At first I was neglectant to bring this over. I have never really heard of the primitive. But of course after a little searching here and on DU2 and 3 I found that she had a history of wanting pats on the back.

Waiting in lines....
I have this little "thing" that I do, from time to time.....while I'm waiting in lines.
Nah, it's nothing dirty. Sorry.
What I do is watch the people around me, particularly those in front of me, who are already being serviced in whatever line I'm in. Sometimes, you get a chance to make a difference in someone's life, while waiting in line. Or writing Death Row inmates.
Today, I was waiting in line at the license plate office, where you pay for your car tags. While I was in line, there was this older lady, sitting down in a chair, at the counter. Usually there are no chairs at these counters, because they are designed so that you walk up to them and pay your fees and get your tags for your car, and walk away. But this lady had to sit down; she had a cane, and I noticed that she had a really rough time trying to stand. She rocked out of a sitting position into a standing one, when she had to get up. She used the momentum of the rocking to get out of the chair. She really should have been in a wheelchair; it must have been agony to walk down the sidewalk and into the building and into the license office, and then back to her car.
Anyway, I noticed that she was the only one sitting down at the counter, and then I watched what was going on with her and the clerk. Apparently, she needed more money, to get her plates for her car than she had available on her ATM card. She only needed another $27.75, but when the clerk said this, the lady just put her head against the counter, in resignation. I could imagine her having to go through the whole process of getting up and getting back to the licence office again, when she had more money, to pay the whole fee. So, I piped up and said, "I'll take care of that for her, honey," and walked over and gave the clerk a fifty.
The clerk came over to me, as I was paying my own fees, and gave me my change from the fifty, and the lady who I had paid the fees for tried to get my address, and when that failed, she tried to get me to name a charity to give the money to, to pay me back. Then, as I was leaving, another gentleman, in work clothes, came up to me with a ten and tried to give it to me, to "cover some of the cost." I thanked them both, and declined, of course.
I am very rich, you see. Not rich in the sense of money, but rich in another sense.
You know what I mean.
Not much to say here, sounds true enough and it probably is. I am just perplexed that primitives always need pats on the back. I have done this kind of thing many times. I don't go post about it, hell I don't even tell any one else about it.

5. Not really.
You know, that $27 meant very little to me. I spend that on snacks. But, to that lady, it meant a lot. It was a bargain for me.
Either a Foodstamper or a 1%er.
Here ya go TH1onein:

My dog has a little "thing" she does, from time to time....think it's the same thing?

I guess not.

Only at the DUmp is it necessary to explain that the license plate office is the place she pays for her car tags.
blah, blah, blah...
So, I piped up and said, "I'll take care of that for her, honey,"
Great, sexist and patronizing at the same time! The feminist DUmmies wiill string her up for that. :whatever:
and walked over and gave the clerk a fifty.
DUmmy TheFunion just rubbed the collective DUmmy nose in the fact that she carries around a $50 bill that she can spend on public acts of kindness.
The clerk came over to me, as I was paying my own fees, and gave me my change from the fifty, and the lady who I had paid the fees for tried to get my address, and when that failed, she tried to get me to name a charity to give the money to, to pay me back. TheFunion missed the moral of her own story: a single act of charity helps two people, while the government helps none.

Yes, we know. Keep rubbing the DUmmy nose in your steaming pile of $50 bills.
Damn, that was a real Gift of the Magi moment. Brought a tear to my eye.

You can buy a lot of Cheetos with $27. TheFunion is a snacking machine!

You're very strange. The last thing I would think of was something "dirty" to do waiting in a line. What exactly are you thinking?
It's against my religion to tell anybody about any act of charity that I do. I find it embarrassing, these DUmp self-congratulatory threads they do. Doubly so if it's a fabricated tale, which they probably all are.

This.
It is written in the Bible (and should be common sense) that am act of charity be done privately, and not for accolades.
When I give, I tell my wife, no one else.

Definitely H5-worthy, and one is duly given.

Great, so now the broke old lady needs to figure out how to come up with more scratch to cover the $4.00/gal it costs for gas in this Oconomy. :(
-
:rotf: that was great!
-
So he gave the clerk a "fifty".....the old woman was still $27.25 short.

We always buy the stickers at our bank, that way we don't have to put up with the DMV.

I'll be damned. Been a long time since we heard from Melanie. Wonder if she has any new friends from death row. When it comes to whack jobs, Nads and Melanie run neck and neck. At least ol Mel had the guts to face us years ago. If she post more often, she be in the run for a DOTY.
