I have 3 salmon fillets in a marinade. Going to cook them tonight.
Pineapple juice, lemon juice (just a dash), ginger, sesame oil, gochujang (Korean hot pepper/spice paste), and onion slices.
Going to pan-sear it tonight in coconut oil and hazelnut oil, and add some fresh cilantro to it at the last minute.
I'm imitating a recipe I had at a cafe, with the addition of the coconut oil and gochujang (which is one of my new favorites, hot but yum).
Served on top a mixed salad of baby greens, etc, with an Asian ginger sesame dressing.

1. sounds great! we are doing a veggie version of hoppin' john over brown rice.
now that the calendar is flipped, we are going to rededicate ourselves to healthy eating...the Thanksgiving to New Year goodie run has taken a bit of a toll!

2. I was basically really good over the past 6 weeks.
I avoided the vast majority of traps, and I also avoided any social events that involved food.
My two downfalls -- I did succumb and have a couple of Mt. Dews, and the sugar is like crack to me, have a couple and I want more. So, that is out again. And, I also overindulged on a few slices of an asiago cheese bread and my fatal flaw, having a block of Kerrygold Dubliner cheese in the fridge, something I just discovered in November and now crave.
So, today, aside from what I made for lunch for the family, big salad, sirloin tip roast with roasted vegetables, a vegetable appetizer pizza (ranch/cream cheese mix on baked crust with vegetables on top).
I avoided the roast, the gravy, the roasted potatoes, and all but a very small piece of the vegetable pizza. Getting back on track.
I need to go out now and do my other "new thing" for 2013, going to try to jog to the end of my street and back, and not die and NOT let my heartrate go too far over my anaerobic threshold, which is only 155 bpm. Gotta get that up there to a higher level.
HNY, and I saw the thread on Gardening, almost time to start seedlings. Wow. I won't start anything until mid-March.

3. Sounds delicious!
Just curious though. If there is sesame oil in the marinade, why are you pan-searing in both coconut and hazelnut oil. I'm thinking maybe using some oil that won't add any additional flavor seeing you have such a marvelous marinade going on in the first place.
But . . . please let me know the results. I'm always one to try something different and outside the box.

4. I love sweet/hot type combos. And ginger. Lots of stuff going on there. Let us know how it turns out

Vegetarian Hoppin John over brown rice?
The RaleighLiberal's choice in food always makes my stomach turn. Beans and rice for NYE. Jump for joy. It's like she's cooking for the Gulag.
What's with this coconut oil and hazelnut oil for cooking? I think he's making it up. Coconut oil is used in making bad-for-you candy bars, and hazelnut oil, (if you can find it in a pricey specialty store), is probably used as a flavoring in dessert-type items. He's strange.
It's so funny how they try to outdo each other. "I made a standing rib roast for my family, cost me $80, and I didn't have any of it!! I worked 15 hours on this feast, but I just sat quietly and sipped some green tea."
"Well I made Peking Duck, that's a 48 hour process, but I just had some quinoa and brussels sprouts."

Yep they all try to out-pretentious each other while claiming to hate all those rich pretentious types. That behavior is how you know most of their issues with the wealthy are born our of their own jealousy( were that not issue they would not try so desperately to act like what they supposedly despise) Pinkies out!

Oh I just love the Libs, while the Conservative people donate all this money to feed the poor and eat a standard meal for dinner, the Libs are paying how much money for their dinner ??? Standing rib, lobsters and oysters only twice a year. Yes they deserve this feast on our dime, we who work for a living get our ham and turkey twice a year, we have no EBT cards or food stamps you know.
Baby needs a new pair of shoes, Libs get them free, we have to buy them, no one from the Government comes to our door to give us free cell phones, toys for our kids or new clothing. Libs kids get free PCs for their education and interwork access, We make $50.00 too much to get on the gravy train. Our kids have to fight over just one Pc in the house.
Things could change, Hubby could punch someone in the nose at work, get fired and collect 3 years of unemployment. What fun, he cashes in his 401K plan pays off the house and rents it out. We get on a plane and head for a Panamanian Expat area and live on my retirement until he gets old enough to apply for his SS benefits.
People like Dennis make me wonder why we do not go rogue style and throw all morals and consciousness out the window. Go Native in a Native Country and live the high life.

Yes, Vesta, I get your point. Thinking about the fiscal cliff, I've been thinking that at the point the hardworking $50K-ers are being taxed into destitution, and are living on Ramen, rice, and beans; while the big welfare mamas are living it up on T-bones and lobster, is going to be an ugly tipping point for this country. I could see fistfights in grocery stores, especially if ones kids are hungry.
