I figure most people here probably think we should have went in. Should we stay? Why or why not? I was for staying until stabilization, but I recently read an article stating that some Iraqi legislators want us to go home, so I think we should go home.
Thoughts?

Some legislators undoubtedly do want us to leave. I'd wager their in the pockets of Iran. I know President Bush declared that when Iraq asked us to leave, we would. I'm not sure what the requirements for that our, but I would rather that it came from the actual citizens in a vote or something of the like first. It's been proven that we can't exactly trust their government just yet.
-
I can't help but wonder what will happen after we do leave. How long will it be until they ask for us to comeback? There may be a betting pool for that subject!
It's my personal opinion that we need to make sure the job is done right or else Iraq will turn into the Eight Circle of Hell all over again for most of the people living there. I believe that if we could make rebuilding work in Japan and Germany after World War II then it's possible for it to work in Iraq.
-
We are at war with Iraq? :o
I didn't know that! I guess I learn a little something every day.

Surprise!!!! :lmao:

Cut and run and surrender are great options. The chaos left behind will be wonderful for ME stability.
-
I recently read an article stating that some Iraqi legislators want us to go home,
Which ones?
so I think we should go home.
Which is why people like you who change their mind like the wind aren't the type of people we need handling foreign policy and matters of national defense.

How utterly naive of you.
-
We leave now and it'll take maybe...an hour or so until the Iraqi Legislature begs us to return. Some of them may not want to admit but we've done a damn good job at keeping that country from descending into total anarchy. That may be a bit of a stretch but I thought it was a good point to bring up.

Since we are at war with Iraq, would it not be a foredrawn conclusion they want us to leave? Why didn't Poland ever think to just ask?

I'm not sure. Maybe they tried but it got lost in translation or something to that effect. Instead of the message saying 'We want you to leave!' it got mistranslated as 'Stay as long as you like!'

They don't want us to go home.
Not what I'm reading. Up to seventy percent want it.
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/04/iraq-parliament/ (http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/04/iraq-parliament/)
And the majority of legislators in Iraq want a withdrawal.

When terrorist killing is no longer a part of everyday life in Iraq and when troops stop dying over there, I'll take the idea back.

I agree if it's an article with nothing to back itself up with, but they apparenly have Iraqi legislators to back up their ideas. Our government supported this government coming into existence. To say they don't know what they're doing is like saying we don't know what we're doing.

It isn't an idea. It is misinformation being spouted as if it is common knowledge. We are not at war with the nation of Iraq and you and I and the rest of the world know it. To pretend we are for the sake of some liberal bullshit ideology is ridiculous and a perfect example of why intelligent people know liberalism is a dishonest air castle held afloat by lies and purposeful deception.
The reality is that the various military currently involved in Iraq are there at the request of the Iraqi government. There are indeed a few radicals inside the Iraqi government who are not working towards the best interest of their nation.
Of course, it is these radical to whom liberals adhere themselves to in order to perpetrate the liberal desire to slander and condemn anything and everything done by the United States of America. Freedom and liberalism are not compatible, so the USA must be destroyed by attacking every fiber of its fabric. Liberalism really is a mental illness.
It is folks like you, Bridget, who would have been, if fate was more kind, born in Russia around 1895.

I think as long as we are in a situation where people are trying to shoot at and bomb our people in Iraq everyday, and as long as there are people using violence to get power back, then there is a war over there. Currently, we are not fighting Iraq as a nation (so maybe I did word that wrong), but it's still a war. And it will be a war with the nation of Iraq if the government there says we need to leave and we don't.

144 Shiites signing a bill, that was drafted by Muqtada Al-Sadr and who are loyal to the 11 Iranian Shiite imans, out of 275 is not "70%". It's roughly 52%.

Tell ya what, toots, visit Iraq. Then come back and tell us what the PEOPLE want. Not what you read in some ****ing leftist article or Shi'a in the pockets of Iran say. Cool?

Not really. I believe in Iraqi sovereignty. I'm weird like that.
If it wasn't for the fact that most Iraqis appear to want us to set a timetable to leave, I'd be all for staying until stabilization.

