Title: What IF
Post by: Thor on June 10, 2008, 10:05:26 PM
McCain chose JC Watts as his running mate ??

Quote
(CBS) Rep. J.C. Watts of Oklahoma, the only black Republican in Congress and a member of the House GOP leadership, said Monday that he intends to retire at the end of his term.

"It has been a wonderful ride. It has been a wonderful journey. Of course, the work of America is never done, but I believe my work in the House of Representatives at this time of my life is completed," Watts said at a news conference in Norman, where he was a football star for the University of Oklahoma before entering politics.

"It is time to return home, to go on with other things in my life and assuming one of the most honored titles in America, citizen."

Watts, 44, was first elected to the House in 1994. He joined the leadership four years ago, in the fourth-ranking position of chairman of the House Republican Conference.

His departure could give Democrats an opportunity to pick up a seat in the battle for control of the House this fall.

In recent weeks, Watts has talked about the possibility of retiring from Congress with a number of lawmakers and also discussed it with President Bush, aides said.

As the only black Republican in Congress, Watts has drawn criticism from black Democrats, who attack his conservative views.

Yet Watts has won the respect of fellow Republicans, who put him in a leadership position, as well as of his Oklahoma constituents, who elected him four times, most recently in 2000 with 65 percent of the vote.

Watts is an ordained minister who was a star quarterback at the University of Oklahoma and played in the Canadian Football League before entering politics.

He considered retiring from Congress in 2000, but House Speaker Dennis Hastert, an Illinois Republican, helped convince him to seek a fourth term.

Watts became the second House Republican leader to decide against re-election. Earlier this year, House Majority Leader Dick Armey if Texas announced his retirement at the end of 2002.

Watts had considered trying to replace Armey, but decided against a bid when it became clear Rep. Tom DeLay, another Texas Republican and the chamber's majority whip, had the votes to succeed Armey as their party's House leader.

Want to divide the black vote ?? Want to cinch the Christian vote ?? It COULD be the right answer to Obama!! Thoughts ?? Opinions?? Counter-arguments??

That would go a long way toward securing my vote but any strong conservative would go a long way toward securing my vote.

It might be a good idea.

I told a friend of mine tonight that I would love nothing more than for the GOP to fight for this election as if their future depends on it, because it does. (future as a conservative party, that is)

I would loathe for the liberal projectionists to try to diminish JC's reputation and accomplishments and pass this off as exploitation. Wow, talk about exposing the true race bigots for what they are.

I do believe JC knows what's at stake. I truly hope he is asked and he accepts.

It would take the liberals about 10 minutes to start calling him an Uncle Tom.

It will be interesting to see who announces first their VP choice...  McCain or Obama.

The waiting game continues.

You mean milliseconds rather than minutes, right?

I doubt most of them can read that fast.  So about 10 minutes it is.

But we are talking reflexes, not intellectual response.

I am not going to sidetrack the thread with that sort of hair-splitting.  But you made your point.

Obama has to vet the vetters or something like that .. but he did state he would need at least two months to secure the VP slot. I think the fact that he needs a team of people to help guide him thru the choice is a bit disturbing. It shows yet again how junior he is in politics that he doesnt have relationships with anyone.

As for JC Watts - he is an outstanding speaker and this year it matters a lot who balances these tickets, so McCain would be wise to choose someone who blows the whole "I'm the first black guy" meam out of the water.

It would certainly stun the media - how would they chastize a black conservative, but not the black liberal?

Trust me....It wouldn't, just check how they have historically treated Condi Rice........

JC would be a great chioce, but don't look for it to influence either the black vote, or the MSM.......in order for a black to "really" be black, you must be a black leftist......it simply does not work any other way.....
