So this morning I had no audio on my TV...

I tried to reboot, which often works for other problems. Nope. Called U-verse and tried their re-boot. Then talked to a person. He took me thru a lot of things to try to fix the problem...pulling out sound cables from the back of the vcr box, other maneuvers that required hubby to come in and help as I had to hold a flashlight to see behind the vcr...all this went on for ONE HOUR...then the ATT person gave up and said they''d send me another vcr by UPS, no charge. Fine.

One hour later I come downstairs to make brunch and hubby has TV on with SOUND! Thrilled, I praised him for fixing the problem!

Uh, it seems that he had suddenly remembered that last night he had (for some reason) reduced the sound to 0, fell asleep in front of the tv and when he woke up to go upstairs forgot to restore the sound level...So...

Don't ask why he didn't just "mute" the sound (I already did, he doesn't know why). Good question as to why the ATT guy didn't ask either...

Sometimes I think it is scary to live in my house...

You know, every time I have an electronic gadget that isn't working, the first thing I do is.....check the controls and settings.

Is this wrong?

1. !

There is a silver lining to it ! you will most likely get a upgraded version of the vcr ! sometimes an accident isn't necessarily an accident !

2. No. I thought about that and reconsidered. Better to just cancel the new box without going into an embarrassing explanation. It's all good, hubby just got off the phone with ATT and we're square. They're also upgrading our Internet speed starting next week (no charge...for now at least).

3. Some days, I swear the moon is in the House of Klutz and I leave any electronic or mechanical problems strictly alone until I'm having a better day.

Likely you would have discovered the problem had you waited until a good night's sleep had put your brain in gear.

4. well, since hubby did it and I didn't, my own "moon" wouldn't have given this answer...

I think because we "assume" the "mute" situation, we don't automatically go to the lowest volume setting situation. I swear I don't know why hubby thought to do that, and he doesn't either!

There are just irrationalities in our lives...and actually, he was the one to try to increase the volume, even tho he didn't know why he lowered it to zero...go figure...

You know, every time I have an electronic gadget that isn't working, the first thing I do is.....check the controls and settings.

Is this wrong?

But I repeat myself.....

No, but I would like for it to be.

Round up all the liberals and send them there, or into the Sun, either way,  it's a win/win.   :-)

Could be the mute button or if not just unplug the television for 30 seconds.

The ATT guy didn't think to ask if the volume was turned off so CTyankee seems to think that ATT is equally at fault.

Sherlock Holmes has nothing on Mr. CTyankee.

That story reminds me of a health scare that I had this morning.  I was just standing in the kitchen drinking a cup of coffee when I felt a sharp pain in my eye.  I thought that I might be suffering a stroke or maybe from inflamed tear ducts so I went to the emergency room where they discovered that I had forgotten to take the spoon out of the coffee mug.

So where there was no sound, she didn't just hit the Volume Up button?

How stupid do you have to be if you don't have sound from the tee vee to not try turning the volume up?
That would be the first thing I would try.

Years ago, back when computers were a bit simpler and I knew a little about them, I was the one who kept up the computers at the office and at my boss's house.

One day the boss's wife called the office and said that her printer wouldn't work so at lunch I rode out to their house to check it out. I asked her if she had it turned on, and she got mad. She informed me that she was NOT an idiot. I apologized and sat down at the computer.

Sure enough. She did have it turned on, and it wouldn't work. Within a couple of minutes I had it up and running. When I told her it that it was ready for her to use she asked me what I had to do to fix it. I told her I just had to plug it's power cord into the electrical outlet. I didn't remind her about the idiot comment.

That is why tech support always asks a bunch of stupid questions because people are stupid.  :-)

They were going to send her a new vcr? Do they even make them anymore?

Sounds like an average day at work for me.

After we'd spent a few years living in a Pam Dawsonesque starter house, we had our first new home built.

I bit the bullet and paid for premium appliances, so I was a little upset after we moved in and the first time using it the dishwasher wouldn't run.

I called the builder, and he said he'd come out first thing in the morning to take a look, and would replace it if necessary.

He showed up as promised and looked at the dishwasher for a few seconds.

Then he walked over, flipped a wall switch beside the sink, and the dishwasher came to life.

I'd never seen a dishwasher with an on/off switch on the wall. I installed the one at our first house, and wired a wall outlet for it.

Felt dumb as hell.

Such an epitome of the leftist vision of the world.

Simple problem, very simple problem, staggeringly simple problem - liberal doesn't think to try the most obvious solution, demands help, then when in staggeringly simple solution to the staggeringly simple problem is given, liberal blames everybody else for her stupidity.
