VILLAGE OF MANCHESTER, Ill. (KSDK) - Five people are dead and one injured in a shooting Wednesday morning in the Village of Manchester, Illinois, according to Mayor Ronald Drake. The suspected shooter died later that morning following a shootout with authorities.
The Scott County Sheriff's Department said a child was taken to a Springfield, Illinois hospital for treatment.
The pastor of Manchester Baptist Church told NewsChannel 5 that the murders happened inside a public housing complex on East Street around 4:30 a.m.
The Illinois State Police is leading the investigation.
According to investigators, the suspect was located shortly before 7:15 a.m. in a vehicle. The suspect exchanged gunfire with Illinois State Police and Winchester police at approximately 7:27 a.m. before being taken into custody.
The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

This quite a ways away, in a small town of less than 500 people.

I'll be driving in that area next month on my way to Bloomington. It's very, very rural there.

There have been two other family shootings within the past few years. IIRC correctly drugs were involved in the others.

Police said the suspect, identified as Rick Smith, 43, of rural Morgan County, entered the home through a back door and fired at the victims at close range. Police say two victims were found in one bedroom, two in another bedroom and an adult male in a hallway.

Nope, these were all single family homes in fairly rural areas or small towns.

Out here in the sticks, public housing is generally old and small single family homes, occasionally newer duplexes or quads.

When I did a quick Google look at the place, there wasn't anything that really looked like the projects.
