Did the Russian meteorite scare the crap out of you?

After all, it is not everyday that something so dramatic comes crashing out of the sky.

Or did you just find it interesting?

How can one help not feeling apprehensive or vulnerable with such an event?

Obviously, we tend to think this is the last one and the biggest one that will hit earth. We cannot imagine that there is something larger out there that is zeroing in on Earth even as we speak. It was a one-time event, we tell ourselves. But was it?

Was this only the warning sign for something much larger and much more dangerous to our environment?

No one wants to be alarmist in events like this but is it foolish to blow it off or to pretend it was not an historic event?

What are your feelings on the matter?

Big campfire, well worth reading in the original at the link above.

32. Scientific detachment

But this is exhibit A of why we need to fund the search and mapping of near earth objects, something Republicans are against, even if it is a minuscule part of the budget.

<<<suspects that if a meteorite fell on the oblate spheroid, it's bounce right back up into space.

33. Just wondering why Russia is so attractive to once-in-100-years meteors.

Co inky dink? I think (NOT).

39. Yeah, what are the chances that the biggest country in the world...

would have something like that happen twice?

Russia makes up just a bit less than 1/8th of the Earth's land mass, so the chances of 2 events that occur over land, happening over Russia is ~ 1 in 64.

36. To tell the truth, some of the discussion about the Russian meteorite scared the crap out of me...

Scared about something halfway around the world, that happened with no warning, after it was completely over?

Good Lord.  What a bunch of pussies.

So where does the cracked reporter get her facts?  She just makes them up as she goes along... :stoner:

I wonder if CNN is pondering whether global warming caused this.

Only God knows where Vlada Mitty gets her facts.

Otherwise, it's beyond the most cerebral human intelligence.

Well, she is the same size as one of those asteroids, and I'm a Conservative that's against the time and expense of mapping her vacuosity and density, so . . . does that count?

The all-knowing nadin knows every single thing in the universe EXCEPT the location of near earth objects? So there is something that nadin doesn't claim to know. I'm gobsmacked. Time for everyone to hang the riffles up because we've crossed the Rubicon.

Might as well add astrophysicist to the resume.

What a dipshit.  Oh, and nads?  Most of us "knuckle-dragging" conservatives served in the military...you ought to be familiar with what kind of math/science skills it takes to keep the rock hot and all that, aren't you dearest?

Now go check your milk.

Hmmm, I wonder who made this hole in the ground in Arizona:

Maybe it was Nads second or third bounce.............

We're too busy funding production of babies with no daddy other than government and trying to stop a degree or so of celsius temperatuture change that might or might not occur and might or might not be anything we're doing to fund something like a robust space program.

I think we should fund space programs, especially over the above mentioned.  Space programs have produced tangible benefits in science and technology.  It also would already have sensor capabilities that would let us know about any dangerous objects in our vicinity.

Because if you want to stop solyndras, it means you don't care about meteors.

What are we doing in space exploration?  Or has the whole thing been cancelled?

I heard that the big meteor that just passed us was found about a year ago by some novice astronomers.

Probably a bean burrito special in San Diego that year.

It's size is estimated to be about the same as the Canyon Diablo rock that blew out the Barringer Crater.
It would make a big mess, anyway you look at it.  :-)

Heh, DAT, beat me to it.  :lmao:

Remind me again who's cut funding to NASA?  Who is paying the Russians to haul our astronauts into space?

Perhaps you can explain to us who's turned the focus of NASA off of space and onto being a multi-culti Islam outreach group?

These ****ing people  :banghead:
