Oh dear.

My all-white cat has been out in the blizzard, can't find him!
He went out yesterday afternoon, but never came back for dinner. Now he's out there somewhere in the blizzard. I went out in the snow looking for him, But being solid white, it's needle/haystacky. And it's supposed to hit 2 degrees tomorrow.

12. I think he has a second family
He's taken off for a couple days before, but never in this kind of weather. And it's snowing so hard, food would be buried quickly. But thanks, everybody. I'll just keep checking for him.

38. He's a rescued feral cat, so he's got skills.
He'll need 'em tonight! I just went looking again...it's pretty bad, and the snow is already deep, so he likely wouldn't come running now anyway. Oh well. Warm thoughts for kitteh! Thanks again, everyone!

41. I saw an awesome shelter idea on FB
Using two plastic storage container. Place a smaller one inside a big one, and fill the gap with insulation (like foam panels or spray insulation. Line the inside box with hay or thick carpet. Cut a hole through both boxes and close up the top tightly, then put the box out someplace safe, and kitty [franksolich: :puke: ] has a nice little hotel room for those nights out.
Okay, but it's not like the evil twin pays attention to franksolich anyway.
franksolich has been a notorious owner of cats for years. franksolich is located way out in the middle of nowhere, in the Sandhills of Nebraska. franksolich has had cats disappear just before, and even during, raging blizzards (with 60 mph winds). franksolich has never lost a cat.
Since the evil twin's cat disappeared yesterday, it's possible it "sensed" a major storm was coming, and decided to seek out better shelter than Atman's home. Cats are funny that way, deserting a warm dry place with loads of chow and clean cat-litter, in favor of accommodations in the wild. I dunno why they do that, but they do.
The evil twin is wasting his time and energy going out trying to find the cat.
The cat will come back.
About the only thing the evil twin should do is clear out the snow around the house once it's done snowing. Cats don't handle deep snow very well. They handle it, yes, but it's a real challenge. Best to have "pathways" of some sort cleared, so they don't have to struggle so much.
But it's not like Atman listens to franksolich anyway.
On the other hand, if the all-white Atman goes out into the raging blizzard and disappears, I don't think any of us would mind very much.
-
I do know what it's like to worry about a cat though. We had one when my boys were little, a black cat...one of those "once in a lifetime" cats named Chester. He had such a great personality he was almost a herding dog. He disappeared for the longest time. Months and months. We were all sad, even my husband who generally only tolerates them because I'm a cat person. Damndest thing...heard a cat meowing at the door Christmas morning, opened the door and here was Chester. Walked in the house like he'd only been gone a few minutes. He never left again and lived to be a ripe old age.

I think the evil twin's too overwrought with worry.
He mentioned the cat was once a feral cat, so it's not out in anything it hasn't been out in before.
Cats are pretty smart, and I'm sure this cat has a higher IQ than Atman does.

I guess it could have left to seek better shelter. Or, as cats cover up their excrement and this cat could see no way to cover up Atman, he decided to find a litter box without a large, walking pile of excrement.

I'm not so much worried about the cat--the cat's smart, the cat can take care of itself--as I am about the evil twin wandering around in the blizzard.
Just because I pray a tree or power line falls on the brain-damaged primitive, putting him out of his misery, doesn't mean I want anything bad to happen to other primitives who are less of a waste of skin than the wretched miserable brain-damaged primitive.
The evil twin doesn't listen to franksolich, but I hope that while he's outside in the storm, he's got a 500' length of rope with him, one end tied to the front door and the other around his waist, so he doesn't get lost.
-
That's because you're such a nice guy, frank. The nicest guy anyone would ever want to meet. You're always trying to be charitable to the primitives.
I've tried to follow your lead in this regard, but it only lasts until I read the next post from DU. Then "POOF". Away goes my charity and good will. In regard to Atman and his cat, if a cat and an Atman were both trapped in a blizzard and I could save only one, I would have to say, "here, kitty, kitty!"
I guess I'm just way down near the bottom of the nicest guy anyone would ever want to meet list. At least when it comes to the DUmmies I think I'm above GOBUCKS on the list. :-)

I just went looking again...
IOW he cracked the door and called the cat's name a couple of times before quickly shutting it.
I'm with txradio, I think the cat make a break for it.

I just checked; the evil twin doesn't seem to have found the cat yet, but it's w-a-a-a-a-y too early to be concerned; after all, maybe it's still blizzarding in eastern Connecticut.

I hope Toast's cast comes back okay. Cats are fairly resilient. I remember in the 1990s after an earthquake somewhere they found a cat weeks later who only had a little water for two weeks or something. It was a Drudge headline.

I just checked again, to see if the evil twin's reported the cat's safe and sound.
No report.
According to the weather maps, the snow's all done in Connecticut, no more problems, so I'm confident the cat will come home soon.

Chester disappeared for months and months but then came back on Christmas morning? What a heartwarming story. You should pitch it to a Hollywood movie studio.

Yeah it was really weird but I don't think it's worth a movie. My youngest son kept praying and praying Chester would come back and just knew he'd come back. We tried to tell him that sometimes God answers our prayers differently than we expect but he knows what's best for us and those we love. He was determined God would bring him home and my husband and I were bracing for disappointment. Reality suggested the odds were against Chester. But we were wrong and our little boy was right. Of course, that alone would prevent Hollywood from buying it. If it was Gaia who brought him home it would be different.

71. Sadly, no, he hasn't turned up yet.
We built him a shelter while we were shoveling, though.
Give him time.
He's a cat; it's not as if he's concerned that you're worried about him.
He'll show. In his own time.

Well, I said the oblate spheroid was drunk; couldn't remember who lost the cat.
<<<even if sordidly drunk, would still be able to differentiate between the evil twin and the truemud primitive.
Anyway, here it is, the middle of the night, and no cat yet. But still too early to worry.

he'll be home soon.
Even if he got lost, he'll find his way home.
I used to worry about my doggies [ :puke: ] and my ex-wife's kitties [ :puke: ] when we wouldn't see them for a while, especially when things outside were abnormal. They'd always show up looking like "why were you worried? I'm hungry".

Ding,Ding, something just don't sound right here.
Said cat was a feral cat at one time, now a house pet. How did said cat get out of the house and run into a raging blizzard??
Odd behavior for any cat to not hunker down in the warmth of home, barn or outside wood pile. Never had a cat that would deliberately run out of the house in the rain or thunder storm much less a snow storm.
Was this cat fixed, a Tom or a female in heat ????? My female ran out the door as a kitten after the vet said she was too young to have fixed. Yup she came home in a few hours and guess what, she was prego. Vet was surprised when I brought her in to be fixed 2 months later to find she was carrying 4-5 baby's.
What to do, an abortion bothered me so we decided to allow her to give birth and then fix her. She gave birth at night and came scratching on the bedroom door yowling, one baby was stuck and we had to remove it. All 5 baby's were dead or Mal formed. The Vet said it may have been because she was so young or she had gotten into some kind of poison while on her run away. We do live near a garage and she may have walked through spills of antifreeze, not enough to kill her. The vet said cats do not taste sweet, so any poison had to have been on her paws she licked off.
Cats, never know with them, some go away for years and out of the blue come home. Same as human relatives that come a knocking after years of no contact, flat broke and using the blood line to get free room and board.

Oh now vesta dear, apparently you haven't handled feral cats.
<<<a pro at handling feral cats and dogs.
According to my evil twin, the cat was feral, rescued, and domesticated; it was probably shot and neutralized too, which would've tamed it considerably, besides keeping it safe from diseases.
However.
Some things, one can't take out of a cat. And a cat can't help being a cat.
I can very well see where this cat, sensing a catastrophic storm coming on, reverted to its feral instincts and went out to find a safe haven, as a cat might not consider a safe haven provided by humans as "safe" enough.
The blizzard's apparently over now in Connecticut, and so it's probably safe for Atman to go out and look every so often, but to be honest, while one hopes the cat's okay, if the evil twin were to fall through the ice covering the lake near his home, humanity would hardly be disheartened.
-
Atman, why do you have such a racist cat?
-
Well, here it is, 4:00 p.m. central time, 3:00 p.m. mountain time, Sunday, and no cat yet.
And the primitives stopped commenting (i.e., caring) a very long time ago.
It seems as if only decent and civilized people from here care any more.
There should be a lesson in this for the evil twin, but he's too stupid to see it.

