wowsers. this emphatically refutes the 'need a gun to stop a bad guy' thing. how did i miss this?!?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2153505/Ian-Lee-Stawicki-Seattle-gun-massacre-hero-reveals-vowed-hide-table-brother-died-9-11.html
that should read "hero reveals he vowed to NEVER hide under a table after his brother died"
'I just threw the frigging stool at him, legs first,' he told police. 'My brother died in the World Trade Center. I promised myself, if something like this ever happened, I would never hide under a table.
***
Police said more people could have been injured or even killed at the cafe were it not for the actions of Adams.
'The hero picked up a stool and threw it at the suspect. Hit him. Picked up another stool, as the suspect is shooting and now pointing (a gun) at him and hits him with another stool,' Assistant Chief Jim Pugel said.
holy freakin' moly.
no comment, mind BLOWN!!!
Careful DUmmie - don't need to see a ban on assault stools. :whatever:

Relax, Inspector (D)Ullard. If said hero had a .45, no stools would have be sacrificed. But, it's your story and you tell it any which way you like.

If he could:
a. Find 45 ACP rounds
b. Afford them

Obviously, throwing a stool at someone that's shooting at you is far safer and more compassionate than just taking the guy out with a couple well-placed shots.
:sarcasm: (in case it's needed.) :mental:

I was recently asked what I thought of the surge in gun purchases. Echoing the blog of a Mr. Bob Owens I said the nation is preparing for war. Personally, I don’t think it will be an all-out shooting war such as seen in the 1860s but the fact of the matter is, the American people no longer trust the government to represent their interests. And they are correct to do just that.
Every facet of American life is being regulated, controlled, constrained and strangled. They will tell you what size sodas you’re allowed to have, how much salt you should be allowed and now your doctor has to interrogate you on guns in the house by force of law. If you want out of the broken government Social Security system to save for your own retirement you are told you are stealing from those who entered the system before you. If you want to educate your child at home or a different school because the union monopoly on public education is an abject failure you hate children. If you want to opt-out of the socialized healthcare system you want people to die. If you oppose fiscally suicidal budgets you’re a racist. If you’re a Catholic who wants to refrain from a practice that runs counter to your faith -- and such abstention harms absolutely no one -- you will still be dragged to court where you will face ruinous fines and then imprisonment if you resist further.
The radio station you listen to is deemed hate speech. The church you attend is narrow-minded. Your paycheck caused that poverty. Your campaign poster caused a rampage shooting. You’re greedy, racist, misogynist, xenophobic, war-mongering imperialists. There is no more disagreement there is only vilification. It isn’t enough to plead your case, count the votes and then try again next election if you lose. You are to be legislated out of existence. And those watching the debate are encouraged to actively hate you.
The government doesn’t just fail to represent you and encourage other citizens to hate you; it actively sides with those who would do you harm. They claim to want to control gun violence but they refuse to properly incarcerate the career criminals who commit 4/5 of gun violence. Manifest schizophrenics are left untreated and free to roam. Jihadists can give Power Point presentations on the virtue of killing infidels inside a US government facility and any who may feel alarmed are conditioned to remain silent lest they be branded Islamophobes. To demand immigrants obey the law as a condition of their residency is deemed racist. There is more concern about whether our weapons of war are too harsh on our enemies rather than the safety of our children and spouses sent by the government to fight them. Yet, any who call for the government to heed the Constitution are deemed by the government to be potential anti-government terrorists. The violent felons, illegal immigrants, psychiatrically dangerous, jihadists – these have more consideration from the government and halls of power than people who want to provide for themselves on their own resourcefulness.
And why?
Because some recognize that unchecked government leads to economic ruin at best, tyranny at worst. But the bad actors refuse to heed the warnings. Whether the bad actors have malicious intent or are naïve enough to believe their own propaganda the result will be the same. We will have economic ruin and a brush with tyranny. It has to happen. It cannot be avoided. It is as certain as a chemical reaction and it is proven time and again by human history.
So, when the government ceases to represent us, treats us as any enemy merely for wanting to live our lives we grow mistrustful and seek security. And as the government is destined to lead us to ruin where civil order will erode -- if not outright collapse -- we must protect ourselves when the government cannot. And as there is a strong likelihood that the government may seek to throw off its constitutional restraints we must also protect ourselves from that which should protect us per its constitutional charter.
That is why we are buying guns. We will not stop buying them and to try and take them from us would be foolish in the extreme.
Only a fool would fail to recognize this truth and only an enemy would complain about speaking it.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/man-attempts-to-open-fire-on-crowd-at-movie-theater-armed-off-duty-sheriffs-deputy-drops-him-with-one-bullet/
Update: WOAI now reports it was an off-duty sergeant who fired a total of four shots, wounding the shooter. An Initial report by 1200 WOAI news said that an off-duty sheriff’s deputy shot the suspect one time.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says the off-duty sergeant, who was working security, heard the gunshots and came running. She saw the gunman coming out of the men’s restroom. The Sheriff’s Office says the gunman did not shoot at her, but his gun was drawn so she opened fire.

