Last night I sat my teenage sons down and showed them a picture of this: [View all]
I then let them watch this video:
I then had a long talk with the two of them (15 and 19) on what being a Man with dignity and courage is all about. I told them that a Man with dignity and courage would not succumb to peer pressure and allow the humiliating degradation of another human being to occur the way it occurred to that poor 16 year old girl.
We talked about how multiple people witnessed what happened to this young girl and failed to do anything about it. We discussed peer pressure as one of the reasons for the lack of witnesses in the case.
I told them that a real Man with dignity and courage wouldn't give two shits about peer pressure and would care only for the human being that was carted around for a rape toy.
I made it clear to them that those who step forward to try and stop it or report it are the real hero's and those who do not will have to carry that shame with them the rest of their lives.
I've had these type of talks with my kids before but never with the visual's shown above.
This resonated with them in a powerful way and it is my hope that parents throughout this crazy Country of ours take the time and do the same.
I couldn't sleep last night---I literally rolled around in bed from midnight until 5am, thinking about the poor girl in the picture above, thinking about her parents, and thinking about the massive scars that will stay with her the rest of her life.
Justice---one can hope.

God, I hope it worked, trumad - the first thing I thoughtt when I saw the Steubenville story was, "my God, FINALLY an object lesson in criminal sexual assault that might convince trumad's sons not to rape women." (http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=2129051)
I hope all of CC will join me in praying to whichever deity you are most comfortable that trumad's sons will FINALLY see that rape is wrong. Thousands, if not millions, of girls' well-being depend on it.
(I mean, who the **** sits their sons down and tells them NOT to rape someone?)

I stick by the principle of "Don't force your way into someone else's life."
That pretty much covers sexual assualt, regular assault, robbery, etc.
Of course it also instills tolerance, guards against bigotry and creates an aversion to seeking welfare.
Which is why liberals hate conservative values.

Never felt that I needed to tell my sons to be stand up men...because I know they are...but I did warn them about vindictive women and underage girls lying about their age.

trumad has some major issues. He's been on a rampage ever since he was booted from the Men's Forum. Even his sig line says something like "Kicked out of the little boy's club for being a Man."
Problem is, trumad isn't a man. He may be a male, but a man? No, he's not. Face-to-face he would cower in a second like libs do.
I have a son who's 20, and he wouldn't dream of raping a woman. My wife and I raised him to respect God, himself, and others. That trumad has to still explain to his sons (15 and 19) that rape is wrong tells me everything I need to know about trumad the male. That he has to use a video and pic to assist in explaining it says even more. Do I need to show my son a video of someone having gasoline poured on them and then set on fire to let him know that doing that is wrong? No, I have a mind and so does my son, something the trumad primitive and his spawn are severly lacking. You see, my son has known right and wrong for many years now, while trumad's sons are still having to be reminded. That's because my son's father is a man, and trumad's sons father isn't. Chances are trumad's old man was a wimp, too.

When I read this, I thought, "Good Lord, what kind of father has this Jim-Bakker-lookalike been, that he has to explain things to his kids?"
I never once had a discussion with my own father about how to treat women, even though I was about as red-blooded and hot-blooded of a teenaged male as one could be.
Not once. Never had to.
It just seemed a natural and instinctive "given" that one treat women with decency and respect.

Actually he has probably sponsored the emasculation by supporting women's lib. The emasculation of young males has been on going for years and could well be part of the problem causing our anti-social, mal-adjusted, lone wolf shooters.

Agree. For once I actually think this dummie did something that makes sense and he didn't try to blame some political side to make his point.
As to why he did it; doesn't mean his boys don't already know but some parents belabor things. The fact that he sat up in bed for hours speaks to the fact that the talk was probably overkill he's a bit if a helicopter parent ie his boys probably already knew this. He probably doesn't trust his own parenting. Most helicopters don't.