Most likely that's because he made up the cat story so he could get in on the snowstorm whining.

I think that the cat took the opportunity to make a break for it using the snow storm as cover to put as much distance between itself and Atman as possible.
-
Maybe this cat will turn up at Easter, like Cindie's did for Christmas. You DUmmies might try praying for a miracle instead of sending good vibes and healing white light and pictures of hands. I do hope the poor, lost kitty returns; it is heartbreaking to lose a beloved pet. :bawl:

I wonder, since Rob has been unemployed for nearly a year now, if he has cut back on the cat's rations.
It's no problem for the family to live off the income of Mrs. Picasso - they always have.
But maybe most of Pedro's income from Mission Control was earmarked for cat food.
That, and perhaps their natural gas bills in July-August would have consumed Pedro's income as the third-rated cartoon boy in a department of three.
But since Mission Control shitcanned Pedro, maybe the cat has gone hungry.
Cats don't hang around out of loyalty.

He could be kicking back on a warm feather pillow somewhere while some little girl feeds him tuna flakes and grapes and scratches just the right places.
Anyway, I hope he comes home soon.
Actually, the cat's probably in a hole somewhere, at least dry and warm, and heartily subsisting on mice, if there's mice in Connecticut.
When the cat gets back, franksolich suggests his evil twin give it a deworming pill.

The Atman Cat Update, Tuesday, circa 7:45 a.m. central time, 6:45 a.m. mountain time.
Nothing new to report, and the primitives seem to have walked away from that campfire, not caring any more.
We here on the other hand care a great deal.
About the cat, not its owner, who can go pound sand, or be run over by a big semi-truck, or something.
I've been thinking about this, and based upon my own experiences with lost cats, I think the time the evil twin should start losing sleep over the absent cat would be about the time he's going to that big sold-out country-and-western concert, or two days before franksolich's birthday.
Until then, I wouldn't worry; after then, I'd start to worry.

As of circa 2:00 central time, 1:00 p.m. mountain time, Tuesay, no.
And the primitives, whom the evil twin misadvertised as "caring" and "compassionate," don't seem to have cared for quite a while now. The campfire's nearly out, and shoved w-a-a-a-a-y back from the front page of Skins's island.
While here in the DUmpster, it remains prominently on the first page, everybody worried for the cat.
I figure I'll start worrying if it doesn't show by March 4, the day of that "sold-out" country-and-western concert, which would be a little less than a month after the cat went away. Others' mileage may vary, but that's been my experience in missing cats.

My experience with intact male cats tell me...
1) It's a bad idea to try to make them indoor only cats. (It can be kinda stinky)
2)They go on a road show for well over a month sometimes.
3) When they do show up they are usually beat to flinders.
4) The weather doesn't seem to matter much, especially if they have to "escape" in order to start the road show.

That is true.
We used to have a white male tomcat.
Once after a two or three week tour of the township, he came home so chewed up, he crawled behind some shrubbery and just lay there for a couple of days. I thought he was dead. Then finally he snapped out of it and was back to normal, except for some new battle scars and a funny looking ear.

But this cat, like Atman, is neutralized; can't be a tom any more.

DUmpmonkey Rob just wanted to kill off his stupid bouncy cat thread.
I have considered that as a possibility, because the evil twin doesn't like being publicized in the DUmpster; maybe there's really a cat, and the cat's still missing, but Atman's embarrassed by the Atman Cat Watches, and wants to kill this thread by claiming the cat came back, hence no need for franksolich to post any more Atman Cat Watches.
Atman really doesn't like being featured here--but there's an easy way to keep that from happening.
All Atman has to do is quit being stupid, and I can guarantee his name won't be mentioned here again.
