Sometimes it's hard to not feel just a little sorry for the Weeper.
It's a Saturday in March - you'd think he would be at a girls' high school basketball tournament game, sweating profusely and licking his lips.
But no, instead, he's truly excited about meeting a B actor few people have heard of:

Omaha Steve (35,025 posts)
'The Greatest American Hero' Marta and I met him today
We waited in line for about 45 minuets. It was well worth it. He took time to talk with every fan that went up. Not aloof at all. It didn't matter if they were buying his new graphic novel "Sparks" or not. He posed for photos, signed autographs, answered every question, remembered everybody's names, and more. We bought "$20) "Sparks". We also had him sign the cover to our DVD! If I get time to scan it tomorrow, I'll post it.
(Who could it be? Why, only the greatest American hero, that's who. William Katt, star of the TV series “The Greatest American Heroâ€
Katt is also attending the Omaha Film Festival to promote a new film based on the novel “Sparks,†in which he plays the masked superhero.)
Wow. William Katt, the real William Katt, THAT William Katt, isn't aloof at all.
Pathetic.
It's just pathetic.
It's sort of like when you see a grown man wearing a jersey with another grown man's name on the back.
Of course, maybe the joke will be on me some day when the Weeper sells that autographed DVD cover for a million bucks to the William Katt National Museum.
-
I remember the show. It was okay. Connie Sellecca looked hot in it. I didn't know the guy's name though. I don't think I would have spent 5 minutes waiting in line to meet him. Surely not 45 minutes.

Oh. My. Gawd.
There aren't enough :rotf: things on the internet to convey how sad this is.

Seriously, what's next? Bronson Pinchot is probably too busy for this sort of thing, but I bet Mark Linn-Baker is raking in the bucks touring the country as 'Cousin Larry', signing DVDs and answering questions from earnest fans.
:lmao:

Steve likes to play dress-up. I'm almost afraid to ask if he has a giant red onesie with a cape.

I went to imdb to see who he is.
Starting from the top, I had to go all the way down to "Carrie" as a movie that I have seen with him in it.

Nice score Steve. I'll give you a quarter and a deposit Coke bottle for it.

Oh I love that theme song, you kids have no taste in music!
William Katt also played Tommy Ross in the original Carrie movie.
-
I wonder if Katt served mini tacos and free beer.
-
Oh, and William Katt's Mom is Barbara Hale from Perry Mason.
I admit I've gone to those autograph shows a few times, very rarely do I pay for an autograph, a lot of those celebrities are rude, I was most excited a few years ago to meet Kane Hodder, he was the best Jason in the Friday the 13th movies and was really nice to his fans.
-
Yo, Stevie! I know ya'll don't get much excitement living out there in the middle of the cornfields, so I'll not bore you with the names of the people I've met, talked to, shared common interests with (you know, like Tony Curtis, who not only was a genuine star, but a genuinely nice person) or just the folks I saw in LA and said, "Hello!" to from time to time.
Now that I live in the middle of BFE, you know what? I still don't care. They're people. They crap between two shoes, have the same issues, etc. You know the difference between me and them? I don't need to have someone stick a camera in my face to get a sense of validation, and the people who love me do so because of who I am and what I mean to them, not some character on a long-forgotten show.
IOW, people love the REAL me. Try it sometime.
-
They do like celebrities, even the ones who are 'almost never were'. I had to nadin the Katt one, and according to IMDB he's been quite busy, but always in supporting type roles rather than starring.
Even so, a 45 minute wait would have been out of the question for me.
-
Where could I be?
Believe it or not I'm not home.

I had William Windom at my house once when he was in Kansas City on a stop over while on tour doing a one-man James Thurber stage routine. He also did some Star Trek and Twilight Zone episodes, and about 50 episode of Murder She Wrote, and had a season of My World and Welcome To It.

Is this that part about you being the turd in the punch bowl? :rotf:

He also played on more recent versions of Perry Mason, as the lead investigator's son who continued doing his dad's work for Perry Mason.
I still don't care about his book or autograph.
-
I have my share of autographs but I don't brag on it online to see who gets impressed. In fact autographs are one of those things like comic books and baseball cards that hit and miss when it comes to being valuable because anything can cause them to tank. For example take O.J Simpsons Autograph, Is it more valuable now or just before they arrested him for murder? Or Elvis Presley.
-
I have never been big on meeting actors, actresses, or recording artists even though I may like their work. I have no desire to meet them or go to lengths to get autographs.
-
I don't have any autographs. In fact, I have never asked anyone for an autograph.
-
I asked for an autograph just one time when much younger in my golf caddieing days, Ted Williams. It was actually a gift for my mother.
He is also credited with greatly expanding my cursing vocabulary.
-
I forget to ask for an autograph. That's a shame too, because I have seen a bunch of famous folks through the years.
-
When I was very young we went to DisneyWorld and I got Mickey Mouse's autograph, but as I got older I think he may have been an imposter.
-
I wonder if Katt served mini tacos and free beer.
I was thinking the same Freeps...
That is pathetic, he's another one of those 'actors' I thought was dead.
-
He's actually been in quite a few movies, just not very many good ones. I remember he was Sissy Spacek's prom date in "Carrie", and the lead character in the comedy-horror flick "House" that wasn't to bad. Not worth standing in line for for 45 minutes, though.

House was okay and was good enough for a sequel to be made, but I never saw the sequel.
I knew a guy that stood in line for 3 hours to get Toby Keith's autograph on a CD. I paid him $20 to do it for me since I was working at the time.
-
I enjoyed that show too, but I was seven years old at the time.
I don't know how old Steve-O is but he's got to have at least ten years on me.

The legendary autograph session here in red state hell occurred one year in the 1990s when Garth Brooks, at the height of his popularity, visited Fan Fair. He spent 23 consecutive hours, without even a snack or a bathroom break, signing autographs until every fan was happy.
So 45 minutes is nothing. Of course, people don't have to nadin "Garth Brooks" to figure out who he is.

Garth Brooks? He's that guy on Food Network with a wife who cooks and sing.

William Katt isn't a "has been", he's a "never was".
But can you imagine how long Weepin' Steve Dawes would wait if William Katt were replaced by William Pitt?

Once I saw someone who looked like someone who was famous once.
That's all I got.
-
I walked into Ron Jaworski once when I was 17 -- he was still the QB for the Eagles back then. We were both turning around a corner going in opposite directions and walked right into each other. I was too shy to ask for an autograph (and a bit mortified that I had just bounced off his chest!). Very nice man, however.
-
I had to look up William Katt.
I got an autograph from Felicia Day. She's the created the show The Guild. Total babe too.
Oh yeah! I also met the bands Demon Hunter, Living Sacrifice, Advent, and White Collar Sideshow.

That's nothing. I had lunch once with Wild Bill Shrewsberry.
And I bumped into Slim Whitman in the Atlanta airport.
And almost bumped into Ronnie Milsap in the Nashville airport.
He wasn't watching where he was going.

I talked with Neil young at the baggage claim in the INDY airport. DIdn't get an autograph or told him what I did for a living for fear that it would be the subject of his next moonbat album.
