Meet The New Hero Of The Right-Wing: Dr. Benjamin Carson
The Wall Street Journal is even calling on him to run for President.
Dr. Benjamin Carson is now being heralded as a hero by the right-wing after his 27 minute speech at the National Prayer Breakfast last week where he criticized the new health care law and advocated for a flat tax. He has been on all of the right-wing media outlets since last week.
What we need to do is come up with something simple. And when I pick up my Bible, you know what I see? I see the fairest individual in the universe, God, and he’s given us a system. It’s called a tithe. . . . We don’t necessarily have to do 10% but it’s the principle. He didn’t say if your crops fail, don’t give me any tithe or if you have a bumper crop, give me triple tithe. So there must be something inherently fair about proportionality. You make $10 billion, you put in a billion. You make $10 you put in one. Of course you’ve got to get rid of the loopholes. Some people say, ‘Well that’s not fair because it doesn’t hurt the guy who made $10 billion as much as the guy who made 10.’ Where does it say you’ve got to hurt the guy? He just put a billion dollars in the pot. We don’t need to hurt him. It’s that kind of thinking that has resulted in 602 banks in the Cayman Islands. That money needs to be back here building our infrastructure and creating jobs.
Here’s my solution: When a person is born, give him a birth certificate, an electronic medical record, and a health savings account to which money can be contributed—pretax—from the time you’re born ‘til the time you die. If you die, you can pass it on to your family members, and there’s nobody talking about death panels. We can make contributions for people who are indigent. Instead of sending all this money to some bureaucracy, let’s put it in their HSAs. Now they have some control over their own health care. And very quickly they’re going to learn how to be responsible.

ETA: He goes on to say that "if a person can't contribute to their HSAs then strangers can donate". WTF? Charity is his solution to healthcare? Also, no one is trying to hurt the billionaire, we're trying to prevent hurting the middle class and poor. His tax system specifically hurts the middle class & poor, NOT the billionaire.
Yes you are trying to hurt the billionaires, that is your ultimate goal to hurt every rich person and make them poor so they can be as miserable as you oxygen thieves.

Any rational (I denounce myself) being would come away from this speech with a moment for re-evaluating ones position on these matters, their faulty, brain-dead worldview and their unshakable belief in magic beans.

Yes, the Bible talks about tithing but it says nothing about the poor tithing. In fact the Bible talks much more about charity and helping the poor and sick than it does about tithing.
Further, as a doctor, he should be stripped of his license. To suggest that even a generous HSA system would EVER be able to cover more than the most basic health care (e.g. annual checkups, immunizations and the occasional cold or flu visit) is absurd. There is only one way this could ever work and that would be if a doctor visit was never more than $10, a prescription not more than $20, a diagnostic test nor more than $20 and open heart surgery not more than $500.
When this buffoon comes up with a plan to make that happen I'll listen. Until then I suggest he keep his mouth closed.

1. The IRS projected costs for Zerocare ($20,000/year/family) is more than I have paid for my healthcare MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!! (I'm 54.) Let ME decide how to handle MY healthcare.
2. Get government the HELL out of healthcare, the costs WILL GO DOWN. Enter capitalistic competition, they will go down further.

Walmart already does that. $10 for a 90 day supply. Granted you might have to actually step foot into a Walmart to get the prescription but on the plus side they might have a sale on Cheetos that day.

WE like people that work for what they own, not those that take other's belongings with the help of the gov't. WE like any race as long as the individual acts like a responsible human being. I will admit I don't like ANYONE that doesn't adhere to basic social etiquette or the law.

I looked at that situation. I said, ‘Why is it that this is such a disaster?’ and it was because they would always exsanguinate. They would bleed to death, and I said, ‘There's got to be a way around that. These are modern times.’ This was back in 1987. I was talking to a friend of mine, who was a cardiothoracic surgeon, who was the chief of the division, and I said, ‘You guys operate on the heart in babies, how do you keep them from exsanguinating’ and he says, ‘Well, we put them in hypothermic arrest.’ I said, ‘Is there any reason that – if we were doing a set of Siamese twins that were joined at the head – that we couldn't put them into hypothermic arrest, at the appropriate time, when we're likely to lose a lot of blood?’ and he said, ‘No way .’ I said, ‘Wow, this is great.’ Then I said, ‘Why am I putting my time into this? I'm not going to see any Siamese twins.’ So I kind of forgot about it, and lo and behold, two months later, along came these doctors from Germany, presenting this case of Siamese twins. And, I was asked for my opinion, and I then began to explain the techniques that should be used, and how we would incorporate hypothermic arrest, and everybody said ‘Wow! That sounds like it might work.’ And, my colleagues and I, a few of us went over to Germany. We looked at the twins. I had to go to a Specialist a few weeks ago for something minor, I just got the EOB, the Specialist who spent all those years in Medical School and spent all that money, he got a check from the insurance company for $27.46 now you tell me how many Doctors are going to continue to accept that? Another Specialist we go to will no longer be taking HMO's unless they pay for out of network benefits, which most HMO's don't, and Internists who are not taking in new Medicare Patients, and most don't even accept Medicaid.

One thing that I realized about Dr. Carson is this: He's a profoundly humble man, from what I can gather. His demeanor and actions speak to his Christian faith, IMO. Anyone who says that tithes are good enough for government in front of the President is a good, decent, and upright man. (I think that, during Dr. Carson's speech, Obama was thinking, 'WTF? I asked him to speak for me, not to attack me.')
It's strange, that we here in the USA get this example of humility (and of courage in dealing with the hubris of Obama), and the next week, the world gets an example of the humility of Pope Benedict XVI. Think that there's a theme there? :???: :whistling:
