Teenager spotted walking 10 MILES in the snow to interview for $7-an-hour job is given work

Teenager spotted walking 10 MILES in the snow to interview for $7-an-hour job is given work on the spot by restaurant owner - who doubled his pay

A teen's luck appears to have changed after a chance encounter with an Indiana restaurant owner during a 10-mile trek through ice and snow for a minimum wage job interview.

It all started on Friday, when Art Bouvier, the proprietor of Papa Roux, a Cajun restaurant in Indianapolis, was laying rock salt outside the establishment after an ice storm earlier that morning. He said he was approached by a teen who asked him how far it was to 10th and Sherman.

Mr Bouvier told WLFI-TV: 'And I'm thinking we're at 10th and Post. I said, "Buddy that's probably six, seven miles." I said, "You'd be better off on a bus especially in this weather." He just said, "Okay, thank you." And he kept going.'

Later, as Mr Bouvier was driving with his wife to a coffee shop, he was surprised to find the same person, still walking. They pulled over, and asked him if he needed a ride.

The DUmmies miss the point of this story and seem to think that everyone is owed what this kid got.

1. The business sector could step up like this man did and

duplicate this situation over and over again. The goodwill alone engendered by acts of responsible citizenship and fairness would come back to them many times in support for their products or services.

The problem is, you aren't going to find many people who would walk 10 miles in the snow for a job.
Hell the DUmmies won't cross the street on a sunny day to find a job.

2. Skidmore makes a good point.

Businesses need to look at treating employees well, too, instead of sucking the life out of them.

dipsydoodle, thanks for posting this. It's a good way to start the morning on a positive note.

Yeah you goons are praising this guy, but he does something that will make your eyes bleed. He expects his employees to show up on time and work.

0bama lies about 0bamacare.

9. What a nice story!

That's what work ethic looks like.

Finally one DUmmy gets that.

38. I can just hear angry conservatives snarling and scoffing about this

You'd think they'd admire his "bootstrappy" behavior but they'd be madder he ended up being paid more than he's "worth" ( since only starch-shirted paper-pushing MBA's who don't produce anything of value have a right to a living wage )

What an idiot.

The quote by PopulistProle is the stupidest post of the day, and it's only 8:30 am.

That is a great story, it was also featured on Hannity last night.

It's astonishing that such a piece made it all the way across the pond to appear in a British paper.  Is a self-determined work ethic so rare these days?  Don't answer, it's too early.

As a side note, I think that liberals in general overestimate the value of things like "goodwill."  They think that if you give employees 365 day vacations and pay them $100K, the community will love them so much that they will heap tons of profitable business on them.  They think that if you let employees come in any time they please, play games and screw around on Facebook all day, or surf pron, then you will have such happy employees that they will return in productivity a thousand-fold.  We all know what real life and real human nature is.

DU google seach "boot straps" and see how much derision the left heaps on this sort of behavior.

I guess I can't be a conservative, I don't feel in the least bit mad that a business owner decided how much he feels he should pay his employees - I suspect that he'll rapidly discover that this young man definitely is worth every cent.

Hell the DUmmies won't cross the street on a sunny day to find a job.

They would run across the road to get away from a job - sitting being paid by the tax-payers being far preferable in their world.

I heard Glenn Beck interviewing the business owner today.  He said he did NOT offer to pay the kid double what the other place offered.  He said he simply said he would pay him better than minimum wage.

Great story no matter what.

I'd bet if any of the DUmmies ran across this kid they would insult him and call him stupid for wanting a job.

A dedicated employee is worth the moon.  Someone who shows up and expects to be paid for doing (less than) the bare minimum is worth jack shit.

It makes up an idea in its head, falls in love with the idea, forgets it made the idea up, and believes the idea in its head is reality.

This must be an elected Democrat somewhere.
