Starting late Wednsday night we will be getting hit with snow. Anywhere between 8-12 inches which is not unusual but the storm is going to hit just as the morning rush hour its the Omaha area. It reminds me of that one idiot on DU that went online and bitched about how he was stuck during a large storm and whined about no power and such. Around here the people just get going and deal with it as best they can and prep for it before storms hit. If it goes anywhere near that Dummy on the East coast i hope it makes his life miserable.
-
The prediction's for 18+ inches up here on Thursday.
Whatever.
One isn't going to see Drudge or the mainstream news media get all excited about it either.
-
Central Illinois is supposed to get some. We've had more rain than snow this winter. :) Love me some global warming. :-)

It's odd.
In Nebraska, Airwolf over by Omaha, and dutch508 over on the other side of the Sandhills, got snow this winter.
We never did, other than a couple instances of very light dusting that lasted only a few minutes.
Now, we're expected to be dumped on more than everybody else.
<<<will be at home, all provisioned up, on Thursday, to give play-by-play.

We haven't had enough snow to even get out a snow shovel yet. Most of the snow is supposed to stay north of us with some places getting 8-10 inches up north.

HEY! I'm up north of you! :lmao:
Only supposed to get about 4" here, starting Thursday night through Friday morning. We'll see.....
-
Supposedly, from this same storm, we're supposed to get 3 to 6 inches--on the weekend. I might be able to run the snowblower's tank dry ('course, I'll have to do another four driveways with it) this time.
-
I'm in Des Moines. They keep upping the inches we're gonna get. Its officially 6-12 inches, probably 9 inches.
Its gonna start at 3PM on Thursday, and finish up around noon on Friday. It could be an inch or two an hour at times.
Coming from Arizona, that translates to, "Y'all are gonna DIE!"
I should Pull a Nadin and report on Snow Fires raging across Iowa. Got the scoop on my scanner.

It must be a slow-moving storm if you have to wait until 3:00 p.m. tomorrow.
It's forecast to stike here on the roof of Nebraska about midnight.
-
Well, we're supposed to get the first of it circa midnight.
But apparently it's been changed for Omaha.
The closer Thursday's snowstorm gets to the Omaha metro area, the clearer it has become that dry winds blowing from the east will delay the accumulation of snow, complicating forecasts of afternoon travel conditions.
The dry winds will rob the atmosphere of moisture, delaying the onset of accumulating snow until the air is saturated.
Meteorologists with the National Weather Service said the latest analysis indicates snow probably won't start in the Omaha area until about noon Thursday, and perhaps only an inch may accumulate during the early afternoon.
Heavy snow may not start falling until about 4 p.m. Thursday, said Brian Smith, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service. Four to eight inches of snow is forecast Thursday in the Omaha area.

Looks like it'll be an ice storm for us in southern MO. Just came in from tarping my tractor, it actually feels slightly warmer than it did around lunchtime today despite the sun being down for several hours. Supposed to start as drizzle some time tonight and switch over to freezing rain later, continuing through tomorrow afternoon.

Hmm, I may have to run up to Des Moines on Sunday. You think it'll be cleared up decently by then? I'm coming from SW MO.
-
Our city started doing something new this winter. Every time there is a snow storm predicted they send out trucks to spread a salt solution on the main roads and bridges. Then run the plows and salt trucks after the snow starts. Fortunately we haven't had much accumulation to see if the brine works or not. Does anyplace else do this?
-
They've been using brine here for a few years but it usually doesn't snow enough for it to be any use. It didn't snow at all this winter.

Hmmm. I'm not sure. I'm an old Arizona boy. I make it a point to stay off the highways so soon after a storm like this-not so much for the ice but for the truckers going full speed.
Inside the city, driving should be OK. Outside the city...its pretty scary.
-
The latest forecast for us is 2-4 inches starting sometime tomorrow evening.
-
5 to 9 inches they're saying, after 9 a.m. tomorrow.
I'll have been at work for a couple hours at that point. Prolly make it a short day.

