In defense of noble Alaska ptarmigan
http://www.alaskadispatch.com/article/defense-noble-alaska-ptarmigan

The noble ptarmigan. Finally, someone who cares about ptarmigans. Rabbits, gyrfalcons, ermines, magpies, and ground squirrels are filthy vermin worthy of exterminating. The freaks that they all are. Their days are coming and God will unleash His violent wrath on them for their crimes. Rabbits, gyrfalcons, ermines, magpies, and ground squirrels are doomed.

Uhh, why have they not learned to build a nest in a tree, are there no trees where they are?

Ptarmigans are ground dwellers. There are not many trees in the tundra.

No trees above the timber line? How can that be?

Ptarmigans are ground dwellers. They can be seen on trees.

Oh, I also noticed that they get eaten by quite a lot of different species, I suppose that it is a noble act to donate all that protein to their neighbors.

It would be a noble act if all those species were exterminated as the vermin they are.  :fuelfire: :yahoo:

They look sorta like pigeons, that is if you ignore the nose flaps and fuzzy legs and whatnot.

Pigeons must be noble too.

Doesn't look like a pigeon to me. Anyways, ptarmigan is not related to pigeon. Some pigeons are bred to feathery feet.

I couldn't help but notice that the ptarmigan is on the ground and the pigeons seem to be on the side of a cliff.

Damn sneaky pigeons!

Those pigeons have some pretty colors, too.
