Title: Occasional Wetness, Warmth, Cold
Post by: CG6468 on April 18, 2013, 12:57:45 PM
It's raining like cats and dogs here. However, it's not as bad as Chicago, where Interstate highways have been closed due to flooding since about 4:00AM, and almost all the schools are closed in the northern, northwest and west suburbs.

It's been raining here all day. Parts of our yard are flooded, the creek is flowing strongly (that's a good thing; it cleans out all the crap from the winter fall from the trees), and it's about 65 out there. But it'll plummet tonight, and the high tomorrow will be in the 40s, with possible snow flurries.

It did give me a chance yesterday to drag the driveway to fill in some of the potholes.

Interesting that the rains are bringing sink holes up north. I can understand in the old citys where the sewer and water pipes are over 100 years old, sooner or later they will fail at that age.

What gets to me is the sink holes out in the Burbs where the plumbing is less then 30-50 years old.
If not old failing leaking pipes, what causes these pits from Hell.

Watching the story about the home where the bedroom of a home fell into a sink hole taking a sleeper in their bed was closer to a horror story then reality for me.

My leased land somehow got past the laws on building on wet land, then after sighing a lease he came in bull dozing all the trees and now we flood every year.  We are replanting trees to bring stability to the ground but after a week of rain I wonder if the roots of the trees we do have will not come out and send the trees over against the house.

Poor grading to build those 30-50 years old houses. Always check to see if that dream house was built on an old land fill.

Chicago has a sinkhole in the street 40' across, and so deep that you can't see the 3 vehicles that fell into it. One driver is hospitalized in critical condition with head injuries.

Today we have some snow flurries with sustained winds ~25 MPH, gusts higher than that.

Geez.

I'm getting sick and tired of the wind.  Steady, howling.  Can't stand it.  I think we may get thunder & lightning tonight, which I love.  Cold weekend.

It's pretty bad when the dogs hurry up and do their bidness, only to race right back in the house.  :lmao:

33 degrees and an inch of new snow on the ground.

I stole Firekrakka's Grumpy Cat picture and sent it to my friends in warmer places.

That damnable wind finally died down.  Looks like we're in a steady state of 50's.  Snow in April is maddening.

30 here and yes, sure is. Reminds me of when Algore stood in NYC on the coldest day and talked about global warming.  :lmao:
