Really??? Medical people sometimes make me want to slap them

I have Crohn's Disease. That is why I have all kinds of tests.

This morning, I had a small bowel follow-through to see if I have a fistula or fissure or what ever.

So, I have to drink 4 glasses of barium crap

They do a 2 hour procedure ugg and cause quite a bit of pain

After it is over, the x-ray tech says Barium causes constipation so we are going to give you a laxative...really on a crohn's patient..

I politely declined and BARELY made it home before the barium was out of my body. Jeesh

1. Yeah, most people need the laxative or they end up in surgery with a blocked, necrotic bowel. That doesn't apply to Crohn's patients in active flares, for them we usually made it optional. Most wisely declined. A few wanted the insurance.

There was a method to their madness. Barium turns to stone if you don't get rid of it within a day or two.

3. An illustration once again of why patients have to take responsibility to be their own advocates!

Who knows our conditions better than ourselves?

4. It is amazing

I have Crohn's too. HOW can it be that medical people are so uninformed? How many doctors for how many years told me it was all in my head? What about the one who told me I obviously had gonorrhea? No question...I had to insist on a test. I didn't have that. But he still didn't bother to test for what I did have.

And now they still don't get it. They don't understand that I go all the time. They don't seem to have any idea. It makes you wonder about your care, doesn't it?

I remember my first colonoscopy...I was in hospital at the time. They did 13 - THIRTEEN - enemas the night before. I, personally, think that was cruel and unusual.

5. I understand...

I was in the hospital for diareha (so?) and the nurse came in with this laxative to drink. I hadn't had anything to eat in 24 best and I was still having the runs. I flare out refused that he contacted the specialist who sided with me. I was told after the colonoscpopy that I had a very clear colon.

<<<has a very clear intestine because dines upon fiber and roughage.

It's absurdly easy, what it takes to avoid excited bowels.

Pammy will be thrilled her thread on the disease she is on chemo for is back in the spotlight.  Although I did question her statement in her need turkey recipes thread that she is going to try turkey enchiladas.

That can't be good for her delicate digestive system can it?

Could be why tomatoes were considered a poison way back when.

Actually the people with internal problems seldom come from any where else but the  so called civilizalised country's.

Those that eat hot peppers for some reason have no idea what a stomach ulcer is.  South and Central American Doctors have perhaps one person a year with Gall bladder disease, usually a tourest.

Asia, the hot peppers get the body to produce its own Peptides and few buy Tums.

Diet, all in the diet unless someone is allergic to a food.

I say anything that can make a DUmbasses life as miserable as possible is a good thing. So Pam, if you're reading this, enjoy those enchiladas.  :-)

Back on your shovel you jack booted food Nazi.  :snowblower: (but there is no denying "Mexican food" in New England is pretty bleak but adding more chili peppers does nothing to make a bad dish better)

BTW I ran across an old friend lately who said he had burned out his throat / stomach with too much 'hot' food.  Purely anecdotal I realize but a word to the wise should be sufficient.   He was a hot pepper, nothing bothers me guy BTW.   :fuelfire:  Don't know if he ever had one of these things:  Trinidad Moruga Scorpion (http://www.chilipeppermadness.com/trinidad-moruga-scorpion-chili-pepper.html)
