Never seen an episode of this myself, but it's produced by that same twit that did the "first time" poltical ads for Obama last fall:

I recently watched several episodes of HBO's "Girls". Offensive. Shocking

but not because of the sex or talk about sex; it's because it's a paean to privilege. And not very well done to boot.
Yeah, it's a realistic slice of life of the young and privileged and reflects the lives of its cast who grew up in that world, but it glorifies nasty, small minded self absorption in a way that I'd never quite seen before. And no, it doesn't cut it as being post-ironic.
It's truly bad. The great reviews are mind boggling to me. Emperor's new clothes and all that.
I'm glad I'm not the only one:
I hate the show Girls. Hate it. On a very fundamental, visceral level, I hate this #### show. It’s not because its poorly produced. It’s exactly what it wants to be and I try to appreciate it as a successful piece of art in that respect. It’s not because I can’t relate because I should be their audience. I’m a young writer fresh out of college trying to find his footing in the world. It’s not even because of the racial issues surrounding the show. No, I hate girls because it validates and glorifies crappy people. Girls presents itself as this coming of age tale about our hipster/tween generation and all of the missteps toward adulthood but it comes off more as an exploration of how vapid and awful privileged people are and how horrible it is for them to live with slightly less privilege.
The show’s supporters have told me that its aim is to humanize these well-to-do white girls and show that their youthful transgressions are just as ridiculous, unfortunate, and awkward as the rest of us but this simply isn’t true. The first episode I saw of the show concerned one of the titular girls getting an abortion and how her friends threw her an abortion party. I believe that you can find humor in any situation and that no topic is off limits. I’ve been in situations where I’ve had to deal with abortions and they are awkward and they are emotional and can be kind of funny. It’s a topic ripe for exploration for any young writer and something I wish that more of us would tackle but the show’s creator/writer/star/ (Lena Dunham) tackles the subject in the most frustratingly childish way possible that I can’t help but wonder why she bothered. In the entire episode (that also featured a subplot concerning the protagonist not getting a job because she doesn’t know how to conduct herself professionally and only seemed to make her less likable as a character) not once did anyone mention the cost of this abortion. A safe abortion is not cheap and for most young people who have to even think about the subject cost is the first conversation.
As I said before, Girls is exactly what it wants to be. It very accurately represents the lives of a very slim sliver of the American population. I have more associates in this population than I care to and it speaks to them and that’s awesome. The show feels real to them and, personally, I think it adds some validity to their lifestyles. And it does feel very real but Girls highlights an aspect of reality that is kind of ####ty. There are no minorities on Girls because the characters are terrible and boring people. As a black man I know I wouldn’t want to hang out with any of them (the Brit’s cool). Verisimilitude aside, the reason I really hate Girls is because it feels like a huge wasted opportunity. As if all of the attention and acclaim it’s garnered is as unearned as everything else in those girls’ lives.

11. Uh, I'm not going to watch it. I watched several of the episodes in the first season
to give it a fair shake.
And I did grow up in much the same milieu, went to the same kind of private schools, etc. And no, it's not making fun of it. And it's not really making fun of her living off her parents. That's a sort of inside joke.
Nothing about it shocks me, my dear, except for the glorification of certain kind of privilege.

You know most civilized and normal people just change the channel and/or don't watch such garbage.
-
They should all love it -
The series is about modern liberalism. Period.
Or MAYBE this is a rock the DUmmies don't want overturned..
-
DUmmy cali hates the show because it reminds her of her privileged upbringing and the wealth she enjoyed while living off her parents' estate.
Now that she's living in wallduded poverty, crawling around on her perpetually-broken leg, it makes her angry to be reminded of what once was.
Of course that doesn't stop her from bragging to her DUmpmates that she still has cable TV, with HBO.
DUmmies often complain about HBO programs - it's a very common ploy.
They're hoping to arouse envy in fellow DUmmies who may believe they have the premium service.
-
Let's see, the chick who did the obumble commercials is in it and she gets naked a lot and has sex a lot. Unfortunately, she's as ugly as a hat full of spirochete infested pig intestines, and nobody WANTS to see her get naked.
-
Liberal family values.
And DUmbass cali is ignorant enough to complain about the results.

cali is a black man? did I read it wrong?

Also, Dunham thinks she has the "beginnings of a FUPA (fat upper ***** area)" and wants to write about that, in her book of advice for women.

Who the **** is Lena Dunham? Is she related to Obama's typical white grandmother?

The voice of a generation, or so they'd have us believe. She got a little famous for an Obama ad she made talking about her first time--voting for Obama, that is, the double entendre was intended to make Obama seem sexy to low information voters. She has a show on HBO that nobody watches but is promoted like she speaks for the whole younger generation.

I've never seen it but it's my understanding it's about a homely girl that's a social misfit.
The DUmmies should see themselves in it.

No, the bitter old Vermontese cali primitive's just quoting someone.
Dear Eva's white, a femme, and from Old Money and Much Money in Connecticut.
She was at one time however either married to a black dude or hitched up with one, for which apparently one can blame her distancing herself from people of that derivation now. I dunno what happened, but it's obvious that dear Eva likes black people as an abstraction, an idea, but loathes them as individual people.
Sort of like the adroit sparkling old dude's trophy wife, but her hostility's not based upon experience, but rather that she was a spoiled daddy's little girl, growing up in an ivory tower where all was white and clean.

A racial connotation?
If that statement was made by one of us, they'd be jumping up and down, ranting and raving about how racist we were.

Good Lord, given DU's shameless adulation of Obama and undying support for him, how could something like that conceivably bother you?!? It should be right up your damn' alley!
:epicfacepalm:

She must have burned through the family estate.
She described the excruciating long-term agony of her crushed leg with no mention of the nursing help a person of even normal means would hire.
It's great to read about the hateful old earwig watcher scuttling around like a fiddler crab in blinding pain.

Cali should be thankful, they found the 4 hottest liberals they could and put them on TV. Let me tell you something, that is hard to do with liberal standards. They're all a good solid 1-4 out of 10 on the hotness scale. The producers and casting office had to work for their money to find them. They WORKED!
Anyways HBO, Game of Thrones is amazing.

Delmar is correct, physically she has a slight attractiveness in the girl-next-door, nerdish department which will no doubt disappear with the bloom of youth all too soon. Even beer goggles wouldn't avail if she opened her yap and started a Liberal harangue, though, she's nowhere near good-looking enough to put up with that just for grade-C-minus shot of leg.
-
Self-hatred. :mental:
-
I don't get the people who call Lena "adorable" and so forth. She's very homely, with that mousy hair and plain face. Someone said her body type was "potato." :lmao: (I think it was on Red Eye).
-
When DUmmies are confronted with what their liberalism has done to American society, they can't bare to see it..... :lmao:
What liberalism has done to American youth isn't funny but liberals reaction to it is.
-
"There are no minorities on Girls because the characters are terrible and boring people."
So, white people are "Terrible and boring people," and no minorities fit that description?
Racist!
Wait, never mind, I forgot that according to liberal logic, making racially bigoted comments is okay as long as they are directed against white people.
