I'm Free!
And no longer being paid...so eventually I'll have to indenture myself to some other master.
No worries; my real boss is a Jewish carpenter; He'll never lay me off, and the retirement plan is out of this world.
-
Congratulations?

I'm Free!
Alrighty then...

You retired I bet.
Congratulations!

Congrats and enjoy it

Congratulations!
I wish.
No, I got laid off.
But after the initial shock wore off, my next reaction was a mental list of some of the really unpleasant tasks I won't be doing any more.
And yes, I'm "on the stick" looking for the next job.

I know how you feel. I hate cleaning toilets, but I have to. Its monotonous work, women are nasty, and smelly. I can't wait to find a new job.
-
I don't know exactly how it feels because I've never been laid off or fired. But if I were (can't now 'cause I'm retired), I'd use it as an opportunity to inventory the mental house, clean out the unnecessary, and take stock of what remains. Then build on that. Best wishes to you, ExGeeEye, in your next adventure. No doubt in my mind that you'll land squarely on your feet.

When one door closes, another one opens.
You'll be fine, ExGI. :cheersmate:

Best of luck finding a new job
-
Best of luck in your new venture -- you have a great attitude which I'm sure will present itself to your next employer.
-
I will start my new job Monday. Praise the Lord with me; without His help I could not have done this.

Have you been unemployed since April? How did that work out?
-
I took a couple of weeks to decompress, and do some work around the house. Then I started researching other career paths.
I tried my hand at truck driver school, but for various reasons that wasn't a good fit for me. One side result was I found out about an undiagnosed case of Type II Diabetes, and I began a regimen of dietary change and exercise resulting in a loss of (so far) 30 pounds.
A VA program assisted me in taking a community college course in manual and CNC machining. Today, two weeks after completing the course, and after two interviews, I got a call from a manufacturer inviting me to accept a position. Looking forward to it.

You are free, just like all the best things in life.

Great. Sounds like you used your time well. Hope you enjoy the job. It's great to find out that we still manufacture in this country. The machinist might become almost as scarce as a good carpenter.

I was a CNC machinist for 10 years. It is a satisfying job if YOU enjoy it and your employer treats you well. You can make a good living at it as well in the right company. Good luck to you! By the by there are a lot of forums out there like cnczone that peeps are willing to help you out when needed.

corrected to reflect the true state of the industry. :-)
edit for apology...no offence Dori I just have seen gentlemen that are AWESOME machinist and carpenters in the industry all their life, over run by half wits and posers try to fill their shoes. I was not in the industry long enough to say I was any more than a worker, but I took in all that the guys that really knew what they were doing would teach me.

My husband was a mechanical engineer and machinist and my brother in law too. He's had his own business for decades.

Awesome.
You're right about God.
I hope this new job brings even more rewards than what you've been told to expect of it.

Congratulations, ExGeeEye - glad to hear your training is going to pay off.

When one door closes, another one opens.
People keep saying that. I haven't found that to be accurate.
