Dell in $24 Billion Deal to Go Private

Dell announced on Tuesday that it had agreed to go private in a $24.4 billion deal led by its founder and the investment firm Silver Lake, in the biggest leveraged buyout since the financial crisis.

Under the terms of the deal, the buyers’ consortium, which also includes Microsoft, will pay $13.65 a share in cash. That is roughly 25 percent above where Dell’s stock traded before word emerged of the negotiations of its sale.

I just realized that it has been a long time since I have seen a Dell commercial on TV.  We've had 3 Dell desktops and one laptop and never really had any complaints about them.

The opened two manufacturing facilities here in the 90s.  I think one of them is closed (they did laptops) and are now offering IT support services.  Last I heard, they were doing support for the National Guard out of that location.

Dells have been the most reliable pieces of equipment I've ever owned. We just bought my wife's second one, and I'm in process of buying my second - a Precision M6700 mobile workstation (http://www.dell.com/us/soho/p/precision-m6700/pd?ST=dell%20precision%20m6700&dgc=ST&cid=76663&lid=4395446&acd=sfpBJXkV2).

I wish Dell nothing but a long and profitable future, much the same as their equipment has made possible for me.

I've had a couple of Dells. They were good machines for the price.

The question is how much debt will the new company be saddled with.  Historically that is the problem with this sort of thing.
