The privileged daughter of a prominent city doctor, and her boyfriend — a Harvard grad and Occupy Wall Street activist — have been busted for allegedly having a cache of weapons and a bombmaking explosive in their Greenwich Village apartment.
Morgan Gliedman — who is nine-months pregnant — and her baby daddy, Aaron Greene, 31, also had instructions on making bombs, including a stack of papers with a cover sheet titled, “The Terrorist Encyclopedia,’’ sources told The Post yesterday.
People who know Greene say his political views are “extreme,†the sources said.
Cops found the stash in the couple’s West Ninth Street home Saturday when they went there to look for Gliedman, 27, who was wanted for alleged credit-card theft.
A detective discovered a plastic container with seven grams of a white chemical powder called HMTD, which is so powerful, cops evacuated several nearby buildings.

Yeah . . . those 'peaceful' OWS inDUHviduals . . . How long before they claim 'plant' or 'false flag?'

Damn Teabagger...oh, nevermind. Nothing to see here, move along!

From the comment section:
Radical liberals possessing guns and weaponry? Who would of thought? MSM wants the US to believe that gun owners are all blue collar, toothless, overweight, religious southern zealots! How could this couple have such a weapons cache in NYC! Don't they know the gun laws and why don't they follow them! Oh, the humanity! BTW, where is the picture of the baby daddy?
-
Gosh, those bombs sure will be useful once all the guns are confiscated.
Just sayin'.

I guess that they now have to go back to crapping and urinating all over place.

Well, when you're a slug and you're homeless and you're a drug addict/practicing alcoholic and you have no place to go because all the businesses have shuttered their doors to keep you out because you're an animal, the only thing left to do is defecate on a cop car.
Or on the sidewalk where somebody can walk in it.
Don't bother using TP. It runs contrary to the ideals under which OWS were founded.
Stay filthy, my friends.
-
I'm just glad all those state and federal laws kept that nasty stuff out of the hands out of people who would have used it for bad things.../sarc
-
Okay. The couple is trash. Wasting space and resources. Good examples of OWS insanity.
But, I'm most shocked at any reporter using the low class term "baby daddy" in an article. Really? I didn't know that some (hopefully not many) papers had article with gutter slang in them.

The press just isn't what it used to be.

These weren't homeless. They are tough rebels that are rebelling from their rich EVIL parents that paid their way.

True dat. But many of the OWSies were of the take-a-dump-on-the-street types, good for not much at all except spreading dysentery.
-
How interesting. Police bust terrorists, but TSA had nothing to do with this. TSA is more interested in raiding guitar factories than stopping terrorists.

Suffice it to say, that's the kind of thing I expect to see in the East County News.

Liberals should be disarmed if they abuse weapons like they do voting ballots.

Just in case anyone's curious, that's about a quarter-ounce of what's basically Semtex, an explosive whose reputation far, far exceeds its actual power. The attraction of Semtex is that it can be made with commonly-available uncontrolled materials, although the process is reputed to be extremely dangerous. In explosive circles, TNT is the standard by which explosives are compared, and their power is traditionally expressed in TNT equivalents with TNT being "1.0." In those terms Semtex and HMTD come in around 0.6-something.
Of course once the cops found out there was anything at all I'm sure they decided to err on the side of caution and evacuate in case there was a big cache of it hidden and possibly booby-trapped somewhere in the place, which was entirely reasonable of them. There seems to be a bit of journalistic license involved here because that amount of that explosive is not much different than a single old-time black powder buffalo gun cartridge, say one with about 90 grains of charge. Pretty good chance it wouldn't even break a window, unless you set it off pretty close to one.

Yeah, it seems businesses are the real problem under this administration. :hammer:

My understanding is that stuff like this is usedd to set off secondary charges, like a blasting cap sets off dynamite. And 7 grams ain't enough to make more than a few blasting caps.
Would it suck if you were holding in your hand? Yup. Blow up a building? Nope.

Since it's New York, it's not REALLY serious unless someone was selling a 40-oz. Coke.

That was more or less my thought, you could use it to make a couple of caps...but it'd take some other stuff as well, I don't think it'll det by itself from just combustion or spark alone, but I'm not absolutely positive on that. A quarter-ounce isn't enough to use for even a single booster charge, though, so homemade caps is about all that makes any kind of sense for a quantity that small.

Stick some kind of container of the stuff in a 5 gal Tidy Cat kitty litter jug full of <ingredient A, a granular solid> and <ingredient B, a liquid>, a timer and an electrical source?

You'd need a bigger booster than a quarter ounce, plus a cap in the booster, to set off the stuff you're talking about. It's notoriously insensitive.

That shows how little I know about improvised explosives. Maybe not that "utility truck" parked across the street can leave!
