Chris Kyle ran a nonprofit that provided fitness equipment for wounded veterans.
All gun deaths are tragic - all of them - unless, it seems, it gives one the chance to gloat.

"Live by the sword, durr hurr," was a sentiment repeated several times in that shitstain of a thread. According to that logic, every person who has ever served in the military should expect to die/deserves to die by violence?
So many righteous people talking big behind their anonymous screen names.

5. There's good and bad in all
of us. He also didn't think the President was the moving force that got Bin Laden. A right wing leaning man who killed for a living. I respect his service, however, he was misled by war mongers in the govt. I'm sorry he had to do such horrible things in the name of the USA.

"Full Metal Jacket" (the last 30 minutes) if you don't think snipers murder. Don't want to spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it, so I'll leave it at that.
Oh wait, if a sniper does it on a battlefield, it doesn't qualify as 'murder'? But if a sniper is killed on a gun range it is 'murder'?
Kyle was an asshole who sought to profit from having taken others' lives BY WRITING A BOOK ABOUT IT. Jeesh. Most decent combat vets don't like to discuss the casualites they inflicted, much less brag about it.

Perhaps if any of you ****tards had read Chris Kyle's book, you'd know (as does anyone who has been to the sandbox) that ANY shooting is subject to investigation by JAG authorities, so that every time he pulled the trigger, he documented (and had witnesses) to EVERYTHING.
Cold-blooded murder? Hardly. As he said, and as have others I've spoken to first-hand, it's not worth it. They let someone walk far more often than they'll pull the trigger.

It's only murder on a battlefield when it is outside of the ROE and violates the Geneva Convention. Otherwise once you are cleared to engage it's a whole different story. It's not like being a sniper is a new idea either. The military has used them since the days of Napoleon if not earlier and the job and the rules only get tougher

Yup--earlier. British Brigadier General Simon Fraiser, probably the most capable commander serving under Major General John Burgoyne at Saratoga, was shot by a rifleman "up in a tree" during the second battle (7 October 1777). Many say that the rifleman's name was Timothy Murphy, but that name came 68 years later.

I'd consider a rifleman "up in a tree" a "sniper."

One of the most famous Snipers in the Revolutionary war was Major Patrick Ferguson, who was under lord general Cornwallis. He described in his diary a shot that he had lined up as a marksman on a Colonial officer. He did not take the shot, since the man had his back him and was unaware of his presence. The colonial officer in question was General George Washington. The 'Shot Not Taken' is taught in sniper school to this day.

Ferguson also invented a breechloading rifle that was rather innovative, but it really wasn't used much.
Also, the "up in a tree" story about Fraiser was from Fraiser himself, told to an aide as he lay dying.
