San Diego Nine go on Hunger Strike.
April 5, 2013. (San Diego)—Today nine San Diego Workers went on a five day hunger strike. These San Diego Workers, are protesting what Lorena Gonzalez of the Central Labor Council calls “union busting practices.â€
This is not the first time something like this happens when workers try to organize. Last year over a thousand Janitors attempted to organize in San Diego, and the company they worked for suddenly discovered E-Verify. This is the same at the Hilton in Mission Valley. This is not being done by the hotel to check on the migratory status of workers, but as a tool to suppress the efforts of workers to organize.
In her view E-Verify is used “as a weapon to intimidate workers.â€

I want you all to realize something. First, I sent this to OpEd news, second, this is part of the national trend for more and more strikes.
It also revealed that we as a country live the illusion of middle class. It is an illusion. Those at the bottom have figured this out. They are losing their fear. How long until the comfortable "middle class" joins them in the front lines?
Now I'd better catch some Zzzz. Need to go cover day two tomorrow.

Isn't it against the law for a company to employ illegally moist mexicans?
And does this condescending crap remind anyone of this nutcase flashback:

Ok I want you people to understand something right now
In a regular, every day quake, you got logistics issues... which translates into :
FOOD,
WATER
FUEL
MEDICAL SUPPLIES
TENTS.
DOGS
RESCUERS that can self maintain
yep the list familiar from many a quake and other disaster.
Here they also have people inside the exclusion zone. From a TRIAGE perspective it is not that people are afraid to go in there to get them. Just that going in will get more people killed... now or later... really does not matter.
As an Emergency Worker it gets to the point that you have to give up... and it might seem cruel... given thousands are still in the zone from what I can read... but this is the reality of it.
And typing this is hard, because these people LOOK healthy, can talk to you, and all that.
Radiation just adds all kinds of complications and if I were in charge of operations (which I am thankful I am not) after a similar event around oh San Onofre... yes I would have to write off people...
This is the way it is... cruel, cold yes... unfortunately the needs of the few do not override the needs of the many.. even if the few are a few thousand people.
Nor would I ask any crew member of mine to go in... with or without equipment. I would not ask that... either.
It goes without saying... NOBODY DESERVES THIS, but this is the very cold and bitchy reality.
Why I was hopping for these people, but as long as this goes on... yes somebody pretty high up has made that decision... and no, it has nothing to do with capitalism but all to do with TRIAGE. Oh and incidentally if I happened to be inside the exclusion zone... I pretty much expect to be left behind... that is the way it is.

The crazy bald dwarf was trying to educate her flock of DUmbasses about the millions of Japanese who were dying from Fukushima radiation.
Their reaction caused her to leave the DUmp and go to Crazy Andrea's Old Elm Tree for over a week.

Five day hunger strike?

I see they are really committed to their cause.

Yeah, it sure seems a ludicrous parody of Gandhi's "fast"s "unto death" of the 1920s and 1930s.
Why is it every time primitives try to emulate previous reformers of society--Gandhi, civil rights, the "Irish" in Ulster, &c., &c., &c.--they merely make a preposterous caricature of what those people did?
(Of course, if my cousin "fasted unto death," we'd be waiting until, I dunno, maybe Christmas.)

They make a mockery of what people committed to their beliefs actually do. If they were serious, there would be no food until a deal was struck. Why even attempt it in such a half-assed way?
I was going to suggest that your cousin join the struggle, but then who would provide these journalistic masterpieces?

Five day hunger strike?
That's five business hunger days.
You have to do the math. Five days is 120 hours.
There are nine moist mexicans participating, so if each can fast for thirteen hours and twenty minutes, they will rack up five business hunger days.
So it's not a bite to eat from dinner until breakfast the next morning.

A little quicker, please. Try knocking it down to death in three days.

Well, little Blob Chavez imagines reality to be whatever she wants. :whatever: C'mon...no interview with the evil oppressor? Where is the hard-hitting, investigative journalism we have come to expect from the Pennysaver?

Power to the Blob. Right on!
It also revealed that we as a country live the illusion of middle class. It is an illusion.
A strike by 9 undocumented Democrats revealed that? WoW! Here I am, two payed for homes (1 rented), no debt, no credit cards and three vehicles (bought with cash). Been drawing a retirement since 2000 and almost had a second one vested until Telewoobie Backnine the 1st screwed all that up. IRAs, Stocks, Securities and 8 grand in checking. I never made more than $39xxx.xx/yr in my life. What makes you think I would have anything in common with a bunch of free loading cretins?
Oh......it's all an illusion. Sorry, forgot. :bird:
Those at the bottom have figured this out. They are losing their fear.
Of what? If the "middle class" is an illusion, what are or were they afraid of? C'mon Blob, if you're gonna put out a journalistic manifesto, you gotta get this shit figured out. What.... afraid of firepower?
Now, you're talkin' I intend that they remain such.
How long until the comfortable "middle class" joins them in the front lines?
Try never.
That's five business hunger days.
:-) :-) :-)

