MOORHEAD — With the rapid spread of Buddhism in the western United States, boosted by increased immigration from Asia, Americans have begun to apply Buddhist principles to solve their everyday problems.

Although Buddhism has two major sects — Theravada and Mahayana — both agree on the crux of Buddhist philosophy based on the Four Noble Truths, the Noble Eightfold Path and the associated 12-factor formula of “conditioned genesis.”

This essay asserts that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution would not have passed muster if our founding fathers had recognized the Four Noble Truths as the undisputable truth.

The Noble Eightfold Path does not endorse weapons for individual protection or use of guns for pleasure hunting.

If you mention Christianity to support your view they will immediately condemn you, but any other religion is OK, especially if it condemns guns.  The post comes from their RKBA section so it gets slammed.  It is amazing that Skinner allows the RKBA forum over there.

When a soul suffers from sense-cravings to rob, kill and plunder then I shall release him from his suffering and send him on to his next rebirth cycle so as to allow him to progress towards enlightenment.

Predominantly-Buddhist countries don't seem to lack for mass slaughters, ethnic cleansings, and genocidal pogroms.

Funny how most Buddhist countries are ruled by brutal communists.

Background info:

If this is the Silverhair I think it is, back in 2004 when those of us at CU first started the B/W of DU forum, Silverhair was moling over at DU.  He did a great job, always walking them right up to the edge but never exposing himself.  Of course as libs do, they suspected he was a RWer, but they never could nail him  Finally enough of them convinced the admins they had enough and he was TS'd.

But I'll let Silverhair confirm that's who he is.

Yeah,  I seem to remember lots of pictures of Thiland with just piles of human skulls.  I guess they were building one of the pillars with those.

Yes, that was me.  However, I wasn't found out, I outed myself.  I had been invited to help them judge posts several times but always declined.  I decided that I wanted to let them know just how phony their whole system was so I outed myself.  I started a thread in which I revealed myself as a mole and watched the fun.  It was several hours before the pizza was delivered.

My new mole, started just after that, doesn't walk up to the edge.  Instead he watches for topics in which a large group of them are angry with their fellows and slips in with comments that at first sound liberal-left but are actually grounded in conservativism.  The current drone controversy over there is ripe hunting grounds.  The anger of their fellows provides me with the cover that I need, and I do have to sometimes post some standard liberal BS.

I think that was the 'killing fields' of Cambodia.

It happens.  Still, it's that part of the world.  A lot of people, so not too much respect for human life.

They know as much about buddhism as they know about Christianity.

Buddhism doesn't like war, but recognizes as a fact.  Therefore, a strong army under a good king (government) is accepted as necessary as a bad king (government) may have a strong army as well.

How does that apply personally?  A good father (or mother) should care for their family.  Logically, this extends to protecting their family.  If they are to protect their family, then they should avail themselves of the best means of doing so (strong army, good king) as a criminal may have that weapon (strong army, bad king).

Should they do violence in the process of caring for their family, the only result is that they would recycle upon their death and return again.

Of course, DUmmies read "the noble eightfold path" and didn't pay a bit of attention to the rest of it.

Ok, I thought it was you.  Hope all is well.  Hard to remember everything about what you did over there and how you got banned.  Also recall you like to gamble online.

I used to play online poker for a living.  But the Feds cracked down on the banks.  That and lots of "poker help" software became available so that winning was slower.  You win money, not so much on how good you are, but on what mistakes the others make.  With the software, they didn't make as many mistakes.

I am old enough now for SS plus I work as an unarmed security guard.

What do Buddism and firearms have in common?
Nothing.
As usual, DUmpmonkey tries to tie two completely unrelated things together.
That's so stupid.