....just not American sovereignty. You libs are kinda weird like that. :whatever:
-
BTW, the "fact" that you're getting from the "news" is bogus an anti-Bush. (Yes, it's proven that the Mainstream Mediums out there are Anti-Bush). There are a SHITLOAD of veterans and people that have been there on this site. Why don't you ask them? Oh, you think the "news" wouldn't lie to you, right? Typical lib.

Where did that come from? I believe in the right of Americans to have whatever leaders they vote for, and I don't favor another country making our decisions.

Troop deployments worldwide
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/deploy.htm
Amazing numbers - and amazing how many countries have troops in Iraq, since it's "supposed" to be an American empire thing.
-
Since we are at war with Iraq, would it not be a foredrawn conclusion they want us to leave? Why didn't Poland ever think to just ask?
I'm still trying to figure out how we are still "at war" with Iraq when we are doing nothing but training their army...their police force and helping them to rebuild their country.
-
why?
Because quoting a piece from Huffpo holds about as much credibility in REALITY as quiting something from Kos or DU.
You might as well be citing it from a Wiki entry.

hmm...
I don't know if I should interpret what you're saying as meaning that there should be an immediate withdrawal of US forces from Iraq, or that there should be a drawdown and eventual removal AFTER the country is stabilized.
So I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you mean "go home when the job is done".
Now:
In a letter to Congress, dovetailing with yesterday's testimony before the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight, thirty-one Iraqi legislators, representing a majority of the Iraq Parliament, have expressed "widespread disapproval of the proposed U.S.-Iraq security agreement if it does not include a specific timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. military troops."
Likewise, we wish to inform you that the majority of Iraqi representatives strongly reject any military-security, economic, commercial, agricultural, investment or political agreement with the United States that is not linked to clear mechanisms that obligate the occupying American military forces to fully withdraw from Iraq, in accordance with a declared timetable and without leaving behind any military bases, soldiers or hired fighters.
The Iraqi legislators are trying (much like the Democrats at home) to establish a set timetable for withdrawal, there's no indication from either of the linked stories (both from sources that I consider to be trash) that they're demanding an immediate withdrawal, or anything other than an eventual withdrawal (possibly when the job is done).

They want, as LC Efa has already stated, the pact for our continued presence there to include a timetable for military withdrawl, so, they can bide their time, fill ranks in the Mahdi Army, and procure hardware from Iran, Russia, China, etc. before they launch strikes on the ethnic minorities that also constitute Iraq for the conquest of the nation as an expansion of the state of Iran.

Hmmm. If someone as active on internet political websites as you does not already know the history of a nutcase site like Huffington Post, then you are W-A-Y over your head here.
Why don't you take a break from posting for a month or two? You should use this time to educate yourself. You embarrass yourself much too often. You couldn't possibly be comfortable with your present level of knowledge.
When you must stop to "research" something as well known as the Huffington Post, and when you don't already know it is a joke to everyone of any intellect, you aren't ready to participate here or anywhere politics is discussed.

Wow. This is what happens when I try to participate and be nice. A bunch of people acting like middle schoolers who have nothing better than insults. Okay.
-
And actually, I do have quite a bit of knowledge of politics and the media, including the fact that many conservatives think anything that isn't Fox is liberal. A little hard to take the "liberal" accusation seriously IMO.
-
Oh, and getting back to the subject (that is if you all have the ability to discuss the subject and not cut down the poster. I'm wondering about the intellect at the moment in light of the pile on), how does something being a "liberal" source take away from the fact that the people that the Iraqis voted for (by 52 percent at the least) want a withdrawal based on a time table?
Seriously guys, if you can't do better than insults, then I have to wonder about YOUR intellect. It sounds like it's not very high.
-

Bridget, you are not helping yourself. This post of yours shows more of your ignorance. You are not the least bit knowledgeable about politics or the media. If you were, you would not embarrass yourself over and over and over again. I am assuming you just do not have the mental capacity to actually understand reality. I suppose it is not your fault, but it is embarrassing for you and I feel sorry for you (because I am a nice guy).
Let me give you a clue: It is liberals only who have some glassy-eyed crazed fixation about the FOX News network. Normal people accept it for what it is, which is just another news outlet, which means it is taken with a grain of salt and a dash of scepticism.
-