This is a group of people who, instead of lending a hand, send photos of their hands to the afflicted. Instead of donating to a worthy charity, they toss a random bum a couple of bucks and a stale Baby Ruth, presumably because that's much more dramatic to write about in GD than writing a check to the United Way. Their idea of daring protest is to refuse to spend money they either don't have or have no intention of spending to begin with for a whopping 24 hours (Not One Damn Dime Day). They herald Wal-Mart as the destruction of U.S. small business, but shop there anyway because it's convenient. A Leftist actor stands in Leftist Hollywood amidst a Leftist coterie of admirers and makes a statement condemning conservative values, and they regard it as "brave". Everything is show without substance.
They're the Kim Kardashians of political activism.

Five days without food looks like a good idea for the people in those pictures.

4. Kick and starting work on tonight's two reports

One has all the background to the strike, over the last year at the San Diego Mission Valley Hilton. The second is the visit by Congressman Juan Vargas (D-CA51) with the strikers and the interview that we had regarding immigration reform.
I also got him to speak a tad on the North Korean situation... see we can all chew gum and walk at the same time.
Oh and here is the best part. This will take me longer than usual. None of these interviews today were done in English. None... so I got a lot of translating to do. But hey, I am flexing my Spanish muscles... about bloody time!

Lol. Five days?
Bobby Sands, they ain't.

Are we supposed to care if a bunch of moonbats go on a five minute hunger strike?
-
I talked for a good hour with Rosa Monyhan, a waitress at the La Jolla Hilton. For the record, if you go there, and you find that the service at the restaurant is lousy, please tip the staff well. It is not their fault; it is truly mismanagement in action. Moreover, if you take an including package including breakfast, please tip the staff; it will make sense in a minute.
According to Monyhan if you buy a room overnight, and it includes breakfast, the tip included with your breakfast “is two dollars, the breakfast ticket is twenty five.†This is around a 10% tip. The customary tip for a sit down restaurant is 15%, 20% if you are at a luxury place or in groups of eight or more. Waitresses rely on tips, and they are losing quite a bit of their livelihood due to this.â€
What other shenanigans are going on? Well, she works the evening shift, and this is a restaurant with twenty tables. She is expected to serve all twenty, never mind that she has no hostess, no busboy and no drinks person. “When I started thirty years ago, I had a hostess, a busboy and a drinks person.â€
This essentially means that “I have to clear the tables, set up the tables, take the orders and be the hostess.â€
I don't know about you, but I smell Pulitzer Prize all over this hard-hitting reporting.

Even at five days, I'll bet it excepts liquids from the strike...like milkshakes, for instance.

Lets do some math here. A shift = 6 hrs. Let's say only half her tables are full at a time and she turns over 10 tables every hr. 10 tables x 6 = 60 tables. Now it's evening (dinner shift) and most people order a drink $10, + entree $25, and maybe a + dessert $7 Now lets say there are only 2 people per table= 120 guests at $42 a head. 120 x $42 = $5,040. Now let's only giver her 10% tip. She would earn at CA minimum wage $8 per hr. x 6 hrs = $48 + 10% tip $504 = Total shift $552. If she works four nights a week, she could earn $2, 208.00 per week. Not shabby. Even if it's really slow and she can only do half of that a week she's still making over a grand a week.

This is a hotel restaurant. Many of them get no business except room service and catering group events. Among travellers, hotel restaurants in general have a reputation for being lousy places to eat.
Last week I spent one night at a really big, very nice Marriott. The restaurant had maybe twenty tables. When I went past it at about 7:15pm, one (1) table was occupied. Working as hostess, waitress, and busboy for a single table would not be too taxing.

I used to work graveyard by myself at Denny's (front end) when I was 20-21 years old. It was me and a cook. It was fairly calm until the bars closed in town. That's when I had to babysit all of the drunks, but they tipped well. The entire place wasn't packed. It only started to get more crowded around 5am when the truckers would stop in for their breakfast before hitting the road again. It wasn't that hard to seat people, or let them find their own table, take their order, drop the food off, stop by for refills, and cash them out when they were done. It also wasn't very hard to clean two glasses and a couple of plates from the table and then wipe it down.

Why does this even merit a mention anywhere? Navy SEALS probably do this just for fun. Sorry El Guapo your Newz story doesn't make the national radar because its not crunchy enough.

Hey, me too. That was my first job. Graveyard shift at Denny's. I liked it, except for never getting used to the hours.
