I Am Ecstatic That This Deal Got Done because I am unemployed.
I just qualified for the 2nd round of Fed extended benefits and was in danger of losing them.
If we had gone over the cliff and tax rates had gone up on middle class people, it might have cost the average family an extra $2000 a year in taxes. Those are taxes that they'd subtract from their yearly gross wages.
If we had gone over the cliff and unemployment benefits had not been extended, I would have been losing $1800 A MONTH, with no paycheck to fall back on, and no other income from which to subtract that additional $2000 in yearly taxes.
So, yeah, I am ecstatic that this deal got done.

It's lazy sloths like this primitive that made America great.

I would have gladly let my taxes go up if it would have meant this worthless piece of shit would starve to death! :argh:
This DUmmie is proof positive some people are alive simply because it is illegal to kill them! :hammer:
-
Just more proof that these idiots think of no one but themselves.
Why would he have to worry about paying $2,000 more in taxes per year if he's not working?
-
$1800 a month in unemployment?
-
Damn 1800 a month for sitting on your ass? I have worked my ass off for less that that before.

2. Thanks for the positive thoughts.
Hopefully, some kind of job will materialize this year, even though the past two years it's been nada.
I keep slugging away, sending resumes and networking, but few interviews these days and no offers.
I'd mention that last month, three potential employers informed me that they were suspending their searches for positions I had applied to, mothballing said searches until further notice. I have to think that part of that was due to the looming fiscal cliff - employers get cold feet when they don't know what's happening with taxes and the economy.
Now that the deal has been done, I'm hoping employers will feel confident enough to start hiring again. [Don't get your hopes up too much, a three-year resume gap with no explanation is like Kryptonite]--K
BTW - I see plenty of views of my OP, but few comments. I'm guessing that many DUers are taking a look at the OP, ready to blast me for the post, but then pulling back when they confront the reality of my situation, a situation some 2-million Americans were facing just a day ago.
Endless, generous unemployment is ruining this country. It's made people infantile, lazy, and entitlement-minded. It's rotting us from the inside out.

First job paid $54.45 a week for 48 hours......of course that was a few years ago.

I thought you couldn't collect money like that? I remember one time I had to go on unemployment they max was like 225 a week. That was what anyone, high earner or low earner could make.

I have never been on UE so I honestly don't know how it works. I had thought it was based on what your prior income was.
Then again Frank's first law of primitives states that primitives always lie.

Translation: "I sure as Hell am not going out of my way to find a damn job on my own while the bennies last, but if one falls in my lap that actually pays more than the UE, I guess I'll have to take it."

That is what I was told. I went in there and I made pretty good money. They told me how much money I would get weekly and I was like :wtf2:
I knew I couldn't live off of 225 a week so I went out and got 2 jobs. There is no incentive for American's now to work. Why work when you can just stay on unemployment?

unless its spouse or SO was unemployed also.

It depends on the state...this article is a couple years old.

In Massachusetts, the maximum weekly rate for unemployment benefits is more than twice New York’s at $943 a week, while Connecticut’s maximum is $615 a week and New Jersey’s is $600. Even the tiny state of Maine has a higher maximum weekly rate than New York’s at $534.

Want a job, network, simple as one is not working what do you do with your time. ??
Suprising the people you will meet doing volunteer work at soup kitchens and for the poorer Churches in the area.
No problem being on unemployment, take that slack time to get out into the comunity and attend town meetings and volunteer at senior centers and nursing homes. Never know who you will meet that finds value in you.
Don't bitch or complain, just take fluffy to visit the oldtimers or the kids in the hospital. Never know when a job offer from family or business will come about.
So you may get only $20.00 an hour driving Aunt Nelly to the doctors, but when you get a recommend that driving job may come up to 5-6 customers every two days. Before you know it you can hire others to do the same and start your own business.
Two or three years of unemployment, All that time that you collect money and never give a thought to volunteer work to repay society to keep you in toilet paper.

A lot of things have changed since Truman left office.
-
I only collected once.. years ago. It wasn't much and I found a job right away.
There is no incentive for people to work if they can live off the government.
We make it too easy for them to become lazy.

At least prostitutes provide a service...

Like hell it was.....LBJ had just declared war on poverty.......and I did too by saying, "I quit, I'm getting a better job".
