I'll see all y'all later or tomorrow. Gotta go to a wake for a fellow Legionaire. Melvin Hansen, a past Commander of the Romeoville, IL, post and the Will County post, and an Adjutant, Chaplain and other things, died from ulcerative colitis. Not looking forward to this at all. It's about 50 miles from here.

Sincere condolences, CG. It's tough losing a comrade and it sounds like you guys knew each other a long time. :cheersmate:

I am sorry for your loss, and be safe driving!

Wow, after all these years I had to run a check on this disease. So much has changed in medicine in the last 30 years.
There may be many of us that have this disease and don't realise it until it gets really bad. They speak of flare ups when it gets bad and normal times when all the plumbing is working well.
I never in my time saw anyone die from this, however people do die from all kinds of things, had an Uncle that died from a boil on his neck that he had lanced that spread poison through his body. Barber Shops in the old days would do the job, one could tell by the X mark in ones neck.

Safe travels, CG and prayers for you friend ...

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.

Thanks for your kind words, everyone.
Everything went as well as could be expected. Turns out that not only was Mel extremely involved with the American Legion, he was also a former commander in the VFW, and his involvement with his church will require at least ten people to fill in for what he did. He and his wife were members of the church choir for 29 years.
A veteran of the USAF, Mel was five months older than me.
He'll be buried at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery this morning.
Via con dios, Mel. :taps: Your calm presence is already missed.

Only vesta can mix up boils on a neck with a poster who's announced a friend who's passed on.

And it's worthy of a bitchslap -- not that the bitchslap will modify her behavior.
Nope, she'll come back with some stupid-ass bullshit statement that means nothing, says nothing and is nothing. :whatever:
