Today while getting off the train to head to school

I was carrying a book about the Tudors, and it is about the size and thickness of the Bible. This older lady said "I'm glad to see young people still reading the bible." I returned by saying "This is not a bible, in fact its probably the exact opposite, its a history book." She then told me "You shouldn't talk about the good book like that, its Gods word" and I started to chuckle, then she made a hmmff sound and walked away. I found the whole thing funny and I hope she's pissed off and has a terrible rest of the day. Am I a bad person? I certainly don't think so but lately I really have been enjoying pissing off right wing maniacs and religious zealots.

You must be so proud for being rude to an old lady for no reason at all.

3. The same.

We will never be free of religious 'idiots' so we may as well be nice to them.

Except when, you know, they're trying to control us and are taking their frustrations out on the less fortunate. But that's usually in the political realm, not on a train.

That famous tolerance the libs always say they have.

2. To quote Patton Oswalt "I'm glad you like a book."

It's how I feel about fans of the Lord of the Rings and most religious people. Please don't tell me about the details of either one if them. Religious people have come to strike me as lacking creativity and critical thinking skills. (Sorry if you're religious, it's how I feel).

To answer your question, no you are not a bad person. Wait, do you have the bodies of dead hookers stashed under your mattress?

All you DUmmies lack creativity and critical thinking skills, otherwise you wouldn't be liberals.

Quite the contrary. Today you're my ****ing hero!

Yeah takes real courage to act like an ass.  :whatever:

21. What a lovely sentiment.

Attaching 'heroism' to someone who enjoys pissing someone off because of their religious beliefs, and then hoping they have a bad day.

That's just the kind of narrow-minded bigotry this site used to rail about when they read that kind of BS on Freeper sites.

Welcome to the new DU - same as the old FreeRepublic.

If you read that on freeper sites they were just quoting DU.

Too funny!

So, let me get this straight....you are assuming the OP "enjoys pissing someone off because of their religious beliefs" yet are COMPLETELY willing to give a pass to the nosy stranger who just can't understand why someone would be reading a thick book that WASN'T the bible?

The narrow mindedness enters in when complete strangers elect to condemn others for their decisions to read something other than an outdated and archaic religious text that has no relevance for anyone living in this century that actually takes time to THINK.

Sorry, but soon, though not soon enough, the bible and all it represents will be tossed onto the trash heap of history along with the stories of the gods of the Greeks and Romans, because it is EQUALLY as mythical.

Edit; and all this from someone who speaks of a historical DU when they have been around for a mere 18 months. Amazing

Well the OP is mighty proud of it, so I'd say he enjoys doing this.

word for hate, bigotry and complicity of pedophiles

And all in the name of fiction. It's so gross

You spelled liberalism wrong, DUmmy.

11. Well what kind of a person sees a book and automatically assumes it's the bible?

It's like they don't realize other books were written.

Someone who has actually read a Bible maybe?

12. To be fair

the copy I have is hard covered with a black cover so it could be mistaken as a Bible I guess.

15. So an older lady

believes that the Bible is God's word, and stated so.

And, as a result, you enjoyed pissing her off, and hope she has a bad day.

Do you really think that everyone who believes the Bible is 'real' is a right-wing maniac and/or a religious zealot?

I don't believe in the Bible one iota. Does that make me a better person than someone who does? Does that mean I should actually enjoy pissing them off, and then hope they have a bad day? Should I also conclude that they are a RW maniac and/or religious zealot?

"Am I a bad person?" Well, what kind of person enjoys making fun of people who believe differently than they do, and wishes them ill as a result of that difference?

Asked and answered, as far as I can see.

So you got your jollies by wishing one of the weakest members of society to have a terrible day, just because her religion doesn't jibe with whatever passes as a religion with you. Well, aren't YOU special!

What a bunch of fruitcakes.

They love openly reveling in what hate- filled, ill- mannered bigots they are, then have the gall to accuse conservatives of bigotry for no good reason.
btw, contrary to the OP's claim, much of the Bible IS a history book, such as Joshua, Judges, 1-2 Samuel, 1-2 Kings, 1-2 Chronicles, etc.. It's the history of the nation of Israel, and much of it has been confirmed as historically accurate through archaeological evidence.
Oh, and for the DUmmy talking about "complicity of pedophiles,"
1. The liberal teacher's unions fight tooth and nail to protect the careers and reputations of the pedophiles within their midst (Studies and statistics show that children are several times more likely to be molested by a teacher, especially a public school teacher, than by a clergyman), and when pedophile teachers are brought up on charges, the liberal media outlets give the story as little coverage as possible, if any at all.
2. The liberal organization NAMBLA openly celebrates pedophilia.
3. The liberal organization known as the ACLU defended NAMBLA pro bono in a lawsuit, and has for years attempted to fully legalize the possession and distribution of child pornography.
4. Liberal activist judges and lawyers regularly attempt to get child molestors let off with a slap on the wrist, and loudly oppose efforts by conservative politicians to pass laws that would impose harsher sentences on child molestors.
5. At least one Occupy Wall Street member molested an underaged teen, and his fellow Occupiers attempted to prevent the police from arresting him.
6. Another Occupy activist was arrested for attempting to pimp out an underaged runaway she had befriended to a john who turned out to be an undercover Fed.
7. Last summer, Occupy Oakland Patriarchy (Basically, Occupy Oakland's feminist wing) protested AGAINST a conference designed around fighting against child sex trafficking (One of the Occupiers protesting there waved a sign that said "End police terror against minor and adult sex workers"), and afterwards, not a single Occupy group gave any kind of statement condemning or even criticizing that protest.
8. In just the last couple months, right on the DUmp, there were several threads claiming that pedophiles are misunderstood, can't help what they are, and it's just a lifestyle choice no different from homosexuality.
I will pray for these guys whose lives are so miserable that they derive pleasure from being rude and intolerant towards others. They're people who just want to spread their own misery around to everyone in sight, denying themselves the true joy and happiness that come from following Jesus.

Had the old lady been a muslim and commented on how nice it is to see young people read the koran I'm sure the DUmmies would be doing back flips all the way to mecca

btw, one more thing to add, which might explain why so many DUmmies are blind to God:
For a while, I had been wondering a lot about what it would be like to see God's face. I know it's not something I can truly see on this plane of existence, but just a couple hours ago, I was finishing up listening to the soundtrack of the 'Les Miserables' film (Wonderful performances of wonderful songs for a wonderful movie adaptation of a wonderful play), and one particular part from the epilogue as Jean Valjean is dying stood out, and reminded me of a way I can see at least small glimpses of it in my everyday life:
"Take my love,
for love is everlasting.
And remember
That truth that once was spoken,
To love another person is to see the face of God."
That is what the DUers like Drale are blind to. They really only love themselves, and are full of hate for their fellow human beings, most notably those who disagree with them. Their hatred and vanity prevent them and others like them (I myself have been like that at times, and constantly have to resist the temptation to become like that again) from truly knowing God.

They're actually assuming this story is true! No one is going to glance at a book and think "oh, look at the size of that thing, it must be a Bible!". If any part of the story IS true, the lady probably said, "it's so nice to see young people READING today" and he's embellishing for cred.

Nor do they consider the fact that the idiot could've just said, "no, it's a book about the Tudors" and gone about his day. Pretending for a second this actually happened, the lady wasn't being the least bit rude. In fact, she was paying him a complement. The petty bastard couldn't just take it in the spirit it was given. Why give a simple HUMAN response and simply say "thank you" when you can build yourself up by tearing down a little old lady.

Tell me again why they're the compassionate ones?
