For those actually interested in what the Maya
Elders are doing tonight...
No, not preparing for the end of the world. I leave that for Western folks new age types.
Nope.
They are offering sacrifice mostly of smoke and not incense, but it would work as to the smell.. As well as prayers,.to the four cardinal points as well as having some ritual meals.
They are setting themselves for the end of the old world and the Birth of the next one...
But the end of the world? Not so much.
They are deeply spiritual people connected to the land, in ways that most of us can barely imagine. Oh and they are probably laughing at all these ladinos using the Aztec sun stone...that is if they are even aware of it.

3. Tonight is a deeply spiritual night
And if I could I would not mind being in a pueblo sharing with them.
And I am all but religious.
Fri Dec 21, 2012, 01:40 AMI believe for the democrat Mayans that would be "vibes and offerings".

7. You welcome
I was honored when I was invited, as a ladino, to be part of the renewal and cleansing ceremonies that some of the Maya living in Tijuana carried out one year. I know tonight is as intense as any spiritual night can be.

Ladino, also known as Judaeo-Spanish, a Sephardic language, primarily spoken among Sephardic Jews, or for the written form used in religious texts and translations.Hmmm.

Pueblos are modern and ancient communities of Native Americans in the Southwestern United States of America. The first Spanish explorers of the Southwest used this term to describe the communities housed in apartment-like structures built of stone, adobe mud, and other local material. These structures were usually multi-storeyed buildings surrounding an open plaza. They were occupied by hundreds to thousands of Pueblo people.

I doubt the Mayans would travel to Tijuana to visit with nadin or to some pueblos in the southwestern US.Hey, a Mayan enjoys a good donkey show as much as any other guy.

As I've said in a previous post, I make no claims about being an expert on the Maya, but I'm beginning to wonder if I may know more about them than nadin.
According to a conversation that I had a while back with an actual Mayan who was also an amateur historian and archaeologist and who was the grandson of a traditional Mayan healer, the major religious ceremonies are still carried out at or near the historical sites such as the pyramids/temples and cenotes. I would think that the end of the old calender would merit a major religious ceremony. I doubt the Mayans would travel to Tijuana to visit with nadin or to some pueblos in the southwestern US.
The Mayan calendar didn't have a leap year so the end of the world would already have happened (haven't calculated it myself but figure it was probably around January 2008).
