Senate votes 53-46 to stop US from joining UN Arms Trade Treaty

In the last batch of amendment votes to the budget, the Senate voted on several foreign policy proposals.
Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) introduced an amendment that would prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty in order to uphold the Second Amendment. His amendment passed on a 53-46 vote.
Republicans have been critical of President Obama’s decision to consider the treaty, although Obama has said he would not vote for anything that would violate the Second Amendment.
The U.N. Arms Trade Treaty would regulate international arms sales. Negotiations end on March 28.
“We’re negotiating a treaty that cedes our authority to have trade agreements with our allies in terms of trading arms,†Inhofe said. “This is probably the last time this year that you’ll be able to vote for your Second Amendment rights.â€

No wonder we have citizens who shoot each other. It's all of a piece and the ugly goes from the top down. My gosh what a mess. It's an international treaty! And we eff it up for everybody.
The Senate may have saved obama's butt from getting impeached. Our being a sovereign nation, obama giving a alien body regulatory powers over US citizens was a big no no.
Keep in mind that the hildabeast is for it.

Democrats voted that way based on Politics. The Polling in North Carolina done by Elon University shows that over 90 percent of North Carolinians favor Gun control and 56 percent favored a ban on assault weapons. Kay Hagan is scared of a minority in North Carolina unless she really believes that nonsense. Maybe she went along because it was going to pass anyway, just to not create an issue for her opponent in the upcoming election. The amendment was probably a political maneuver by Inhoffe.
The old broad isn't that smart.

Living in the people's republic of Chicago presents plenty of challenges to gun ownership, but I'm looking at classes and am going to enroll in the very near future. I also joined the NRA. See how that works DUmmies? Your insane ravings and plans to impede on our rights mean that you see an increase in gun and ammunition sales. Your lack of foreseeing the consequences means you will lose the gains you've made in the last few years. You want a war? You bring it to us and I guarantee you won't like the end results. Yeah the UN was coming for their pot and they threw a fit, but if the UN wants our guns then that's fine and dandy. Personally I think neither pot nor guns are any of the UN's business. Although I did get a good chuckle that the beloved UN wants to take their pot from them.

I'm ashamed to admit I barely remember that whole episode. I was in political la la land back in those days.

I find those who might actually be 'the smartest people in the world' do not spend a lot of time telling others that they are. If I could do a time sample of DU from the beginning, I suspect I would find an average of one post every fifteen minutes where someone on DU makes that claim.

Well Johnny Boy, you're an idiot. Number one that's an Elon University poll, they always tilt uber-liberal and are usually wrong. Number two did they conduct that poll in Chapel Hill, come down to the Ft. Bragg area and conduct that poll. Kay Hagen was one of those politicians that rode prezBO's coat tail.

Open borders....repeal of the 2nd Amendment...more taxes on the "wealthy"...amending of Obamacare to go straight to single payer ...whatever you can imagine...it could happen.

Or buy 2 billion rounds making ammunition extremely hard to come by. ...oh...wait...that's already happening. I went to Wal-Mart Saturday night to get a scope mount and there were maybe a handful of boxes of ammo. The entire case was pretty much empty.
