Happy New Year.... You Have Been Laid Off
Just got a call from the HR idiot at a company that I have been at since last May.
Love the way they tell you. They tell you stuff you already know about why they are cutting you lose.
Had I been given a disclosure statement about the company's finances when I interviewed I would not have spent the 2K to relocate 200 miles or signed a 1 year lease on a pad.
The company has not been on time with payroll since October, they have had several property's repossessed, like Mitt Romney would not pay for traveling employees hotel stays when they were on the road because the credit card declined at check out.
Two months ago they hired three people who lived more than 1500 mile away and three days after their start they were let go.
Tonight I am considering my options. I am, hoping that Oregon Worksource has retraining programs for dislocated workers as I think it is time to change direction. I will be making phone calls tomorrow.

Let me be one of the first to say **** you rsmith - my guess is that HR finally realized what a worthless tool you are and decided to give you the old heave-ho. The only downside to your new status is that we will be subsidizing you 100% for a while. I'm sure there's more to the story; probably a TwixVoy situation where you showed up drunk or high too many times. Or maybe they read the cover letter you wrote for your wife.
In any case, own it, DUmbass. How's it feel, knowing 0bama spent more getting to his vacation in Hawaii than you will ever see in your entire life?

"A one year lease on a pad" . . . ::) this guy is so underappreciated IMO - not everybody can write a cover letter like that. Oregon"s UI is much lower than he's used to but he can spend his spare time at auto repair shop lobbies bitching about FOX News some more.

Thank goodness the pad lease only has five or six months to go.
Surely rsmithnumbers has six months living expenses in his brokerage account.
Has an apartment ever been called a "pad" outside of a Playboy article or this rsmithnumbers post?

I believe he got let go, I don't believe he was laid off though. Probably what really happened is he did his job poorly and/or came up hot on a random piss test.

Yes! That will remedy the situation. I can't tell you the number of times I've had a burned-out light bulb or a clogged drain and sent "positive thoughts" to it. It was amazing! I woke up the next morning and the problem was gone! Hurrah!
I sent positive thoughts to the clutch on my Toyota Camry. That, and $90 to the garage down the street, and the hydraulic system has been cleaned and bled properly. It's a miracle!

Why would corporations want to potentially run their businesses down the toilet just because they are unhappy with the President and his policys... he said cause his policys are killing their ability to make large profits so they cannot hire new help. I said its funny you mention profits, most corps have boasted of the highest profit earnings in the past 3 years. I said you know if I could get hard evidence of a corp that is playing this kind of game I will stop trading with them. I said they are killing themselves if you take into account that for everyone they hire generates on average 3 jobs in the community-s and it multiply's from there. They are the ones who have bad policys.
I had to get back to my desk so I closed with "ALSO if I found out our CEO/President/Owner was playing this game I would resign immediately,

Hey dumbass. It's not hard to look into a companies finances FOR YOURSELF. I know many people, especially where relocation is involved, who do so. Also, one wonders if this company had not sunk to this point because of the person you put in office. Just desserts for you; not so much for the other likely people getting laid off who voted for the the other guy.
Again I ask who doesn't check this shit out when that much is at stake or is that my finance experience talking and I'm expecting too much from the average dumbass? I thought even without experience most people would at least do a cost benefit analysis if just in their damn head with a little additional digging

Tucker he's probably including his deposit in his place and any utility deposits in that 2 k I would bet. I just moved in the summer and the actual move ie truck, gad, food and drink for friends helping was probably around 300 total. Even if I had moved the distance he is and added more gas it would have been under 500. Either that it he paid a mover.

Seems to me your true colors would have shone through in the interview. Oregon's "job re-training" is not going to help you.

I don't think RSmith does drugs, I don't think it's a piss test issue. He's a grandfather of advanced years. He's just an asshole, resentful of any for-profit enterprise and nasty in every way. I wouldn't put sabotage past him. Would you want him on your staff or as a co-worker? Nothing but trouble.

I don't think he has either the motivation or the will to do something that requires more effort than holding his hand out and saying "gimme". He should be ecstatic, he can now hang out at his "pad" and live the DUmmie dream of obinga taking care of him.

Do I have a possible Discrimanation Claim Against My Employer
...I have been a TEMP employee for a fortune 100 for the past 10 months. I was hired with a promise that sometime as soon as the economy improved that they would convert myself and other older TEMPS into permanent staff. This is an aviation related position and I took the position not only because it would finally end a weekly commute that I was doing coast to coast but also the pay was almost doubled.
Well in the middle of January my supervisor came up to me and said that the department HR had just given approval for the conversion and the only step we had to complete was filling out new employement applications,benefits paperwork and a new w-9 and direct deposit and accept the offer letter that would be in our emails within the coming week...my weekend started the next day and I returned back to work to find a welcome aboard letter from the Division Manager and VP of the Operations and one of the emails stated that the DM would be up the next week to sign off on it and bring us over.
Well the next week the DM found herself out of town and the supervisor all the sudden went stone quiet, the sad part you are not allowed to inquire as to the staus during this period so I just sat on my hands..a week later the supervisor came up to me and said that the position-s were froze followed up two hours later with never mind....two more weeks go by and the supervisor advises us that the position-s were going to be posted on the net both internal and external because we service federal government agency's so I waited another week and then it was posted for a period of seven days..I had my application completed and submitted that very night.....and waited another 10 days...
Well I come in one morning logged into my PC load my programs and check my email...WAAAHLAH there was an email saying interviews for me and the other two in the pool would take place early in the shift.. I interviewed and knew I nailed the answers to the question with critical thought and honesty and was told I did fantastic and that they would get back with us on the next step early the next week well that turned in to 10 days.....Last Friday I found out from the coordinator of the TEMPS called me to imform me that they did a post interview department evaluation something not disclosed to me or the other two and it seems two team members told the department supervisor that I did not pay attention to what was going on and I often duplicated outbound phone calls to our customers that come in via email and from air to ground aircrafts messaging system...the office is large and the seating is configured so we are back to back and there is twenty feet between us.....I had to tell the coordinator that the duplication was due to the FACT I am 25% deaf in the midtone range of my hearing and I am a borderline hearing aid candidate...this was diagnosed two months ago...I told her that with all the other noise sometimes it is hard to hear others...
Yesterday I got a call telling me that I was not selected and they basically secretly interviewed the next employee on the seniority tree and chose him..he also is half my age and has a Dad who is a local TV CELEB not that has anything to do with it...The supervisor said they would have a meeting with me tomorrow to debrief me and I was told there would be another opportunity this month to reapply.
I am very disappointed and depressed tonight... I can not believe they would make a decision without at least an opportunity to give some form of explanation from me...basically if I am not put on by mid April they will not renew my TEMP contract and I am looking at it this way..why would one month make a difference?.I also feel betrayed and played with all the games that were played,they were not completely honest about the process....and how is it that I am going to change my hearing issue with hearing aids costing $5000 a set and insurance wont cover it and it is a heredity issue in our family.......
My only saving gracing for myself is I am always looking for other ops and I have my family to lean on... So do I have something potential here???..What would you do???

14 Month of Being Unemployed is About To End.

I got a call from a company this morning I interviewed with two weeks ago and they said Your Hired.
The pay is better than my unemployment benefits and figuring in the local economy the pay will be very close to my last job. They have already tapped me for a promotion in a few months which will then exceed what my last job paid.
I will have to relocate. The only disappointment is, is that I will have to give up my delegate status to the state democratic convention and positions on a local campaign and my community activism group. I hope I can find my way in to local politics at my new home.
Time to buy some new shirts and pants.