I'll be honest here, your way of "debating" drives me nuts. It reminds me of Bok only not quite as calm and witty. You are obtuse and the difference between you and Bok is that I don't think you are obtuse on purpose while he does it to piss people off. Have you ever stopped to wonder why you seem to rub a great number of people the wrong way? Could it perhaps be you and not them? This has nothing to do with you holding the views you do, it is your reasons behind your views. They seem very 'in the moment" and not deeply held. If you had any power you would be the kind of person who would rule by polls, which to me is very infantile. You embody the very stereotype of a liberal as far as conservatives are concerned. I guess it makes sense, you are a liberal after all.
Seriously, why are you here? I'm not trying to be mean, I really want to know. You have your little corner of the net, why would you want to even participate at a place that does not respect you? It says more about you than it does any of us. If you feel our intellect is juvenile, why stay?
-

Constructive criticism is not an insult. Grownups know this already. The bolded line in your post once again shows how limited you are when it comes to discussing politics and the media.
Let me give you another clue, which also happens to be an undeniable fact: Liberalism cannot exist without lies and distortions. Your apparent inability to recognize this fact and reality makes you unable to converse with folks who already know what you should have picked up on years ago.
Your "52%" argument is baseless and pointless. It has nothing to do with reality. You know it, or at least should. You continue to be an embarrassment. Take some time off and use it to learn about reality.
-

Typical broadbrush on your part Bridget.
And having dealt with all of us on at least one other board where this stuff is concerned...you SHOULD know better than to come in here with your vague Liberal talking point memos about Iraq et al and think you can slip them by us.
ESPECIALLY when there are several of us here that have actually BEEN to Iraq...have actually deat and lived with and among the Iraqi's and have a better sense of what really is going on in Iraq than the Pseudo Intellectual folks like yourself.
And as for you boo-hooing about us being mean?
get ovver it.
Toughen up and make your arguments in a factual way that don't sound like typical air headded babble from your buddies a the DUmp.

Back to the subject Bridget.
Which lawmakers in Iraq are calling for us to leave?
Please link to come credible....factual evidence that 70% want us to come home?

God, you are dense. I was merely pointing out that the website you used as a source couldn't perform simple mathematical equations when they claimed "144 out of 275 = 70%". What they are referencing as a source for their "information" is a document addressed to the U.S. House from Shiites in the Iraqi Parliament, whom are loyal to the cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, claiming they have a majority of support for a amendment to the soon to be ratified U.S. security pact for a continued presence in Iraq. The document has the 30 + Shiite signatories, not "144", who want this timetable for U.S. military force-size to be drawn down and eventually withdrawn from the nation, attached to the security pact when it is ratified.
Here is a PDF of the document addressed to the U.S. House:

BEG, even CU knows how to disagree with me without insulting now. It's THIS BOARD. Something is terribly wrong with some of the people on here. Let's see. Patriot Game. The guy who threatened me more than once at CU until I called his bluff. TxRadioguy. Was okay with me as long as he was a mod, could have his way. He comes off as a spoiled brat that has to have his way. Airwolf. Hates liberals. Badcat. Hates liberals. Both not happy unless they can be stepping on them. Zaf. Hates liberals and has no desire to be their equal. Neither does a lot of people here for that matter. It basically looks like the worst of CU. There's something wrong with THIS BOARD, not the rest of the internet world like you all claim.
As for why I'm here, what can I say? After so much seeking off attention over here, they got mine. Seriously Beg, why do you honestly believe people here should have a right to seek attention on a regular basis and not get it? That's sounds spoiled. Like a bratty type of spoiled. Truth is if people weren't seeking attention here on a regular basis, I never would have registered.
And then I got here and found out that not everybody here is the trashiest, brattiest part of CU. So unlike the rest of the internet world, I'm actually wanting to give you a chance.
I promised staff I'd be nicer, but nobody in their right mind can be nice to spoiled brats like the ones in this thread. I've worked with at risk kids who were better behaved.

