Obama calls for ‘collective action’

In his second inaugural address, President Obama argued that now is the time to address climate change and defended entitlement programs that have been targeted for cuts.
“We are made for this moment, and we will seize it – so long as we seize it together,” he said.
Our current challenges, he argued, call for “collective action.”
“We have never relinquished our skepticism of central authority, nor have we succumbed to the fiction that all society’s ills can be cured through government alone,” he said. “But we have always understood that when times change, so must we; that fidelity to our founding principles requires new responses to new challenges; that preserving our individual freedoms ultimately requires collective action.”
Obama defended entitlement programs that Republicans hope to reform as part of deficit-reduction cuts.
“The commitments we make to each other – through Medicare, and Medicaid, and Social Security – these things do not sap our initiative; they strengthen us,” he said. “They do not make us a nation of takers; they free us to take the risks that make this country great.”
He promised action on the climate, saying, “We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations.”
Obama also pledged his commitment to equal pay for women as well as equal rights for gay Americans and voting reforms to avoid long lines at the polls. And he said touched on immigration reform, declaring that “our journey is not complete … until bright young students and engineers are enlisted in our workforce rather than expelled from our country.”

5. Collective action...like the Occupy Wall Street movement, which is beaten and jailed.

While "tea party" people get to strut around with rifles and racist placards.

What is it about law abiding peaceful people the left can't stand? The Tea Party was very peaceful with no one shitting on cop cars, there were no rapes and no destruction of public property. Yet the DUmmies think they should be in jail. Meanwhile the Owies were doing illegal things and they are mad that they got arrested for breaking laws.

20. And around here, at least for a while, "our" Occupy was the Tea Party. nt

Nope, not me but the wife did interrupt my nap a couple of times to tell me what he said or to tell me his littlest crumb snatcher couldn't sit still and that the mother in law never smiled.

I was busy scrubbing the ceiling-tiles, and so missed it.

Don't worry with those ceiling tiles.....4 more years of Cloward-Piven to the max and we'll all be living in the woods.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong, and it makes no sense.  Besides, those three programs, while needing reform against the marauding fraud, aren't what sticks in my craw.  We pay into those.  It's the endless couch-welfare programs that end up putting $60K into some welfare queen's pocket while she watches TV.  They don't free us to take risks.  It breeds deep resentment amongst those of us providing the money.  Not just a safety net, but a comfortable hammock, swaying in the breeze.  Month after month, year after year.

DUmmies, this is what people are talking about around kitchen tables and bars.

Did Barack Milhous remind the primitives, "ask not what your country can do for you, but rather ask what you can do for your country" thing?

Great, you primitives enjoy your "collective action."  I'll be over here doing things on my own and making out a lot better than you ever will.

Yes, how about the primitives and those who believe like they do live in their own little socialist paradise, and those of us who actually pay taxes and provide for ourselves get to be left alone?

How long would the primitives in the socialist paradise last?  Not long, because without anyone working, there's no wealth to redistribute.

Idiots.

I haven't been watching today but my cousin wrote me a text message and she is wondering how the "littlest O'****er got so fat with Michelle being her mom."   Those were her words and not mine.

I saw some of it, but not by choice.  My wife had it on while we were eating lunch.  Because of my schedule today (two b-ball games to run the clock for, and cantor practice in a few minutes) my wife and I had our big meal at lunch, rather than dinner.  (The Heiress is coming down with something, so she didn't eat much at all.)

Not I - I've been housecleaning, making changes to a clients website, and waiting for the dishwasher installation people to finish up and leave.

The only thing he left out was collective farms and land seizures to form them, from the sound of it.  I guess that'll be in the State of the Union speech.

Did anybody happen to notice if the Mall got all trashed and littered like it did last time?

 :whatever:

When he gets his way on inheritance taxes, it'll be easy to collectivize the farms. He wants to drop the family farm exemption from 5 million to one million. Family will have to sell a lot of land and equipment just to pay the taxes. Big cooperatives will buy up the land/farms until there is only a few big farming companies, then it'll be easy for the government to step in and take over the farming/food production.....Hey, do you want to try to take the farms away from a bunch of farmers or a handful of corporations?

No  I have been watching the Star Trek Movie Marathon on Scy Fy or whatever it's called now. Better to wacth someone take action then to watch someone sit in an office chair and cause the destruction of our country before anything close to the United Federation Of Planets gets started.

Exactly!!!! It should hurt to be poor so you don't want to be. Way things are now there is no financial reason to get off welfare. There is actually an incentive to stay on it.

Pisses me off is what it does Karin.   :cheersmate: :cheersmate: :cheersmate:

I went to my cardiologist today, unfortunately the tv was on but fortunately I was the only one there and didn't have to wait long. I took my blood pressure medicine before I went so the one minute I sat in waiting room was not too bad.

I just can't stand to see or listen to the marxist. When ever I do hear him, by accident, I hear him say he wants more of my money.......damn commie.

That's what made me cringe whenever George Bush opened his mouth... you knew it was going to cost money.  Not only will this assclown's plans cost four times as much, he doesn't even bother to go through Congress to get what he wants.  He just has one of his departments issue an edict (or he does it himself).
