Title: Russert upset with MSNBC 'activist" Olbermann?
Post by: TheSarge on June 05, 2008, 12:41:15 PM
Tonight may be the last of the primaries, but the discussion of the cable news coverage will no doubt continue for months to come. MSNBC has bore the brunt of much of the criticism, from a candidate, a competitor, and many voices in between. Now, TVNewser speaks with a high level source inside MSNBC, who sheds light on some of the inside rumblings.

> Update: NBC News SVP and MSNBC exec in charge Phil Griffin responds...

MSNBC has drawn criticism from pundits from both parties, other journalists and the White House, for the perceived, and often obvious, leftward shift of their lead political anchors Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann.

"Every Tuesday night Keith is up there as the face of NBC News. That's a problem," says our source. "[Tim] Russert is upset about it. Russert has spent 20 years building credibility. All of a sudden he's taking questions from Keith Olbermann, the Daily Kos blogger?"

The insider says Olbermann's election night partner has reservations as well: "Chris Matthews is quite pissed about it. He knows a lot about politics and he takes it seriously. He's so close to it that he's not that political. He's not an activist — Keith's an activist. That's the difference."

saying that chris mathews is "not that political" is either deranged or dishonest.  but at least he didn't make his splash as an anchor on sportcenter. that certainly doesn't make for much of an expert background in politics.

But in fairness, compared to Olberman, Matthews is Margret Thatcher. Olberman is the single nuttiest wackjob on the air. I think he's to the left of Lenin.

Didn't Chris Matthew admit to being a Clinton supporter one night?  Yes, I believe he did.

Yes but Chrissie also boasts that listening to Obama speak gives him a "chiil up his leg."

i liked the part of the article where it says, "KO beat FOX news four times in two weeks"

i just saw some ridiculous headline somewhere that said "FOX news beats all others for 45th month in a row" or something like that.. either way, I have never seen KO and dont watch Mathews cause he interrupts everyone too much. I'm not sure why they even gave him a panel.. he never lets them speak.

CM is worth watching because he is the only host of a political discussion show that will still have the violently insane lawrence o'donnell on his show.  when you put those two together, you are guaranteed to see either a stroke or an aneurysm.  sometimes, you get both.

No what MSNBC is doing is a lie by omission.

When they are beating O'Reilly is on the RE-RUNS of The Factor at like Midnight or 2am.

They aren't beating them head to head on the first run episodes.
