PayPal Apologizes For Freezing Science Fiction Writer Jay Lake’s Cancer Fundraiser, Promises Greater Transparency
Earlier this afternoon, I started seeing a bunch of tweets from science fiction writers and fans about what looked a big screw up at PayPal. Author Jay Lake has been fighting cancer since 2008, and to raise money for a new treatment (whole genome sequencing), he pulled together a number of big-name writers to perform “acts of whimsy†when different funding levels are reached. (For example, fantasy author Neil Gaiman offered to cover a Magnetic Fields song on the ukulele if fans donated $20,000.) Within 24 hours, the campaign seemed like a big success, shooting way past the $20,000 goal.

I'm sorry, but you do not yet have clearance to know franksolich's 'other' activities. But fixing that is easy ! Just shoot an Email off to your local VRWC coordinator, and it can get sorted out by 5pm Monday ( the personnel office closes at 1pm on Saturday, sorry. ).

I have been watching this funny girl on youtube or over a year. She does a weekly "show" called "My Drunk Kitchen". She started a fundraiser a little over a week ago on indiegogo so she can take her show on the road and has already trippled her original goal of $50k in 30 days (she still has over 20 days to go and has collected over $150k). She drinks while she makes some type of food. By the end of it she is drunk. It is edited so they aren't very long. I donated to her the first day, she has entertained me for over a year for free. I think I got the better end of the deal. She makes me smile.
Her plan was to travel to cities across the country doing kind of a travel show and taping "My Drunk Kitchen" in each town in someone's kitchen who has donated. She also is planning on doing a little sight seeing show as well to show people the sights of smaller towns. Since she has surpassed her goal she can now go to Canada and the UK as well as more cities around the US.
I really like her, she is cute and funny. As a side note, she is gay. Please don't go to her youtube channel and say anything negative. I feel like I'm putting her out there by posting about her in a public forum (this goes mainly to lurkers as I'm fairly positive no one here would do that). It would really piss me off. If you have issues with the fact she is gay, don't watch her videos. Her show isn't about her being gay, it's lighthearted fun. The only reason I know is she has done a couple of videos talking about it (totally separate from "My Drunk Kitchen"). She isn't a militant DUer type, she is a just a sweet funny girl.
