Couple to be fined $500 a day for having a garden
For Jason and Jennifer Helvenston of Orlando, Fla., having a garden on their property could turn out to be a costly amenity. The city is planning on fining the couple $500 a day for the 25-by-25-foot garden in their front yard if they don't get rid of it. Why? Because apparently it doesn't comply with the city's codes, which require a garden to have a "finished appearance."

2. Looks 'finished' to me.
Unless by 'finished' they mean shrubs pruned into perfect spheres and pyramids.

12. This is a testament to just how ****ed up our system is
because republicans think this shit is crazy, too. It is recognized, by both parties, that this is nuts, yet, it is happening.

A lot of bitching about what the town is doing but not one complaint that the government has too much power, is too invasive or has no objective standard.
IOW: they're OK with the exact conditions that lead to this horseshit in the first place. They're content to be slaves, having every facet of their lives micromanaged.
That's why they're perfectly willing to force it on you as well.

Ya, right. It has a hap-hazard appearance better suited for the backyard.
Had they planned and planted to get a more symetrical look, it might have been ok.

No, DUmbass. It's the government. Over-bearing government that you DUmpmonkeys love.
Didn't you read the article?

DUmmies, this is the result of allowing the government the invasive control that you are so fond of. Of course they should be able to do what ever they want with their personal property, but you have been so supportive of laws encouraging government intrusion into our lives that this is what has happened.

There's nothing wrong with that garden. Me, I prefer more flowers, but it's their property.

29. These code enforcement people are also very narrow minded and cannot see outside the "rule." I never met anyone so backwards, shortsighted, and narrow minded as the code enforcement people in my town and I live in a solidly Democratic town. Sickening, yes?

22. it's a lovely garden.
seems as if someone has been carried away by the headiness of power or something. the power of hatefulness for its own sake perhaps.
Sense a trend?

62. WTH? It's friggin adorable!
It looks like an elf garden/house. Not my style (I'm a city girl by heart), but I'd definitely love to visit!
They look like liberals. I think that's the real issue.
:thatsright: Oh for God's sake.

Libera;s are the ones that make so many laws that liberals hate.

That kind of irony is painful.

Prepare for the world you wish for DUmbasses.
All the evidence is there, all the warnings sounded yet you think it will be just as your fantasy dreams of.
One small consolation I have is that while I forge through whatever disaster there is,I will see you suffer in misery when the reality of things falls. :bird:

The neighbors across the street bitched so code enforcement came out. The house is 2 or 3 down the street from I-4. I guess this something they can whine about that will make them feel better.

I am so confused - ok, more so than usual.
I have heard that the Military Industrial Complex controls us.
Wall Street controls us.
The Patriarchy controls us.
The Police State controls us.
The Jews control us.
Now it's the real estate industry?
Who's running who? :lost:

I'm with the city on this one.
Protecting our property values and quality of life from deadbeats who want their property to look like a jungle or a junkyard is one of the legitimate roles of a local government.
If you're out in the boonies it's one thing. If you're cheek-by-jowl with neighbors it's another.
This one looks like a neighborhood of Pam Dawsonesque mansions.

Frankly, if I were in a residential area, and I had to see it, I'd be pissed too.
But pissed enough to call the cops? Nope.

I guess I have a different baseline. Strange old bird up here a little north, decorates his yard with toilet and toilet seat "art." :lmao:

I would LOVE to see that yard replacing the one in my neighborhood with all of the cement sculptures littering it.

POTSDAM, N.Y. -- A North Country man's artwork might be flushed for violating a village code. The artwork features several toilets and urinals in a Potsdam yard, and the village says it's considered bulky waste.
The property's owner rents out apartments in Potsdam and when he replaced the toilets, he found a creative way to recycle them.
"I came up with the idea of art, you know, it's different," said Fred Robar, the property owner.

Clarkson University territory. I, as a classmate of FNC's Martha MacCallum, can say that.