Bridget you gonna get back to the subject or are you going to do what you accuse us of and keep addressing the red herrings you created instead?

For goodness sakes, I've been Lanie across the forums for two years now. I'm even Lanie at CU now. Can you please call me that and stop living in the past of two years ago?
Next, you've got to be kidding me. No matter how good my arguing or debating is, you all are not mature enough to recognize when I'm right. Give me a break. I'm not stupid.

Seriously guys, if you can't do better than insults, then I have to wonder about YOUR intellect. It sounds like it's not very high.
This coming from someone who thinks Obama is a centrist and McCain is a Right-Winger. :whatever:
You really ARE in way over your head. It's not a f'n secret that Barack is the most liberal Senator in Congress. Well, not a secret to anyone aside from you, that is.
-
Bridget you gonna get back to the subject or are you going to do what you accuse us of and keep addressing the red herrings you created instead?
Why should I bother addressing the subject when you all have made it me and won't let it go back to being the subject? Give me a break. You have no intention of actually discussing the subject with me. At least people like Badcat are honest about this stuff.
-

Right about what? You have yet to be right about anything on this board.

This is standard operating procedure for you Bridget...at least you're predictabale.
I asked honest legit questions about what you said.
YOU chose to go off on side roads and ignore the stuff people are presenting to refute what you say.
If anyone here has no interest in honest discussion about the OT...it's you.
Quit projecting what you're doing in the rest of us.

I'll get back to you when you actually want to discuss the subject with me and not do some ****ed up piled on. Sorry, the pile on pissed me off and I don't care to discuss now.
-
For goodness sakes, I've been Lanie across the forums for two years now. I'm even Lanie at CU now. Can you please call me that and stop living in the past of two years ago?
Next, you've got to be kidding me. No matter how good my arguing or debating is, you all are not mature enough to recognize when I'm right. Give me a break. I'm not stupid.
You are once again denying reality and insisting folks recognize something as fact when it is demonstably untrue.

Why should I? Your actions and behavior hasn't changed.
You are and always will be Bridget to me.

Typical leftist Pseudo Intellectual Esotericism on your part.
You think you're soooo much damn smarter than the rest of us...when all you are is a Libtard tool.
We've debated you to death over several forums on these issues Bridget.
You've yet to be right once.
So for you to claim we won't admit you're right is just obtuse jackassery on your part.
I'm not stupid.
Nope...but you are a fool.

Pretty standard liberal "debating" technique....when confronted with facts and logical questions.....claim that their "widdle feelings" are hurt, and disappear....for awhile.......
Geez guys....I've read this lightweight's screeds on other boards for years, and she sure as hell isn't getting any smarter with age and exposure.......why waste your energy?

Actually, I'm probably here until I'm banned (which may be soon, but that's okay because I'm passed the days of whining across the net about stuff like that). I'll try again later.
Oh, and you do realize that you claiming I was never right in two years if confirming my accusation about you all not being able to admit when I'm right, right? You've never acknowledged me as being right unless I showed my righty side and kissed your ass with it.
As for my name, fine. But I have to say you and others are confusing those who don't already know me from elsewhere.
on edit: Just want to say that I do not think conservatives are stupid, just the ones who think they're always right.

You'll only get banned for violations of the rules here or if you ask to have your account removed.
That's the same damn whiny-assed crap you used to pull at CU when we'd hand you your ass on this stuff.
Speculating on something that isn't gonna happen is about the lamest piece of projeciton I've seen from you since you told me I needed therapy.

It sounds like it's not very high.
still waiting for a source for this "fact"...other that Huff-blo.

We are at war with Iraq? :o
I didn't know that! I guess I learn a little something every day.
I thought we were invading Iran ?

I figure most people here probably think we should have went in. Should we stay? Why or why not? I was for staying until stabilization, but I recently read an article stating that some Iraqi legislators want us to go home, so I think we should go home.

