Happy Friday, I've been fired!

I got the old Donald Trump today. They were kind enough to insult me and give me a month to find something all in one breath. I guess I should be thankful for the time to find something but the way it was handled just chaps my ass.

I was told they needed to hire a "real" front-end developer. I've been maintaining and developing WordPress sites for one department most of the time I've been there. I guess they don't consider that "real" development.

the engineers, or at least pseudo-engineers, into some of those front end jobs. The whole field is in transition for lots of reasons that include political pressure on those H1B visas.
It's the employers' market, so they are forcing the price of talent/skills down. Paying less for more.
This country NEEDS the right to organize.

Hopefully you can file for your unemployment.
I get IT jobs all the time even though I have pretty much stepped out of the industry. They aren't in my state though. I have recent ones for Irving TX, Colorado Springs CO (I live in Denver), Harrisburg, PA and Reston, VA. Are they anywhere near you? (DU'ers can contact me if they want the info - I just collect 'em)
Comcast are hiring, so check it out..

Talk about being insulted. However, it turned out to be a good thing because the next job I got was, and still is, a much better situation.

I tried to quit my job last weekend and they wouldn't accept my resignation (no shit - things have been stressful at work and at home, so I emailed the owners of the company Saturday night - in the midst of a severe panic attack - and told them I couldn't continue since it's affecting my health. They told me I could quit if I wanted, but I'd be bailing on the company during a time of need. I sucked it up and told them I'd stay).
Were you under contract or were you a regular employee?

Oh really, if you are good at your job you may be transferred to another job in the company if they find you valuable. Can you multi task, know how to do other jobs then assigned to ? Have you been cross trained to fill in where you are needed ???? Did you start at the bottom and work your way up or show no interest in what others were doing.
Seems like the people that are hired for office jobs that just do their work but do not get involved in other factors of the company are the first to go. Those that show interest in the workings outside their given jobs, take an interest in the company as a whole and can be placed in another position when needed are the keepers.
Take a youngster that starts out as a shelf filler at a supermarket. He/ she watches the cashiers to see how they do their job. Watch the trucks that come in with the goods and sees how the the loading docks are handled, learn how to drive a fork lift or manually unload the trucks. Asks question from the manager of the store about how and why the store buys items, what is shelf space and why sellers have to buy it.
Sea works at a deli, the knowledge she has about everything from the temperature to the self life of a product , the safe handling of perishable goods and the constent cleaning of all things around the food is mind boggling. When a salad bar is brought in everything must be timed as to how long each item can remain in the open.
Multi task to keep a job, when things get hard and people laid off be able to jump into another job in the company. A book keeper that knows how to run a fork truck and unload items, The person who works the switch board knows how to work in Quality Assurance or has some knowledge of how to work security, they are keepers.

This was not a lack of business layoff but a firing for incompetence. Color me shocked that a DUchebag lost his job for that.
I was kind of hoping that it was a layoff and the owner went out to the parking lot looking at bumper stickers to see who to let go for their principles but this is not that.
In short, low IQer, you suck at your former job.

The shop I used to work at just shut down about a month ago. After they lost the contract that I had worked under they were able to limp through December. When nothing new came about with the new year, they were forced to consolidate into a smaller building and let go most of the people that worked there.
I'm getting work in fits and starts, it's just me and my dog right now. So far, I'm getting about 1 contract a month, the work keeps me busy for about 7 days with all associated activity. If I can make the work I'm doing steady, I'll be in good shape.
