I have no illusions about the bill making it through the legislative process, but I want it to be clear that the Missouri House will stand in defense of the people’s constitutional right to keep and bear arms,†Leara told TheBlaze, reading from a prepared statement.
His bill actually has a chance to make it through to become law. If he's not going to push it, then it's just as big of a political stunt as the demoshits and, quite frankly, that's unacceptable.

The thing about political stunts is, they work. They get the point across. Leara is enough of a realist to see that his "stunt" will go nowhere and recognizes that straight off.
This, compared to the moron Serrano (D-NY) who insists on re-introducing a joint resolution in the House to, he hopes, repeal of the 22nd Amendment and thereby permit presidents to serve beyond 2 full terms. This 12-term idiot has done this at every Congress since his election.
You'd think that Serrano would "get it." Nope, he doesn't get it. The stoopid runs strong in that guy.

The thing about political stunts is, they work. They get the point across. Leara is enough of a realist to see that his "stunt" will go nowhere and recognizes that straight off.

He introduced the legislation to make a point after Democrats proposed an alarming gun confiscation bill last week. That HB545 “Any person who, prior to the effective date of this law, was legally in possession of an assault weapon or large capacity magazine shall have ninety days from such effective date to do any of the following without being subject to prosecution.†It also states
(1) Remove the assault weapon or large capacity magazine from the state of Missouri;
(2) Render the assault weapon permanently inoperable; or
(3) Surrender the assault weapon or large capacity magazine to the appropriate law enforcement agency for destruction, subject to specific agency regulations.
(4)Unlawful manufacture, import, possession, purchase, sale, or transfer of an assault weapon or a large capacity magazine is a class C felony.
They are defining "Assault weapon" as semi automatic.
I support what he is doing. Protest the absurd with the absurd.

The kind of bullshit that comes out of the various lawmakers' assemblies that mean absolutely nothing but wasting the taxpayer's money are resolutions and half-baked efforts that have no teeth. These generally fail to address the issue in a meaningful way and/or are warm 'n fuzzies that are designed to make a particular group feel good about themselves. Meh.
While this effort falls arguably in that camp, there is a decided POINT that Leara is making. And he's minimizing the overall "investment" of time, money and energy in getting the Missouri House to support legislation that he knows will go nowhere by simply stating it up front.
And who knows? Maybe this particular effort will lead to something/legislation that's more substantial. Right now, the only thing that's happening in Missouri are hip shots. Aiming carefully using a good sight picture and proper breathing techniques, not to mention trigger squeeze isn't being done right now because the ****ing politicians want to get their mugs in the press. And it works that way on both sides of the aisle.

Euph, you're closer to the problem in MO than I am so I am going to have to defer to your wisdom in this matter. I would rather see his bill hit the state house floor as a precedent setter for other states to follow, but, cest la vie...