Cut and run and surrender are great options. The chaos left behind will be wonderful for ME stability.
Yeah looked what happened to Vietnam and Cambodia

ENOUGH! I don't give a tinker's damn about what happened on CU in the past. I also don't care about what transpires on other boards now. I made it crystal clear to you in another conversation that people here travel in overlapping circles and everyone knows everyone else from different boards. I also said you needed to contribute and debate honestly if you wanted to be taken seriously.
So far, everyone has done a good job of towing the line and not dredging up the past or drama from other boards (for the most part). But calling out people on CC for their past behavior on CU and listing them by name and airing old grievances? NOT COOL lanie. Not cool at all.
Let me make this clear to everyone: stop picking at old wounds. This is not an official warning. Just a plea to keep CC's integrity. You guys are all adults and have free reign here. Use it wisely. I think it's safe to assume that everyone is familiar with Lanie's opinions and posting style. And Lanie clearly has opinons about some of you. That's fine. Think what you want about each other. But for the love of Mike, please try to stay on topic. If you really must hash it out, go to the Fight Club. You can bash, trash and mash each other to your heart's content there.

H5 for you young Lady, but what is a "Tinker's Damn" ?
-
Hehe. I've heard it my whole life. It basically means, I really don't give a sh*t. A "tinker's damn (or dam)" being something of little value.
-
"Tinker's-dam - a wall of dough raised around a place which a plumber desires to flood with a coat of solder. The material can be but once used; being consequently thrown away as worthless."
http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/tinkers-damn.html

Hehe. I've heard it my whole life. It basically means, I really don't give a sh*t. A "tinker's damn (or dam)" being something of little value.
The phrase dates back to the Middle Ages. It originated with ironworkers. As Rebel said, it means a small makeshift reservoir for braising compounds and such. It became worthless with use.
-
Airwolf. Hates liberals. Badcat. Hates liberals. Both not happy unless they can be stepping on them. Zaf. Hates liberals and has no desire to be their equal.
And this is wrong? Hell everything a liberal stands for should be hated. FFS the number of people that have died due to liberals in office alone should tell anyone that following down that path is wrong. How many people have to pay the price of liberal failures? Just look at how many cities alone have become hellholes due to liberal mismanagement. Detroit didn't get the way it is becuse Bush got elected President.
-

I never heard it before.
My Dad and Grandpa would always say "I don't give a horse's patoot" etc :-)

They're the ones who started the personal attacks and pile ons. Seriously, follow the thread. Watch who starts up the personal insults. It's NOT me. It's others. I just gave some of the same back. To be brutally honest, I'm not convinced I can have a discussion here.
And BTW, people calling me "Bridget" and bringing up me at CU is actually meant to open up old wounds.
I can put a hundred percent into things on my part. But I don't see people here even putting one percent into it.

Do you really want to take the "Well he started it, Mom!!!" route? Come on. I did read the whole thread. You are dishing it out in spades.
I'm not going to go around the mulberry bush with you Lanie. Take my previous post as the only gentle reminder that you are going to get. You are welcome to continue to contribute to CC. I suggest you take my advice and let it go. I'm also going to give the same advice to everyone else. And at the risk of repeating myself guys, take it to the Fight Club if you can't leave it alone. I said you guys had free reign and were adults. Act like it. Please??

You're close to 30 now, aren't you? Still the drama queen though, huh?
And as for your contention that "we all think only Fox is right," a university in California did a study and found that...surprise, surprise...the MSM is mostly left-wing...EVEN FOX. NPR was almost as far right as Fox.
When you're wrong, you're wrong...and you're wrong a LOT.

And actually, I do have quite a bit of knowledge of politics and the media, including the fact that many conservatives think anything that isn't Fox is liberal. A little hard to take the "liberal" accusation seriously IMO.
Did you ever hit that nail on the head. The lefty lunatics hate Bush only a wee tad more than they hate Fox News and Bill O'Reilly. I would venture to say they hate Bill O'Reilly more than they hate Osama Bin Laden. :rotf:

They don't want us to go home.
Not what I'm reading. Up to seventy percent want it.
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/04/iraq-parliament/ (http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/04/iraq-parliament/)
And the majority of legislators in Iraq want a withdrawal.
