Maybe we need a new word to use in these cases.  "Bully", "bullying", and "bullied" are about as useful as "shooter" and "hate".  They blur and make fuzzy the real situation.

Ya know...

I was teased a lot in school about being the short fat book worm kid.

I'm still alive.

Perhaps kids of my generation were made of sterner material?

:werd: Being a navy brat, I didn't have the same school two school years in a row until I was in middle school.  The only long term friends I had were the kids of my dad's shipmates, so yeah, being the perpetual "outsider", I was teased and picked on A LOT. Didn't make much difference to me: I got along with the ones I could get along with, ignored the ones who could be ignored, and beat the crap out of the few who lacked for attention from any other source.

I think so.

I was the smallest and skinniest kid in just about every grade in school from 1st thru 12. I learned how to fight and was pretty good at it. If I would have complained to my dad about being pick on, he would have given me a good ass whipping. My dad had his leg cut off when he was a kid. He got picked on but a heavy wooden oak crutch would deter most of them.

Parents these days tell their kids not to fight back. However, in my days, you did not have to worry about someone bringing a knife or gun to try and kill you.

I look at where these bullies are now, 30-40 years after the fact.

And I smile.
