owner want to know.  I have two toilets in my home and if this will blow out the crud once a week with no brushing, just give out a mild whiff of smoke-- She is my Hero.

Now if she can come up with an over cleaner were one does not need a face mask and gloves, I will send her few bucks to help her get into college.