I know Brain Smith. We both belong to the local model building club in Omaha

A very light flurry up over here at 4:00 a.m.
I wonder if this is going to be a bust.
-
Here it is, nearly 6:00 a.m., and nothing's happened.
Not even a flake.
This is a bust.
-
The radar circa 6:00 a.m. central time, 5:00 a.m. mountain time.

The radar is not reflecting reality; it's fake.
Nothing's happening, not a flake in Nebraska nowhere.
And to think I stayed up all night long, hoping to see something.

It's probably evaporating before it hits the ground. We are down to a 'dusting' on Saturday and Sunday.
-
Our "dusting" is supposed to be 4" to 7". We'll see. I could certainly use the $$$ I'd get for driveway plowing.

I put it as a 'dusting' because another report I heard said 4" of the stuff. I'll run the gas out of the snowblower with that.

Finally.....fourteen hours late, snow.
Snow coming down in thick blankets, no wind yet.
All was covered with white within minutes.
<<out of sorts because had gotten everything done, including work, in advance of this storm, and then spent fourteen hours sitting around, twiddling the thumbs, waiting.
<<will never trust a weather forecast again.

All the cats were inventoried and brought inside last night.

Big snowflakes have just started falling here.

Big snowflakes have just started falling here.
Nothing here yet.
What town do you live in? If you prefer, send me a PM.
-
Decatur. It took about five minutes for the road and sidewalk to be covered, but the grass isn't yet.

Ahh. I knew it was somewhere down there.

Des Moines. at 2:55 a few flakes were drifting down. at 3 the snow was falling hard! It was like each flake weighed a pound or something. By the time I pulled out of the parking garage, the roads were slick. I was having to use my wipers, and they were no good when i got home...the blades were covered with ice (I had to break it off).
In just a half hour Des Moines was white...The streets, lots, grass...it was all white. I would say almost a quarter inch had fallen.
I did see my first idiot...He was speeding in a hot car, and spun outa control on a bridge. Didn't hit anyone, but there is always one guy.... :thatsright:
So I'm all stocked up. The staples plus comfort food.
Now I just need a wife or a holodeck and i'll be all set.
-
We had at least 18 inches that fell within 2-3 hours.
Un-f'n-believable.
It took me 3 hours to dig out and I'm still not done.
FML.
-
Well we are looking at 8-9 inches by 6 AM here in the Omaha area. Nothing to worry about here for me since I just stayed home and have the car in the Garage and when the snow stops the Drive will get cleared off for me if I need to get out tomorrow. Have plenty of food and the heats on so no problems here.
-
It looks like we have about 4 inches on the ground and hopefully it is done. They were calling for temps in the low 30's today and low 40's tomorrow, but I don't think it will get that warm. The weather people tend to neglect the effect of snow cover on the temperatures.

Looks like about 3.5" on the ground, 20o now, and about the same forecast as thundley4. Piece of cake.
-
Fifteen degrees here, no wind.
It looks to be anywhere between seven and ten inches, with more on the way tomorrow (Saturday).
It's great.
-
We're already above freezing but not by much, just 33 degrees. I just hope we don't get any freezing rain on top the snow.
-
It's a very heavy, wet snow. I plowed it; took 2.7 hours for our driveway and a neighbor's.
THEN I accientally set off our house alarm from the remote on the keys in my pocket. I knew the deputy who showed up, but geez what a stupid thing to do. My wife, of course, is pissed at me.
-
I got about a foot of snow. Lots of shoveling!
-
Well the snow is already off the streets that have been plowed. It melted off since the sun came out but the temps are in the mid 20's here . more snow on Sunday into Monday. I have no idea on the amount but it is a 60% chance of snow coming down.

That is the same scenario in Des Moines. We got about 6 inches.
They say we could get another six in Sunday/Monday's storm.
The weathermen had me expecting a wintery apocalypse.

And all we really got was a mild snowstorm. Although it was a little tricky trying to drive last night. I got stuck behind two different accidents in WDM, just trying to get home.
