Guns should not be kept in houses where children are present
I don't care how careful you are, we are all human, and we all make careless mistakes from time to time. Whether it's finding a set of keys, carelessly leaving the gun unlocked, or just sheer brute force, kids/teenagers manage to get ahold of guns all the time.
Perhaps gun ranges, National Guard armories, etc could set up a system whereby a gun owner could store their firearms and access them when they want to go hunting, target shooting, etc. Guns would be much safer from theft in these places, as these places tend to have very good security systems. You wouldn't have to worry about your kids somehow getting ahold of your gun and shooting themselves or someone else. You don't have to worry about little Johnny finding your gun and taking it to school for show-and-tell with his friends.
As far as home defense goes, if you have children in your house, you stand a much better chance of your kids getting ahold of your gun than you do some intruder breaking in.
Same thing would go for households with a resident who is mentally unstable, such as Adam Lanza. If you know that someone in your house is mentally unstable, you should NOT be keeping guns there.

Tell you what DUmmy, ban all guns in your own house, the rest of us will make up our minds whether we have guns or not.
How about we make a law saying that every house with a gun inside is required to post a sign on the front door warning people that we have guns, and every house with no guns you post a sign saying "Gun Free Zone". Then after 30 days we will compare notes and see which houses are safer, if you survive that is.

To which I respond, "". I tell her I'll just get more safes to keep them in.
Nope hugabear has decided that you can't have a gun.
Hugabear (9,634 posts)
3. You do know that safes are not foolproof
Keys can be left around or copied.
Combinations can be found.
Guns can be accidentally left unlocked outside of the safe.
Fact is, there are far too many children who somehow manage to get ahold of guns to take that risk.
You convinced me Hugabear, while we are at it, how many kids get a hold of bleach every year? How many kids get injured with steak knives? How many kids OD on the Percocet that their stoned DUmmy parents left out after the last bender? We need to ban anything in houses that could injure a person in any way. :mental:
I am convinced that the reason everything has warning labels for stupid people is because of the liberals in the world. The rest of us sane decent folks know not to make toast in the shower.

FIFY.

One thing you'll never hear the primitives calling for is a ban prescription drugs inside of a house where children are present.
-
When I was a kid, we never had alcohol in the house.
That would save a lot more lives.

At the DUmp father of the year is reserved for those that get stoned with their teenage sons on a Friday night.

How about knives, hammers, axes, baseball bats? It's not the instrument, it's the frighten lunatic holding it. Dumb :censored:

I've had guns in my home since before my kids were born. Both are now young adults. One is still living at home and knows how to use my guns and the other is presently killing afghanis with guns I wish I could play with.
I think we're doing just fine without DUmmie intervention, thanks.

Don't forget chainsaws.
You primitives will have to pry my Stihl out of my cold dead hands before I'll give it up. You'll be missing a few major body parts in exchange, though.

A ten-year-old boy left home alone with his sister used his mother's gun to shoot an intruder in the face, police said.
...
The two children ran to their mother's bedroom closet.
...
Once the two suspects opened the door, threatening the kids, deputies say the boy fired a bullet into the lip of Roderick Porter.

I'll bet ol' Roderick had trouble saying his name after that.

Maybe instead of the above it should have been like this:
Hello, I am Hugabear. I've been told that at one time I was smart. That I was productive. That I didn't lick the windows on the short bus. I don't remember that time now. There's a lot a don't remember…I forgot what I don't remember.
One time I was smart, but then I hugged a bear. Bears do not like to be hugged. Bears are dangerous, but we can not ban bears because bears are bears. Do not you just want to hug a bear? But I don't think you should because of something. I forgot.
One time I was smart. Knives hurt people. We are all people. Knives will hurt us because we are people. Knives hate people like bears hate hugs. Perhaps knives could be kept at a knife storage place away from people. But people would have to watch over the knives and knives hurt people. I forgot what I was going to say.
One time I was smart. Your kids are people. If they were at a knife storage place they would be there. A knife could hurt them. Maybe it could. I don't remember…
I was smart one time. I wish I could hug a bear again, but you should not hug a bear. For some reason. If someone is at your house who is unstable you should keep all objects away from them. Why do I not have any objects around me? Oh, I wish I could hug a bear.

Great idea too bad it won't happen

Well hugabear has conviced me.
Hugabear should not breed because S/h/it is to irresponsible to own anything that could ever hurt a child. I would allow S/h/it to have a child if S/h/it would volunteer to create and live in a Nerf world with nothing in it to harm a child. BUT then I took into account the choking hazards of Nerf and sorry hugabear, you breeding can just not be allowed. Sorry.

Agreed. I will store my guns in a armory as soon as a fence is put around every pond, lake and ocean to prevent kids from drowning.
-
He's right, you know......guns should be kept in your hand, your holster, your pocket, your car, your truck, your shop, your tool box................................
....and I should take my own advice.
-
How about knives, hammers, axes, baseball bats? It's not the instrument, it's the frighten lunatic holding it. Dumb :censored:
Exactly. About a year ago, some 18-year old dipshit decided he'd break into a neighbor's house and beat the adults to death with a baseball bat. A couple of years back, a group of teens, just for kicks, broke into a home, knifed a woman to death, and stabbed/cut an 11-year old so badly she lost her leg and is maimed for life.
So yeah, not buying it. Guns do not have a soul. Only the person behind it does-or doesn't.