http://www.ijreview.com/2013/01/27668-viral-letter-marine-tells-would-be-gun-grabber-diane-feinstein-no-maam/
Senator Dianne Feinstein,
I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime.
You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.
I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.
I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.
I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.
We, the people, deserve better than you.
Respectfully Submitted,
Joshua Boston

Joe,
Congratulations on your appointment to lead a presidential commission to end gun-related violence.
As a National Rifle Association board member, husband, father, grandfather, law enforcement officer and genuinely concerned American, I too want nothing more than to see evil, senseless massacres stopped. I concur with the president and caring people everywhere: It’s time to end these slaughters.
As you gather your team to study massacres and how to stop them, I offer to you my services and a lifetime of expertise on guns in all their implementations. While I strongly differ with President Obama on many issues, I agree with him that we must work with all we can possibly muster to end these tragedies.
As you begin to formulate your thoughts on how to proceed with your task, I hope your starting point is to provide the president with the facts regarding these slaughters and to offer him common-sense recommendations that are void of a political agenda and will actually make a meaningful difference. If the American people smell a political agenda here, that will only bog down our efforts.
In the spirit of goodwill and a deep desire to end gut-wrenching, incredibly sad and senseless rampages, I offer you the following recommendations:
I encourage you to persuade the president to lead this effort by providing a number of public service announcements. The announcements should include watching out for each other, encouraging parents to be more involved in their children’s lives regarding entertainment choices, and knowing various indicators we should watch for in people who are unstable.
Clearly, the focus on solving these mass murders must be on the mentally ill. In almost every instance of mass killing, there were ample red flags and warning alarms that either were avoided or were not acted upon by mental health professionals, family members, friends and acquaintances. While I deeply respect an individual’s privacy and civil liberties, the American people need basic awareness of what indicators to look for regarding potentially violent, psychotic people. Our collective safety begins with being collectively vigilant.
You will find in your assessment that all of the massacres have occurred in gun-free zones. What gun-free zones create is an environment where good people are unarmed and virtually defenseless against an unstable person intent on committing mass murder. Gun-free zones are modern killing fields. I implore you to recommend that Congress pass a law to ban gun-free zones immediately.
Just like your full-time, armed security detail, qualified citizens with authorized, legal concealed-carry permits should be able to carry weapons virtually everywhere to protect themselves, their loved ones and innocents.
I also implore you to strongly consider recommending that trained school officials have access to weapons to protect students. Just as airline pilots may have access to a weapon to prevent another Sept. 11 mass murder, school officials also should be trained to stop shooting sprees at our schools.
I don’t encourage you to recommend a ban on any weapon, magazine capacity or type of ammunition. That won’t accomplish anything other than prevent the 99.9 percent of responsible, law-abiding Americans from enjoying these modern weapons as we do now. We should never recommend or develop public policy that restricts the rights of the good guys based upon what evil people do or might do. If that were the case, alcohol still would be banned. As you may know, drunk drivers kill an estimated 12,000 Americans each year and hurt tens of thousands more.
I encourage you also to keep this misnamed “gun violence†in perspective. While all deaths are tragic, the vast majority of gun-related murders and violence are committed by gang members who do not use guns that look like — but do not perform like — military assault weapons. The majority of crimes that involve a firearm are committed with handguns. I concurred with you back in 2008 when you stated, “If [Mr. Obama] tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem.†I trust you still maintain those sentiments.
Again, I offer you my services and a lifetime of expertise. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Ted Nugent
