Just saying

He also raised taxes so I can't figure out why you DUmmies hate him so much.

4. Bill Clinton AND George H.W. Bush both have issued executive orders regarding gun control

-snip-

There's ample precedent. After a mass school shooting in Stockton, California, in 1989, George H.W. Bush issued an executive order, pursuant to the 1968 Gun Control Act, that banned imports of certain assault weapons unless used for sporting purposes. Years later, Bill Clinton by executive order banned imports of almost five dozen different assault weapons that had been modified to get through that "sporting purposes" exemption. President Obama could go even further.

Just because past presidents did it doesn't make it right.

Personally I don't recall any of those incidents happening but I was a low information voter back then it wasn't until the late 90s when I really started paying attention. If I had been paying attention back then I would not have supported any of that.

0bama has taken enough rights from us, we took it when he shoved 0bamcare down our throats and then raised our taxes, we will not allow him to take away the second amendment from us. We have had enough.

I had someone try and say that about GHWB on Facebook.   It was a lie.  GHWB did not issue an Executive Order banning imported assault rifles.  The BATF banned them through bureaucratic legalese by reclassifying them.

Big surprise that the DUmmies lied.  :whatever:

If the DUmmies couldn't lie, they'd have nothing to say.

Neither would 90% of elected officials.  :-)

My AK and FN-FAL were ones that got reclassified. They didn't fit the "sporting" category.

My AK is a Norinco and My FAL is a Springfield. Both had the thumbhole stock. I sent my FAL out to a place in AZ and it converted to a 922r compliant weapon. My AK, I just added a Chote Dragonov style stock.

My oldest son had one of those thumbhole abortions on an otherwise-nice Century inch-pattern (Canuckian) FAL, I converted it for him a couple of years ago for a Christmas present.  Took awhile to run down enough inch-pattern US-made parts to do it, especially without relying on magazine parts in the count, but I eventually did.  Couldn't count the receiver itself since it was made in Canada.

That whole "sporting clause" has to be in the top ten DUmbest laws of all time.

If Bush did that in 1990 why did Clinton and the Dems pass the AWB in 1994?

Snug,
I reviewed ALL of Bush's EO from 1990 and can find nothing that appears to be a ban on Assault Rifles, imported or otherwise.

Because it was in 89. It was importation.

It was a rhetorical question.

If Bush banned X then X would cease to be an issue.

If Clinton instituted a ban after Bush's presumed EO ban than it was because the presumed Bush ban was iinconsequential.

If it was inconsequential then citing it as a case of "You did it too, so stop yelling at the black guy!" fails on it's own terms.

Could not find it in '89 either, I did not read every single EO, but the titles.

Aside from the whole 'wrong about the way it happened thing,' the difference is that the import AW weapon thing applied only to guns made outside the US, the AWB applied to domestically-made stuff as well.  The import ban created some US jobs, really, because then it made sense to make AK and FAL receivers in the US, also some HK clonage.

If I may repeat my answer to 17 Oaks without sounding crabby:

No, not at all, I was just confirming the fact that Bush never did a EO.  What prompted me was doing a google search.  Do one on GHWB and you will find a LOT believe the he did in fact EO a ban...in fact even a lot of media reported it.  This is the basis for propaganda, a lie is told and then others repeat till it becomes the truth.  Since I could not remember a EO by him and most likely I would have read about it, but I just thought it was worth my effort to go to the .gov and see if in fact he did...no more, no less.  Granted I did not read every word, but the title would have had something in it that would have prompted me to pull the EO and do so, I found nothing that indicated such...

You need a little work on the whole 'Rhetorical question' thing, Snugs.  The two things you tried to juxtapose weren't really a good match on the subject they covered.

No EO by a technically.

It was never an executive order - but a 'directed' reconsideration of existing regulations by the ATF in response to the elder Bush's instructions.
