Should my fellow alum Skins allocate campfires that the primitives light, so that Skins's island doesn't get all lopsided over only one or two issues?
It seems as if lately, Skins's island has been dominated, totally dominated, by primitves raging fastly and furiously against Massa Barry's proposed reforms of social security.
The problem there being, due to the narcissism of the primitives, they can't just comment at other primitives' campfires; they have to light their own.
And so not only is General Discussion dominated by a single issue, it's congested with what are pretty much duplicate threads saying the same thing as all the others.
Variety's the spice of life; the greater the array of choices of campfires, the better, for both the primitives and decent and civilized people observing the primitives.
Decent and civilized people do a great job at moderating their behavior; as one can see from conservativecave, this site's rarely, if ever, been dominated by one single issue, not even the presidential elections. There's always been a variety of issues to discuss, to suit any and every taste.
But primitives have no self-control, no ego-control, and need regulated.
When the primitives start getting out of hand, such as they are with this really boring social security issue, ignoring issues of substance and importance, I think it's time for Skins to jump in, and ration out the number of campfires that can be lit about a particular issue--like, say, in this case, no more than 15% of campfires on Skins's island can discuss Massa Barry's overhaul of social security.
This way, the issues the primitives wish to discuss would be more diverse.

Naw. I love to watch the waste of bandwidth with the all wailing an gnashing of teeth. :yahoo:
-
I voted yes.
It's fun to watch them writhe and squirm against the rules imposed by King Skins.

But again, remember my main concern, as a moderator, is the quality of inventory for the DUmpster.
The DUmpster's like a small town grocery store, in which the grocer seeks to please his customers by offering the widest variety of goods his finances can handle.
Look at each "issue" as a certain product; cans of beans, bunches of bananas, cuts of steak, bottles of soda.
With this stupid social security issue being the only issue the primitives are all hot and excited about, it's as if the grocery store's stocked with only one product.

That too.
The more Skins comes down on the primitives, the better. It's for their own good.
-
I voted 'no' but it would be fun to see Skins lay down the law and then watch the "Some animals are more equal than others' axiom play out as some groups would be allowed to break the rule while others would be sanctioned.
No law or rule is ever applied impartially in any Proglodyte co-op, institution, corporation, message board, or government.

By the way, I saw the above word in a Michelle Malkin column today; wasn't it invented by our own SGT Snuggle Bunny? It's great to see the word gaining traction.
-
Every now and then one of the DUmmies will mention something similar to this, usually in regards to two or more duplicates, often even having the same header from a news source.
Then there will be the arguments back and forth as to why so many DUmmies (they don't use this term though) find it necessary to start their own thread on something that is already under discussion - why not comment in one of the existing threads?
But they all appear to be thinking "Mine is going to be the important one, simply because it is MINE!"
They are fun to watch.

As far as I know SGT Snuggle Bunny came up with it.
I just started using the term today. Far and wide. So far as I can remember.

Ain't that the truth.

Which suddenly brings up another suggestion my fellow alum Skins should consider.
We don't need to do things like this here, because decent and civilized people act reasonably; we aren't pigs.
So as to encourage more robust discussion, perhaps Skins should set th software so that a primitive could light one new campfire only in proportion to every ten comments the primitive makes at other campfires.
This would force the original-topic-only-posting primitives into engaging with the other primitives, instead of just lighting a campfire and regally sitting there, doing nothing, as Her Ladyship Lu in the cooking and baking forum does.
Or as the squalid nadin does.

Omaha Steve would really be hurt by this rule. Often the only responses to his OP consist of "kick" by Omaha Steve. Sad.

So too the rich bitch the kpete primitive, who rarely condescends to engage with other primitives.
She just lights a campfire and goes away.
Skins's island is a "discussion board," not a say-something-and-run-away board. On discussion boards, people discuss, you know. Like we do here.
-
I voted yes. I think Skinner should put a limit on the number of threads that can be started on one topic. After the limit is reached, new threads should be merged with existing ones.
One of the stupidest things on the Island I've seen is a thread directing people to check out another thread, or apologizing for something they said on another thread.
-
It would be futile. All the allowed SS threads would be ten times the normal length, and the attention whores would also be pissed off because they couldn't start threads on it.

Very nice letter to help Skimmer improve his site.
I hope that in your next consultation you suggest he should get the enigmatic Elad off his ass to set up the CalPig's Dead DUmmies forum.
After all, Skimmer gave her his word that if she would put together a little bunch of dead DUmbasses to sort of prime the pump, he would set up a group to properly celebrate all these deceased moonbats.
DUmmies continue to drop like flies, with no more recognition than the neighbor's semi-flattened roadkill housecat.
-
That was a nice letter, Frank.
Personally, I think the allocation scheme is a solid idea. It would get them used to the IPAB, for one.
Just yesterday, that big-boobed dyke L.Priyanka, started a thread, "**** Margaret Thatcher!" Her OP was: I felt so strongly about this, I had to start my own thread! ::)
Incidentally, I just saw a poll that said that 68% had a favorable opinion of Mrs. Thatcher. Obozo is at 48%.

I don't think that $kinner should allocate them, that would involve time and effort on his part which would breach the DUmp's primary purpose (from his perspective) of screwing money out of the DUmmies.
Far better would be to appoint a team of DUmmies - rather like the Hosts and the MIRTers...that would then make the process far fairer, more transparent, and in-keeping with the general Lord of the Flies style of the modern DUmp.

Yes, that is what I had in mind as well. Make them try to survive under layers upon layers of their own bureaucracy.
