I don't have an explanation for the outage yet, but I will get one and share
that information with you all as soon as I get it.

My heart was beatin' pretty hard there.
*whew*

miami.
i thought the same thing, sarge, and it was clear as a bell there. we will take definitive action on this;
my tolerance has been exceeded.
we are a growing board, not an established board, and this shit kills us.

Well, we all appreciate it very much.

I hate to be the guy that says, "Hey, yeah, there was a problem, but it's not our fault", but these past downings haven't been on CC's end. Our server is running strong. The host, however, had been shaky. Keep in mind, everything, all processes, etc., are under our control. The only thing not under our control is the connection, I.e., those two Cat 6 cables coming into the server. That's what we keep losing because the data center keeps crashing.
The bright side to this is that we're not the only ones in the data center. So, they HAVE to get the thing back up. Since this has pretty much happened on a routine basis, we are probably going to be looking for another host. We'll have to ship our server TO another host, so we'll have to bring Dreamhost back online for a few days so it can be shipped and Go Daddy for usmilnet.
-
it was a power failure at our host (again). I have checked the logs, and we just CRASHED
out of nowhere.
I just cannot express how embarrassed Rebel and I are over this.

kevin is absolutely right, but just because it wasn't our fault doesn't mean much to our members.
we WILL take action after this, and our members WILL see results.

Frank is right. It happens. And we all appreciate the efforts and dedication to seeing that we run smoothly.
Now, if we could just get them to stop tripping over our Cat 6 cables. :-)

Unnecessary to be embarrassed over something not your fault. We might be pissed for a short time over the outage, but we'll keep coming back!
-
server pronto is killing us.
I am trying to find a better host provider. Our service will improve, gang, you
have my word on that.

We're not the only ones affected. That's the good thing. It lights a fire under their asses when tons of money is in jeopardy.
-
Don't worry guys, we all know how hard you work keeping CC running.
-
It's not like I can post any where else.

Lord Rove owes me a few favors. I could ask him to send a few of his "assistants" over there to "check on things" for you.

I think yesterday was just a day for outages. Maybe something to stop and make us pause to remember because we have a huge, disruptive power outage at work. We have two huge ups and one lasted for 30 minutes, which I think would have been 10 minutes shorter than the power outage, and the other lasted for 55 minutes which was more than enough time but something went wrong and the UPS didn't switch back to real power once that became available.
And over course it happened in the wee hours when nobody was there and if there were any alarms that were to notify our engineers and building person, they failed too.
Sometimes things just fail. Like Princess Lea says to Darth Vader, the tighter you make your fist and try to control things, the more systems slip through your fingers.
Or as Frank is fond of saying excrescence happens.
Or as the Buddhists say Dukha happens.

Excellent job WE. Scheduling the outage on the day I was going to be gone. :-)