Of course not! They should learn all about firearms from leftist Hollyweird actors, not their parents! :whatever:

Funny, I found that teaching my children safety, proper shooting, how to safe and clear weapons, what firearms would do to another human being, and a healthy dose of fear if they ever attempted to take a firearm out of my house has been a better deterrent to them acting like idiots. Then again, my children are raised with standards and discipline...

Yeah, because armory thefts never happen (https://www.google.com/search?q=theft+of+weapons+from+amories&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=VF6&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&spell=1&q=theft+of+weapons+from+armories&sa=X&ei=gF8BUdWJCbOQ0QHh3IC4AQ&ved=0CC8QvwUoAA&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.41248874,d.dmQ&fp=94e32a4cea89f529&biw=1280&bih=693), do they, DUmbass?
As far as home defense goes, if you have children in your house, you stand a much better chance of your kids getting ahold of your gun than you do some intruder breaking in.
Considering my children that are over the age of 13 are very good shots and know where the guns are, I would say the idiot breaking into my home would have all the guns he could ever want - as long as he didn't mind staring down the barrel of them.
Same thing would go for households with a resident who is mentally unstable, such as Adam Lanza. If you know that someone in your house is mentally unstable, you should NOT be keeping guns there.
Having an uninstitutionalized, mentally unstable person in my home would be cause for me to wear a sidearm pretty much all day long.

What an opportunity for obama to just close the armory, with all of the guns inside, denying you your gun. Confiscation without the door to door search.
-
You have to love how dumb ass wants the National Guard to store privately owned weapons in their buildings which would require someone to be there on weekend and holidays. And why would anyone them do that without pay and the other cost that would go with it. And what about the Holidays? The Guard gets them off just like any other Government employees and if your talking about making hem work then just keep adding to the cost of making it work and the taxes that will need to cover it. Oh and BTW it's the State taxes that will go up not the Federal taxes.

When my Nana was growing up boys would even bring their rifles to school so they could go hunting on the way home from school. They had to leave them in the back of the classroom with their coats but interestingly enough there weren't any school shootings. Of course, they didn't have "high capacity magazines" (except maybe Boy's Life) so there's that...
But, Hugabutt, answer me this question, and you can answer over there since not one of you will have the balls to come over here and participate in this conversation. I live out in the country. The railroad tracks are so close to my house I could reach out and touch the train (freight train) when it goes by. It goes by twice a day. There have been times when some trashy looking guy has jumped off the train and tried to meander down my driveway. The odds of a county Sheriff being close enough to my house to get here in time to help me when I dial 911 are slim to none. Were I to decide your beyond stupid, utterly asinine "belief" was a flash of brilliance and got rid of my guns because my grandchildren & nieces & nephews come and visit who would protect them were some crazed idiot were try something when they're here?
So far, walking outside with a couple of dogs and a shotgun gets them off my property quite promptly. What the hell would you suggest I do instead, come outside flashing a filet knife?

Yeah...one of the English kings, in the 1600s, I believe, did that with all the gold. Once it was all locked up for 'Safekeeping' it was seized.

We never had alcohol in the house either nor did we have a single unloaded gun. The rack was right by the back door leading to the barn and each and every gun in it was loaded. That was one of the very first things I remember learning as a child. Do not touch the guns. We lived on a farm where it was often necessary to use one on a moment's notice. Foxes and hen houses, deer and corn, rats and feed bins. While there may not have been a round in the chamber there were rounds in the magazine ready to go. The .22 pistol was an exception but it only had rat shot. :whatever:

I wonder; if I sent video of my son handling the weapons in my home - and being able to do it simply by ASKING to do so - to HugaBoy, would he have a heart attack and die of apoplexy?
Amazing how much safer a child is around firearms when the firearms AREN'T "forbidden fruit", ain't it DUmbasses? :o

Interesting that you mention that part.
About a decade ago, there were some rather nasty murders taking place in Texas.
Turns out the dirtbag was riding the rails. Without naddining, I want to say Rodriguez or something, as the name.

Excellent point. I was never allowed a loaded gun in the house, but I could shoot outdoors all I wanted as long as Dad was with me.
And when we were little, we were allowed unlimited playing with matches, as long as an adult was with us. I don't recall ever having much desire to play with matches.

Richard Ramirez. He was also called the Night Stalker (though there was another Night Stalker before him). Serial killers are an interesting (if sick & twisted) breed. I followed his case because he was so warped. Then again, I watch Investigation Discovery all the time. In another life I would've loved being a criminal profiler but ended up corraling boys instead.

No, the 'Railroad Killer' was a completely different, more recent guy. His name was Resendez, from what I found on line he was executed in 2006. The Night Stalker had nothing to do with hopping freights.
